We have tried quite a few, but only for chicken eggs. The nurture right 360 has the best hatch rates by a mile and it’s more reliable than others. We just filled 2 of our 360s with our first quail eggs and one of our knock off china incubators as well. Hoping for a good hatch.

I just hatched two "Covid" and "Corona". I was cheap so I took a beer cooler and a cigar humidor temp/humidity gauge, and my old brinsea eco 20 brooder panel and just made a incubator. Had to fiddle with the Brooder panel placement height and top venting opening size to get a consistent temp, but managed to hatch out 2 of the 4 eggs I put in(I didn't need many more birds) this easter sunday ironically. if you can get a consistent temp of 99.5 and a humidity of maybe 40% (just spray water in when its on the higher temp side)you can basically hatch a chicken egg, if you don't mine turning them thrice daily for 18 days or so. note i had some times it dropped to 94 and once it was 106. but it is easier then it looks.

Had the forced air little giant with egg turner. Worked okay for a few hatches but lately with the last few runs I have had to dink with the temperature way to much. Going to be building my own. Thanks for the tips in your DIY incubator build.

I initially saw the little giant incubator but didn't feel it was right for me. The Nurture Right seems awesome! I was debating hatching chicken eggs next year so it being primarily a chicken egg incubator is nice if I decide to go that route.

First-time quail hatching here. We’re on day 19 and have one quail that hatched out of 16 eggs - still incubating, but moved our one guy out and he’s doing great! Should we be worried about the rest yet? Will one quail survive without any buddies? Thanks :)

That's a hard question to answer. If you can control the temps, humidity and air circulation then yes it would work.

Terry, when/if you design your own tabletop incubator do you think it'll roughly be 1/2 the size size of your cabinet model with 1 60w bulb and 1 fan ? THANKS

Testing a new design now. And yes it is slightly less than half the size of the original, and uses a smaller wattage bulb and fans.

Yes the chicken egg turner will move the eggs in all different positions, but I haven't had any issues with it and hatch rates. There are a few people building quail egg turners for the NR360

Thank you so much for your VERY informative incubator dissertation; I enjoyed it and you provided highly useful information! I hadn't heard of the Harris model before, just the Little Giant, though from the reviews I've read on Amazon and other sources, it has less positive input than a competing model from another manufacturer, the Hovabator. I've been looking at the Hovabator Advanced model, which comes with the egg turner, digital thermometer/hygrometer, air fan, etc., for about $130 to my front door from Amazon. The Brooder Box I would build myself, and though they are pricier, I'm thinking of going with a Ceramic Heater rather than the standard Red Heat lamp, in order to minimize chances of fire. Have you ever used a ceramic heater for a brooder box set up? I'm in rough shape physically, and up to this year I've made my living as a Computer Hardware Field Tech, but the same jobs I could do last year, I can't physically do this year.......so I'm looking at earning money in other ways. I raised chickens, turkeys, and even quail as a kid (back when pterodactyls were still flying), so it's not like I'm thinking about this out of the blue. I've done a mountain of research last year and this year, knowing what was coming down the pike for me physically. Like most folks, my budget is HIGHLY limited, and though I'd like to build an incubator using your video, for the 'first time out of the chute', I'd rather spend the hard earned money I have on a superior chance of success using a tried and true commercial model. Once I get my 'sea legs' (as it were), by successfully hatching four or five batches of Jumbo Coturnix using the Hovabator (or other commercial incubator), then I'll build 3 or 4 of your style incubators. Anywho, didn't mean to write War and Peace, much less make you read it! I enjoy your channel, and will be using your modeling for Cage Constructure videos; especially your Poop Pan set up! I read it too, and I use ceramic heaters in my brooders 25w. As they put out no light, I advise you to couple it with a low watt LED light. I think they are scared of the dark and piling up can occur without a 24/7 light in the first weeks. I own 4 Hovabator and one Sportsman Cabinet, they are excellent, I prefer the wafer thermometer. Do like this man recommends and dont add water. Good luck!

You mentioned “lock down” three times in the video. What does that mean?

Lockdown is when you remove the eggs from the turners and raise the humidity. You don't want to disturb them from this point on, thus calling it "lockdown". Hope this helps.

Hi Terry, I was wondering if you could help me out with how many trays do I fill up with water to get 65 to 70% humidity for lockdown. I have a hovabator. The directions say two trays but I live in Arizona little to no humidity in the air. I would appreciate your opinion I go into lockdown on Wednesday.

I fill all channels on my Little Giant on day 15 and get decent hatch rates. The more trays you fill the larger surface area of water you will have thus raising humidity. Experiment by filling each tray until you get the desired humidity level. Hope this helps and good luck with the hatch.

@@katiecamp3566, you can either remove some of the water or open a vent to reduce humidity levels. I usually shoot for about 60% during lockdown, also when the chicks start hatching the humidity will rise considerably. Normally day 14 or 15 is when you want to increase humidity, but I don't think one extra day will hurt your hatch.

Thanks, glad you are enjoying the channel. If you have eggs that are really light they are most likely not fertile. A fully developed egg will have some weight to it. After the hatch is finished you can open the light eggs and see what stage of development they were at. Good luck with your hatch!

I opened the light eggs and the were nearly dried out. There are two eggs with tiny holes and there are 18 more eggs which are heavy and did not hatch yet. How muchmore time should I give them/when should I turn off my Incubator(at the end of day 20?) You helped me a great deal by explaining how you build your Incubator so I could build my own. When doubling up the eggs in each spot, is there a problem with the eggs tumbling end over end? Are the eggs harmed if they tumble? Also, if the eggs are periodically resting with the pointy end slanted up, due to the turning, tumbling, and doubling up, will the eggs be negatively affected?

I haven't noticed any negative issues when doubling the eggs in the NR 360, although I rarely use it much anymore. My hatch rates have remained the same.

I just bought the hova bator with the quail egg turner. The eggs are just to large to seat down in the rails. At full tilt they just keep rolling out. Before I noticed it happened it had smashed 4 eggs when the rails tilted back the other direction. Looking for a way to hatch 100 jumbo eggs at a time

From my jumbos I select eggs that are between 14 and 18 grams, they pretty much all fit. What I do is place the largest eggs in the first and last rows of the turners closest to the walls of the incubator. That way they won't hit other eggs as the turner turns. If you want one of the foam incubators, do yourself a huge favor and get a Hova Bator instead of a Little Giant incubator! The thermostats are total junk on all the the Little Giant incubators.

Gumball machine would incubate better than LG. I cried when I read the big Made in the USA label! I tried 2 years to sort out hatching in my 2 Little Giants, killed sooo many embryos and wasted sooo much money on hatching eggs, it wasn't me, the LG thermostat is a randomly faulting piece of horse pucky!

People usually give them game bird pellets or normal bird seed, they can eat vegetables, cooked pasta and rice occasionally
