I think that you "need" direct drive smart trainer like zwift hub or wahoo core. It is more accurate that wheel-on and it has better road feel. It will be beneficial if you do most of your rides indoor.

Dang that makes sense. Yeah I just bought the saris because it was on sale and the cheapest option haha

Billy! If you are planning to do the Ironman in Florida I would highly suggest switching wetsuit's and going with a 3/2 mm. It is 3mm for the body and 2mm for the arms and legs. This is what most surfers in Florida use and I am always on the warmer side for most cold days in the water, you'd be surprised how fast you will overheat with just a few mm extra.
@williamjhou Жыл бұрын
Thank you! the Ironman I am gonna do is going to be outside the US but i think the water temp will be in the 60s. I did an olympic tri today and it was 64 with the wetsuit in the video, it felt perfect. I was super scared I would overheat but surprisingly didn't. I think mine is 5 for the chest 3 for back and 2 for the arms
@sidl8698 Жыл бұрын
good stuff man! Yeah having the 2mm for the arms makes a world a difference with flexibility

Couple things.. 1) For the trainer, ignore distance and speed. They are typically off and I dont worry about them. I'd get a power meter so the power part is accurate since you dont have a smart trainer. But just focus on time in the saddle. Ironman Florida is a flat and boring course, so get yourself mentally prepared. Also, you might want to get a bike fit. That may help with the uncomfortable feelings on the trainer. You should be comfortable while maximizing power output. 2) Wetsuit looks good. 3) Online coaching works fine. My coaches coach me online and they put in my workouts (Training Peaks) and analyze the data that my garmin uploads. They have also analyzed my swim stroke via video, but when I was able to be there in person I was able to get live analysis as well.
@williamjhou Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much that helps a lot! Training peaks was the site I was thinking about in the video… bike fit is what I shall do next.

i’d angle your seat slightly down for that position on the TT bars (should help the pp numbness) for it being uncomfortable… yeah, it is, maybe try getting out of the saddle every 10mins or so, just for a little bit

Loving the journey. You already nailed it in the comments… 1. Get a bike fit 2. Get a coach. PS I am one. Happy to get on a call to discuss your questions. Getting a coach will help save you from 500 mistakes. It’s a game changer. 3. Bank as much zone 2 HR training as you can in the next few months 4. See #2. 😂❤ Wishing you the best.

Do regular bike shops do bike fits? And sounds good!! Thank you!
@SurrealCycling Жыл бұрын
@@williamjhou Some do, some don't. But if you have a good bike shop near you, give them a ring. BTW another tip for you about Ironman: respect the distance, respect the race. It is going to humble you in ways you could never imagine and the person who you want to become from this experience, happens in the training. That is where the iron is forged. Not on race day. But the 100's of hours that lead up to it. Holler at me if you have more ?'s.

Saris has an app that allows you to calibrate your trainer to account for how tight the drum is interacting with the back tire. Just make sure you ride for about 10 minutes before calibrating to warm up the system to get an accurate calibration! I usually do a warm up, then calibrate, and then do the workout. If you don’t take the bike on/off the trainer or adjust the drum, there shouldn’t be a need to calibrate. Hope this helps! Direct drive trainers are definitely nice but wheel on ones are still solid especially for beginners
@williamjhou Жыл бұрын
I’ll have to get that for sure thank you!

Get a coach in person so they can be your swim coach too. Also, wear jammers or briefs in the pool for training. It will make it easier to keep proper body position and reduce drag.

Zwift ‘speed’ is based of your power output and power to weight & cadence so it’s not ‘real speed.’ When working out on Zwift focus on your technique and holding power, cadence etc.

@@williamjhou you need to buy a special Turbo Trainer Tyre made of a different compound. It might mean having a spare wheel with it on that you can swap over as they're pretty terrible outside due to the compound they are made from

It gets uncomfortable because the trainer doesn't move, although there are some high-end trainers that have some movement integrated. When you ride outdoors your body will do microadjustments, this doesn't happen riding indoors on a trainer.

Getting a radar might make you feel more safe riding outdoors.
