I've never actually watched Steven Universe but I've seen lore on it, this version of Spinel is better then her evil counterpart from the movie. Also I notice Spinel is the only character from Steven universe who's arms and legs can do that.

It's not really that she can "turn" into a crystal, but more like she already _is_ a crystal. The aliens called Gems are artificial beings made of technology and gemstones. Their gemstones are like mini-computers that act as their brain and true form, while their humanoid bodies are just projections from their gemstones. And yup, Spinel is good now. Her true nature is playful, humorous and friendly.
