Why you lost that battle: In EU4, there is "Combat Width" which is the amount of troops which can be fighting at once. If you exceed this, the rest wait around as reinforcements and fill gaps in the line. So what you really had was something like 40k Floridamen fighting 40k Frenchmen and getting slaughtered, over and over again, in waves of 40k. You almost won through sheer human waves tactics wearing the French down to 20k, but the huge casualty numbers led to your army running away. Combat width increases with technology. For the tactic you used to work, you need to stack morale bonuses and manpower bonuses so your troops don't give up after the massive slaughter, and so you recover troops quickly. (It's viable, but not with a standard army against a discipline focused army. You need to lean into the strategy.). There's also a discipline focused army option like you saw with Spain and France (And infamously, The Prussians) where you focus instead on increasing the damage and quality of the troops. What you did was throw 40k random dudes into the meatgrinder with 40k specialized combat veterans, over and over and over again. You didn't even brainwash them into loving dying for their country first. Another trick for human wave tactics is to leave half the army chilling outside the battle, then move them into the province when the first army is looking a bit beat up, and cycle between them. As a general rule, if you have the manpower for it, human wave tactics work really well in the game, but a lot of players prefer quality focused armies to feel powerful. EDIT: Oh, also, you attacked them in a defensive position across a river into a forest. Which didn't help. Also, you didn't have a general. I think it was close enough that if you fixed any of those problems, you may have won. On the bright side AA, in this horrifying alternative history you've created, the French will report that 200k Floridians, completely untrained and leaderless, chased them around the country and attacked them over a river into a forest, dying in wave after wave, before pulling back. That kind of reputation would end up serving Florida well when they finally got the idea of having generals.
@1ManRandom2 ай бұрын
It also didn’t help that he had no cavalry in the army, just infantry and artillery.
@officechairpotato2 ай бұрын
@@1ManRandom Yes. You should try and have at least some cavalry until you know the game better. Pure Inf-Art armies are fine if you know what bonuses to stack for some countries. Florida is not one of those countries. Though they do have +10% morale at the end of their tree, so his strategy wasn't the worst if he knew how to execute it.

@LongingSubset92 ай бұрын
@@ambiguousamphibian I would add that you can make armies into stacks. Make sure to have a general on an army as they can have a large impact on the battle. Cavalry is basically not really needed in large numbers by the second half of the game unless your country has specific bonuses for it (Poland for example). Infantry catches up and artillery will do large amounts of dmg + is needed for taking larger forts effectively.

To summarize, it’s more or less legal in Florida for news reporters to just go to police stations and say “give me the list of every arrest you’ve made in the last week and exactly what reason you were called out for.” In other states you usually have to wait until the cases actually develop to an extent before the information is publicly accessible. So if I call the cops on you for assaulting me with hot dogs, and on site the cops can’t really disprove that you assaulted me with the hotdogs and you get arrested for it, that’s now reportable information that can show up in the news as “Florida man assaults neighbor with hotdogs”.

In the shift, the content moved towards attention grabbing headlines and sheer quantity of stories in order to maximize clicks and traffic to maximize their revenue, which even maximized still led to them struggling to get by. Im glad you took the eu4 pill! Some tips: The combat width is why you lost that battle at the end. One regiment you recruit fills up one slot on the combat width, with artillery taking all slots in the back meaning you want a full frontline of infantry in front and artillery in the back. So for example, if the combat width is 40 then you want 40 line infantry and 40 artillery in any battle at one time. Combat Width increases with technology and is in the 10-20 range in the game's start. So the reason you lost is because the French obliterated the Floridian first responders so hard the other hundred thousand pissed their pants and fled the battlefield. Also recruit generals, ALWAYS, Changing the start date is not a good idea, its an outdated feature that got left behind by the devs. Spain was probably hemorrhaging money the entire game, alongside every other great power. I noticed you did a war against French without a Casus Belli. That is based as hell but also it destroys your countries stability and everybody will hate you if you do that.

The reason why your 200k units lost against the 30k units is likely due to the difference in technology between you. As time progresses in the game new technologies are unlocked which you need to buy with mana points (admin points, diplomacy points, military points). In your case, you were likely behind in military technology which affects things such as troop morale, military tradition, combat width, unit type, etc. all things that affect army combat in the game. You can also increase your unit's military prowess through the use of ideas which are also paid for with mana points. Mana points are used almost everywhere in the game and the generation of them is hugely important.

After spending almost 1,5k hours in EUIV, this was a bit painful to watch for me. The provinces development is split on tax, production and manpower. The churches you built give bonus tax income depending on province tax development (the tax is the worst development type btw.) and they didn't give you almost anything. The province income can also be reduced by its autonomy (from 0 to 100%) and by devastation (mostly if enemy occupies your province) so its important to keep these low (by reduce autonomy option and building forts).

It's generally a good idea to recruit generals, not only because they give you significant stat bonuses in combat, but also because you can give them funny names. (I think you need the right DLC for that tho.) Selected units can be grouped together into larger armies by pressing G (which you can also give funny names.) Armies don't bring food along with them, they just take it from the province they are currently in. If you have too many men in one province, they slowly starve.
@theonlyamergeddon2 ай бұрын
Btw for the next time you play a colonial nation, maxing out as much native assimulation is how you get a MASSIVE economy you can get up to such a high assimulation you basically get a free foundaries worth of production once you finish it, it takes longer but is worth it so much more, especially since your capital is in the new world. If your cap is in the old world or Asia go for the speed of colonies if you exist in the new area you are colonising assimilation is the way to go. Oml I also realised you need to have generals in your armies or they get STOMPED have around 25k stacks 15 infantry 3 cav and 7 cannon's as you tech up supplies add 5 troops, each stack needs a general, its a dice based combat system each stat gives +1 to each 'damage phase' so basically you were fighting with a massive disadvantage, tactics is also the most vital stat for armies (if you have simular sized armies but more tatics you will smash them no matter how good there generals are) also remember to click the "merge armies button" you take more attition on troops when they are all individuals and move at different speed's meaning your troops are basically marching single line into battle with no fomation in that big fight with also 0 leadership haha, so very in Floridian fashion ;)

Well you got 10 hours in, so you should be familiar with the UI. That’s about it though, eu4 is notorious for taking a long time to learn and near impossible to master. My main pointers for people just starting is 1. For your first couple of playthroughs stick to medium to large European nations 2. Look at your selected countries national ideas, these are specific to each nation and can help to guide your playthrough. 3. Plan what ideas you want to take, it is a very good idea to select ideas that help stack the modifiers from your national ideas These three pointer will help you get started, but I suggest watching a couple of guide videos because there is a lot that happens before you even unpause the game for the first time and my comment would need to be an essay to explain. The learning curve for this game is worth it, endless possibilities to play in eu4.

Hello Mr. Ambiguous, I have read a few of the comments written by fans bellow and have come to tell you that far too few people understand how this game actually functions in not just war but also peace time activities. I would not recommend listening to reddit when it comes to advice about this game. If you are interested in diving into EU4 with a decent grasp of how this shit works, check out the channel Arumba on KZbin. He has a very strong grasp of the fine details and esoteric mechanics of the game and maybe very helpful to you. Try the Arumba's Assay play list where he takes other people's doomed games and turns them around.
