Sustainable transport doesn't always meen replacing a car with another car (EV). It's great that you think one step further then most people. :-)

A couple of months ago I've moved to London for my new job. My Ioniq Ev is sitting in front of my house unused. I've been cycling to work. Trying the Lime bikes, Santander bikes. I'm seriously considering an electric bike for my daily use in London.

I bought a Toyota Prius 2006 wich I‘m still driving. As of this I could not move to a fully electric car and bought a Bosch Ebike in 2012. As long as I dont have to transport my two kids, I prefer the bike for inner city moving. But i‘m looking forward to buying an Ioniq Pre-Facelift next winter. Looking forward to your next videos!

Another great video. Many thanks. Really interesting. Please don't feel the need to apologise. Anyone that isn't interested will simply click on a different video. The point is that *you* are interested, and since your viewers are likely to be similar to yourself, quite likely that it'll be interesting to us too! I still remember trying an e-bike a few years ago and loving it. Very cool indeed.

So many of us have become accustomed to a car being (or being perceived as) “essential” to our lives. It is great that you are showing that this can be questioned, there can be alternatives, and it is a matter of finding a personal/family best fit. Good on you walking more, legs are there to be used.

Having reached an age (and health) where big uphill stretches on a pedal bike are not possible e' bikes have a big attraction for me, but if I am to invest it must be functional for shopping etc. This looks ideal . For daily commutes this must be a major part of the solution options, with cars perhaps relegated to longer journeys (perhaps making ownership rather than rental uneconomic ?). Whatever the final outcome transport of all sorts is in for a massive shakeup.

Like the idea of a Electric Power Assisted Bike, I have owned an Ioniq for 6 months now and still keep up with the KZbin reviews , I still think the Ioniq is the best all round option for my commuting and ideal for 95percent of my journey needs ( UK holidays have not occurred down to apprehension of public charging) but I notice the Renault KZE 2020 is a design aimed at City driving, have you considered this as an option in Denmark, I followed all the videos as I came from a 60mpg SUV and prefer the high driving position.

Hello Duncan, I hope all is well in Denmark. There is one good point about bikes I would like to make here. BALANCE, it's just fine to ride a bike and not have a care in the world when riding alone. Question yourself this though, have you ever ridden a bike built for TWO (2) people? I have and sure it looks like FUN and easy to see why it looks like fun. But, actually riding a bike with two people on it is quite the balancing act. Now try to imagine yourself riding that same bike with two toddlers on it, OR small children sitting in seats behind you, as ONE leans over to view something when the other sits still. Balance goes out the proverbial window. You may find yourself riding that bike into the ditch... With a couple of screaming and crying kids to boot. Falling off is a totally other matter when you have passengers. Those passengers might object to abrupt stops involving road burn and scraping flesh off the pavement. Bikes are FUN, yes that is true. But they never compare to being inside a car. As a man with a family talking to a man with a family, I like biking by myself. Biking with the kids on their own bikes, spouse too for that matter ON HER OWN Bike. Those tandem bikes as fun as they are and the laughs they provide, seem to jump out the window as soon as one falls, the other is sure to follow. Know what I mean?? Are you ok? Is often the sentence I have to keep asking just in case they hurt themselves. Especially if I fall off first.... Cargo does not move on it's own, humans are unpredictable at the best of times. Telling someone not to do something has a plethora of consequences. So stay safe and be careful. I love to hear about your journeys, as silly as they are to you, they bring a grin to my face, knowing that I have thought and done some of those things myself. SURE I can laugh about it now, but a learning experience is best when Shared.

Just a side note here I am almost 70. So although I am new to EV's (well sort of) I had battery operated vehicles when it was not as HOT a topic as they are today. Personally, I currently drive a car that is no longer made. It is a lowly PHEV (a Chevrolet Volt). I drive entirely on Electric whenever I can. It may not be as efficient as an Ioniq, but it is still less expensive than one may think. The power to charge my car comes from the SUN. I bought a membership to a local science museum that have a solar array that generates 900 kWh per day of energy to supply their physical daily operation. They have installed 2 TWO J1772 chargers and I charge my car to 135 km of range and can easily achieve 160 km of range weekly. So charging my car once per week is entirely possible. Did I mention that it was FREE and that it is SOLAR. So no fossil fuel is used on many trips around the city where I live. In fact the only time I use the ICE, is when I take a trip that is out of my EV's range.

Thanks. These are good points. To start off with I’ll be taking my son with me by bus. It could be very helpful - and fun for him too - to do some short test rides with him too. You’re right that could really tip the “balance” ;) I’ve also been looking at the Urban Arrow Family. It has a really low centre of gravity by design. Again I should try one with him in :)

Hiya Duncan, just a further thought, thanks for sharing your idea's on those bikes. They sure have come a long way with respect to bicycling haven't they? Yikes & Ye Gads!! are the words that I think of when I looked at the prices for Electric Bikes. OMG, $7,999 CAD for an Urban Arrow Family bike. That is used car territory In My Honest Opinion. Even a modest Renault Zoe would give you more coverage in the rain and in winter you would be a tad warmer to boot. Travelling long distances is also slightly more comfortable when in close proximity to other family members. In any case I am sure that you are going to research until you find the solution that fits for you. You found that Leaf and the Ioniq. I am sure other opportunities will find their way to you as well. I wish you well and your family too, time to get them acclimated to their new surroundings. Have fun in Denmark. I am a FAN...

Are you sure you have actually been on a bike with kids? Or are you just making this stuff up? People do not ride into ditches because the kids on the back move about - that's just nonsense. It is true that cycling with an adult sat on the back rack is a skill that takes a little practice, but cycling with kids is really not hard.

You will be glad to have your family, that fossil burning ferry was made in Tasmania. Tasman Bridge disaster 5 January 1975, started a cross Derwent river ferry. by Bob Clifford (a small boat). Bob Clifford started his company "Incat Tasmania", you will recognize the ships as several cross the English Channel. Enjoying watching your journey. All the best..........Peter.

Never sure about bicycle only be it an e-Bike or not. I just think of horrible nasty weather and winter in Denmark riding a bicycle. Hope you go back to an EV at some point in future. I can understand trying these various options out. Never sure though what your family will think as you transport them around in wet/windy/cold generally miserable weather on an e-Bike. That ferry I think I know where it was manufactured right down the road from where I live, did you see any signs saying the manufacturer, Incat Tasmania perhaps? :)

Thanks. I’ve been watching an Urban Arrow Family video where they have the rider in a full poncho and a big rain cover for the kids. Looks funny... but pretty hardcore. Probably what’s needed to actually use it all year round... Yeah another commenter noted the ferry is Australian. There seem to be basically two big ferry building companies left in the world :)

Rain isn't really a problem on a bike - you just have some suitable clothes (or a brolly - riding with one of those is quite popular in some places). Cycling in the rain is perfectly normal in Denmark: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZXQaWmEftGfkLs

I think you have come across a really useful electric bike there so a couple of questions. Is there some legal way to have a 750w bike in Denmark or is it just that nobody is ever going to stop you and check. Second question: isn't all porridge vegan until you pour the milk on?

Question didn't milk start off as Vegan? What exactly do cows eat? What do cows make as a result of the production of that milk? I think even the poop that comes from the cows eventually becomes some sort of Vegan promoting compound. When did milk become something that was not meant to be vegan? Which begs to question is Coffee Vegan?

I had a look and it seems the regs changed in October. You can now have up to 1000w but the bikes have to be registered and insured and the rider has to have a licence so how it differs from an electric moped I'm not sure. www.cyclingweekly.com/news/product-news/new-e-bike-category-ups-power-1000-watts-396471

Electrification of boats is going to be a big deal. Especially with vertical wind turbines and solar, plus sails and the like. I wonder if we will look back on the sail boats to steam to diesel and back to electric assist sails again as a hiccup in boating evolution. I'm also watching the Electrification of air travel. My favourites are the sail plane gliders that have booster electric motors either folding into the front nose cones or ones the fold out of the tail booms. There are a few electric commercial planes just starting now and personal drone 'flying cars' that are electric too. Airbus is working on that with a Taxi that has a pod that flies or drives or both in development. Eviation has their small passenger plane 9-12 passenger plane coming out really soon. Copenhagen to London range. This is my favourite: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKKnp3qvaMl4rrM

Well I researched the car ownership issue in Denmark. WOW, they are crazy against automobile ownership in that country for sure. Comfort Duncan, my bad for suggesting a car over a bicycle. Tax 180% on top of the price of a car, even on EV's starting in 2020. That is insane, even I would definitely NOT buy a car in Denmark. Not even rent or lease one either. GET a BIKE...

You need to teach your children to ride the bike, especially your daughter is way too old, to not have her own bike. It's about her freedom to go where she wants. All her classmates will have a bike and you can go a lot further on a bike rather than walking. -and- that she gets her own bike does not mean you cannot get an E-bike 😉 I hope everything works out for you all.

Interesting. A 750w bike motor but a top speed of 25kph. If it is legal (previous 750w bikes had to be registered and insured and you could get niether) this could really help getting up the hills in Sheffield whilst carrying children and maintaining pace. On the flat or hills less than 5 mins ride a 250w motor does alright with both boys in the bike trailor. So I imagine in Denmark it would be ok too. However if this bike was legal and you could go 35kph on it I would be ordering it now and selling the 2nd car.
