I work at a game store in Sydney and I can confirm we get lots of people in asking how to start playing magic. Usually we walk through a game with them using these mono coloured starter decks we have for the purpose :)

I believe in Canadian highlander the system is 100 card singleton, Bo3, no sideboard, 10 point max. Australian/7 point highlander (I've heard it called both) is 60 card singleton, Bo3, sideboards allowed, 7 point max. Gladiator is an Arena only format created by one of the Canadian highlander committee members (Benjamin Wheeler, also of LRR), they are 100 card singleton, no sideboard, Bo3 with a ban list. I could have some details forgotten but I believe you guys got the gist of this already in your talk. Additionally you guys mentioned the yu-gi-oh game that ranked your deck based on each individual cards score. It was "recently" discovered that Arena does this for their brawl format and puts you into certain queue's based on the score. I originally saw a video by Amazonian, a primarily magic arena brawl creator as I understand, that explained the bug that allowed players to manually check the rating of each card and how it affects your decks score. Great video, it explains why you go up against a lot of the same commanders/don't see certain commanders anymore in brawl because it was raised/lowered in rating and is no longer in your queue range.

That Amazonian video was amazing in so many ways, including for Gramps and his tinfoil hat “Arena cheats” theories! It works so well on digital but would be so hard to keep up with in paper formats.

I know Arena occasionally asks you about the match you just played - not necessarily about the game/opponent though. More trying to gather data about the cards/deck style etc MTGO does this after Commander games (at least, haven't played any digital MTG in quite a while - fact gained from watching MTGGoldfish vids) in a very basic form - just asks you to submit a vote for the "Best" player. No real data can be gathered from this either. Also have suggestions for future episodes - Card/s you'd like to see banned that already aren't & why they should be banned? (If any), Nadu.... Also @Chilly suggestion for 'Syntax Daddy' - there's the option on ScryFall to sort by EDHRec Rank to show you the most played cards, you may need to sign up for an account though....

I always try to communicate my threat level, especially when people try to hide their power level. I had someone brush aside their board state to point out my threat level. It's frustrating, especially with newer/less confident players.

@@casualcompliance also what I don't understand about the whole improper loss situation is why didn't the player just wait till his next draw then scoop? He could have even made it known that is what he was going to do. Would have been the same result but properly playing

@@horticulturalist7818 Right I mean makes a lot of sense. There was no gain or loss from what basically amounted to a cheeky SnS (Scry n Scoop). - Gramps
