Denmark's total yearly exports to the USA is worth around $6.5 billion and the imports are worth around $5.5 billion. To put this into some sort of perspective, then Denmark has seen an increasing government budget surplus since the covid-19 crisis, ranging in the area from around a $8.4 billion to $18.4 billion surplus a year, despite a huge increase in military spending's and billions worth of military aid for Ukraine. So we are not scared of a trade war with the USA, only sorry for all the US citizen who will die no longer being able to afford buying insulin from Novo Nordisk, that today is saving lives in the USA from the lethal Diabetes, that is a huge problem in the USA. In any case, the EU have already made it clear that a trade war against one of it's members will be dealt with as a trade war against all of the EU, so a US trade war with Denmark over the ownership of Greenland also = a trade war with all of the EU, which would be a disaster for the USA and Trump.

Oil, gas and minerals all lead to more jobs. There's also a large deposit of uranium and plutonium in Greenland leading to more nuclear options for the USA. All this leads to a greater energy independence. @@goofygrandlouis6296 Answer: Weak? Well, maybe, or perhaps wise to follow international rules. Remember how it has gone for all dictators throughout history who tried to build an empire by force-they all fell, and we 'weak' ones have always stood back after their little adventures. Take Putin, for example. He wanted to create an empire by conquering more land, which only leads to Russia falling into economic collapse and losing all its global influence and respect. The same will happen to the USA if they adopt this style. If a leader wants to write themselves into history, the time is over in the modern world for doing so by conquering, destroying, and ruining. No, they will be remembered for what they build through cooperation. If Putin had used the same resources to build up Russia as he has on war, destruction, and devastation, he would have a legacy as the man who raised Russia. Now he must look forward to being remembered as the fool who sank Russia into poverty and contempt from the world-just another dictator's dream of an empire that falls to the ground with a crash. And if you don't know your history, let me help you: the Romans, Napoleon, Hitler, Mussolini, Saddam, and so on-all dictators and conquerors fall one day. Only cooperation gives eternal life. So weak? Hmm, more like wise and humane."

Alright, let’s take a moment to reflect on this. I get it-peace is nice, fairness sounds appealing, and the world certainly seems abundant at the moment. But here’s the thing: history has a way of repeating itself, whether we’re paying attention or not. And those strategic insights scattered across international relations books, often dismissed or conveniently ignored, have been trying to tell us something for a long time. The world isn't exactly the utopia some would like to believe it is. Now, don’t get me wrong-diplomacy and ideals are important, and I’m all for a little optimism. But let’s not kid ourselves into thinking that human history, with all its wars, conflicts, and power struggles, has somehow been rendered irrelevant. To think we’re immune to those realities now is like saying we’ve cured the common cold. As we like to say in the tactical world: “No one loves the warrior until the enemy is at the gate.” And trust me, when that time comes, it’ll be less about human rights praise and more about whether we’ve been preparing for the worst. So sure, continue to celebrate those moments of calm and diplomacy. But let’s not get too comfortable in that dream world. When the tides change-and they always do-those who’ve been busy keeping their eyes firmly on the horizon will be the ones wishing they had looked back at the lessons of the past. The real question is: Will we have the wisdom to learn from history, or will we find ourselves playing catch-up when the stakes are higher than ever? We’ve seen this story before. The tacticians who guard the chokepoints aren’t just theorists; they’re the ones who ensure we don’t end up regretting our choices when it’s too late. Let’s hope, for all our sakes, that their warnings don’t go unheeded until it’s, well, kind of obvious.

No reason to attack Iraq at 9/11 and they STILL continue to supply Saudi with weaponry and are cordial to them when it was the Saudi who attacked them. There is no logic with them as there is no logic with Canada, Greenland, Denmark, Germany, Panama or any of the other countries the orange stain is being disgustingly rude to. These are sovereign countries. ALL of them.

The problem is that Greenland doesn't have the economic strength to defend itself from China or Russia. Either of them could simply kill off Greenland in an act of genocide in a matter of days. As a territory of Denmark they rely heavily on subsidies from Denmark to function. They are not a self sufficient territory. I don't see the use of military force except in the case of a strong and dangerous influence by Russia or China. Saying that he won't rule out force is not the same as saying it is feasible or likely to happen. I can easily state that the US citizens would never support a violent outcome against Greenland. We have nothing but goodwill and kindness towards Greenland. Offer 10 million per citizen to vote to join the USA and I imagine the will of the people would speak loud and clear. It certainly would not hurt Greenland at all to join the USA. They could easily protect their language and culture when they write their own state constitution.

“All you had to do is ask.” So blatantly true that it seems strange that no one is bringing that up as a knockout punch to this ludicrous Trump idea. How does not “owning” Greenland inhibit American military interests in the arctic region? If new bases are needed, Denmark and Greenland would say, “fine. Where would you like to put your next 10 naval bases? Would you like several more radar installations while we’re at it?” The fact that this would not be good enough for Trump exposes the truth that Trump’s narcissism, his personal fantasy of presidential greatness, is what he’s thinking about. Moreover, his electoral base of American exceptionalists love it when the U.S. bullies the rest of the world. That’s what being an American means.

Trump is a negotiator and peace maker. During his term, there was no new war started unlike his predecessors for several decades. He makes peace in the Middle East with the "Abraham Accord", which many said cannot be done. Shortly after he left office, war broke out in Ukraine. Trump will end the war in Ukraine soon enough. Trump is not a career politician and he has a way of its own. He talks tough on N. Korea and its leader and at the end, he initiated a historic meeting with the N. Korean leader to work toward a constructive future. That is just Trump and he is not a warmonger. Best to judge a leader by the deeds, not by the words or rhetoric. It was a reporter that put such question on Trump and he responded in a passive way. "Not rule out" something can be very ambiguous and one can say that without having any real intention. If the US wants to take Greenland, it would have done so long ago. In 1946, the US offered $100,000,000 for Greenland, but Denmark rejected it. The US is the de facto dominant military power there and has been for over 80 years. It protected Greenland from Nazi occupation during WW2, while Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany.

As an American, I'm embarrassed for you. We already have several military installations in Greenland. Also Greenland is NOT green, with the exception of a VERY small forest at the southern most end of the island. On the contrary, Greenland has the second largest ice cap in the world, second only to the Antarctic ice cap. Trump wants it for both economic and strategic reasons. The increasingly usable Northwest Passage in the Arctic runs right past Greenland, and there are tremendous Fossil Fuels and Rare Earths in Greenland. Deposits that rival Iraq or China in quantity. Denmark has done nothing to exploit these resources for decades, whereas the US has both the means and will to do so. The people of Greenland would actually benefit from the economic investment that would result from US acquisition. The battle for Antwerpen was very hard, fought defended by Waffen SS, and the Canadian Army was victorious, and the Belgian people have been ever grateful.

Empires have risen and fallen, and most thought it impossible at the time. We can look at some reasonably recent empires, once thought impossible to drop out of existence, that have now dissolved: the Austria-Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Soviet Union. All three collapsed less than about 100 years ago. We have also seen the rise of Empires, which many thought impossible. We can look at the United Kingdom, Germany, the European Union, and even the United States of America. All had independent regions or states, but ultimately, they formed as a united power for greater strength and security. Time will tell what happens, but you never know what might happen once the idea is tossed out. It really depends on the imagination of the people involved and the resolve and courage of its leaders. Also, you don't stop becoming Canadian, Greenlandian, or American in a unification. A Scottish, Irish, Welsh, or English person hasn't stopped being those things because they joined the United Kingdom. Kingdoms often result from several dynamics, but the central unifiers are commerce, culture, beliefs, and security. Suppose Trump is serious about merging America, Canada, and Greenland. In that case, the real question is who else is a "willing partner" in such a New Empire: Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and maybe even some European countries? As history has shown, times change, and those who fail to see the changes are often confused and surprised by events. I believe a powerful Western Empire will soon arise, which the Bible warns about. Just my two cents. Blessings †

Originally the old ruling capitalist classes and monarchies of Europe had destroyed themselves in world war. Now that Russian and China have dropped Socialism the same kind of Imperialist war mentality has returned. Different countries lining up in trade and military alliances fighting for profits and natural resources. Imperialism remains the highest stage of capitalism.

only way to get greenland, is to take it. by militarily taking it from denmark. that is an article 5 situation. nato is obligated to go to war against usa. thats 37 nations versus usa. the war would be mostly symbolic, but usa would loose every base in europe. it would be isolated globally, and face china/russia on its own without intelligence coop, international bases (outside of in israel) and good luck with that. usa's only friends are in europe cpt for australia (great base for attacking china, do the australians really have a strong legal claim to it?) and japan (same deal as australia + we kinda took it, and its already trumps then, isnt it?) the man is insane. he is what ww3 looks like.

Actually the USA could handle Europe easily and keep their important bases there. There have been scenarios played out for this if you google search. Greenland is not suited to be its own country and Denmark can’t provide the security needed for that region of the world. If the US has to protect a territory it should be theirs.

What i dont understand here is why? Why not just increase military and come up with a plan to get some ressources? Im more than sure that greenlanders will be happy to work together,as thats a step further for their independence, why is it that trump thinks he can just buy 56000 people like they where cattle at a auction, frankly its wildly inappropriate and insulting towards Greenland and the people living there , and to those not understanding that please turn it around, imagine if YOU yourself suddenly stood in a situation where someone wanted to buy you and the land you stood on, how would you feel about that, also Danish vikings "discovered " USA so maybe Denmark got a claim on USA maybe we should buy them? And give it back to the Native Americans as they hold the real claim to their land , every one else in the US are actually all immigrants, ugh i hate stuff like this , freaking learn to respect people !

He's not buying people or their land. He's attempting to buy Sovereignty. Big difference... Read Trump's book "The Art of the Deal". You'll understand what he's doing. Also the "native Americans" you speak of were also immigrants. They came from Asia across the Bering strait. They were, in many cases, also paid for their land, and mexico was it's own thing by the time we moved west.. It wasn't all "stolen" like people constantly claim. Some notable examples include: The Manhattan Purchase (1626): ~22,000 acres. Land in Pennsylvania acquired by William Penn in the late 1600s: Several million acres Treaty of Fort Stanwix (1784): The U.S. acquired large portions of modern-day Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Northwest Territory: Lands in the Ohio Valley (Estimated at several million acres.) were sold by Indigenous peoples. The Treaty of Greenville (1795) The Louisiana Purchase (1803) 828,000 acres from France The Gadsden Purchase involved the U.S. buying land from Mexico (about 29,670 square miles) in southern Arizona and New Mexico for $10 million. Others were the result of wars: The Mexican-American War (1846-1848) and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848) Texas declared independence from Mexico, and was annexed by America from Mexico as many Texans wanted to join the US. This caused a war between The US and Mexico. What Happened: The U.S. defeated Mexico in the Mexican-American War, which resulted in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. This treaty transferred vast territories from Mexico to the U.S., including: Texas (which had already been annexed) California Arizona New Mexico Nevada Parts of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Kansas. In exchange, the U.S. paid Mexico $15 million and dissolved the $3.25 million in debts owed to U.S. citizens by Mexico. The Gadsden Purchase involved the U.S. buying land from Mexico (about 29,670 square miles) in southern Arizona and New Mexico for $10 million. This land was desired for the construction of a southern transcontinental railroad. There are more that aren't posted here.. As you can see... not everything was "stolen" as you claim....
