Goku has outrun explosions before, like in his fight with freiza before he went ssj. But I think he chose to go down with King Kai bc he realized if he were to just tp away, he would be selfishly sacrificing king kai which is completely out of Gokus Character. He wouldn't force something onto someone else that he wouldn't do himself. Then I think he realized after dying that its best for him to stay at King Kais place rather than coming back to earth

Even if you discount the movies, Buu was hidden on Earth before Goku was even born. Also, Frieza's empire was aware Earth existed, as well as its average power level, and would have eventually arrived, with foreseeable results. Therefore, his argument he attracts trouble is BS.

Yeah, he could have just used IT to get Cell there, and IT again to come back. Because even after getting there he had time to talk to King Kai for a moment. I think saving King Kai and the others would’ve been tough though. There would have been no time.

For someone who even as a child was able to move faster than the eye could see, he should have been able to gather King Kai, Bubbles and Greggory within a few milliseconds and then immediately teleport to Earth, leaving Cell behind.

I think Ki scales much differently than your overall personal level. In early saiyan saga Piccolo's power level far exceeded his initial readings just on the amount of Ki he was building in front of raditz before he unleashed the makankosappo. I think Cell had been storing far more than enough Ki at that point to barely obliterate goku despite gokus durability. now should goku have been able to get away by raw speed? Absolutely.

Of course he could have survived by just getting back to Earth but he would have to live with the guilt that he sacrificed his mentor King Kai just so he could live. Goku didn't want that plus during the whole saga he was anticipating he would die one day. Honestly Instant Transmission at the right moments if you think about it would make db villains a joke but him dying was a very powerful moment for Gohan.

Apparently king Kai wasn't even dead. he easily could have taken him and the pets to visit earth. I would've loved to see something like that. And we still could have the drama of cell coming back..
