As a kid I never questioned that SS3 Goku was weaker than Ultimate Gohan. Gohan was just too overwhelmingly dominant against Super Buu. Aside from that, Gohan doesn't have the ki limitations that SS3 Goku has, so, even if they're comparable in power, Goku's stamina would give out way before Gohan's.

Fundamentally if ssj3 Goku would lose to ultimate Gohan in the manga then he’ll win against Goku in the anime too as even tho the specifics may slightly differ the anime’s end goal is still the same as the manga

Im.not saying im.sure whos stronger, but goku was fighting buu(gotenks absorb) whom gohan cant even touch, and at the end if goku and vegeta was sure gohan was.stronger than kid buu then the spirit bomb was irrelevant, they could have easily teleport gohan or wish to the dragon to bring gohan to the kai planet,
