Design-wise he was absolutely cool, definitely no arguments there. And the overall designs of the whole film in fact work really well! It was sadly just one big missed opportunity to do something way better.

The designs in this movie were great and it had some enjoyable parts, but thats pretty much it... Your ideas would have saved this story and made it in my opinion more intriguing.

It was quite possibly one of the greatest wasted potentials in Disney history. But then again I’m not shocked, especially after observing what their philosophies and practices has been the past few years. They’ve absolutely sacrificed storytelling quality (very few exceptions aside). Right now I see these years as the second Disney dark age, BUT maaaaaaaybe they’re making a comeback. We’ll wait and see. But yeah in the meantime these were my propositions, so fingers crossed they could be considered next time they decide to do anything with Buzz’s lore. Can’t be much worse than this 😂

I felt overall the same. The movie is so very faithless. where's the Indiana Jones style pulp serial in space? and the multiple jumps just piss me off more and more as i think about them. it's so fucking dumb. also Sox was indeed the best part of the movie.

Yeah, the jumps really, reeeeeally got to me, and I'm surprised no one is pointing them out as being a ridiculous problem. But oh well. And yeah, it could have been so much more fun. Heck, if it had been inspired even by Flash Gordon or something that would have worked too (Buzz has Star Wars references, and SW is inspired by FG anyway). But instead, it feels like they just checked every box of what a typical modern blockbuster would be like, without any voice of its own. Just safe and vanilla. Fingers crossed that Pixar will get back on its A-game soon, since I can't say I've been too impressed with their films the past couple of years.

@@worldbuildingfilms507 at least it was a bit fairhful to the source material. I've seen one or 2 films that don't do that.

@@olleselin One or two films based on Buzz, or you mean franchise films in general outside Pixar that don't stay faithful to their source material? And personally, what was faithful here was so only on a very surface level, and they could have done much better. And I'd like to even say that maybe they could redeem themselves in a sequel, but considering the box office numbers, I highly doubt that Disney will ever be incentivised to actually continue this. But I'm interested to hear your thoughts on that!

@@olleselin Then yes, that's very true. Then again, Hollywood is known for rarely making a faithful adaptation of anything. And in fairness it wasn't as if this didn't have some talent and care behind it, because there was that. It's just that motivation and base idea behind it was very loose and lazy, when it had plenty of groundworks freely available to become something much more, and they left all that good meaty material on the side. But oh well. It's Pixar. The few times they weren't up for the job, they immediately course corrected and made something great not long after, so fingers crossed for the future ones coming down the line.
