Can a single ship of the same class of the Pegasus stand up to and defeat three Cylon Basestars?! I answer that question by facing the ships off against each other in Battlestar Galactica Deadlock.
Please let me know what you're thoughts are in the comments below! Do you think that a Mercury class Battlestar can stand up to three basestars?

Pegasus entered the battle with a mechanic on the bridge, instead of a trained commander, and a bunch of unresolved problems in the command structure, a consequence of the mixing of the crews of Galactica and Pegasus. It's a miracle that he survived.

It was a production decision that Pegasus be cut. Let's be real, that ship was a beast and probably would have survived to the end. It had onboard fabrication facilities (extensive according to some of the lore) that could probably even be used to build components to repair itself. Unlike Galactica, which carried the scars from it's first battle for the entire series

Thankfully Galactica did have the benefit of a Celestra class support ship which explains how she made it as long as she did. They never really explained it, but the ship is there none the less. I love BSG Deadlock, but the ships are not nearly as powerful as what is shown in the show. Look at the Jupiter 2 Galactica shown in Blood and Chrome. That said I find that Battlestars of any kind are far superior to the Cylon ships. The Cratos is the only ship they have that is even close to going toe to toe with especially a Mercury. Flak, as limited in direction as it is, is a massive advantage against an enemy that depends so heavily on missiles. Great video showing how the mechanic should have been in the show as well. 10 modern Basestars vs the Pegasus... that would have been a better threat.

We must be reminded that Pegasus was not yet complete and properly manned. The scenes with Admiral Cain on the CIC were more crowded with officers than during the rescue of New Caprica. So it wasn't at peak performance. Also, Cylons tend to latch onto an injured target to finish him off like vultures or sharks. Pegasus had powerful frontal armament capable of shredding a Cylon Basestar in the first salvos, but four were on Galactica, not just the tree. One temporarily retreated after receiving Pegasus' "Welcome Salvo". I think the show's CGI team failed to illustrate just how dire Galactica's situation was and how imperative it was for Pegasus to hold its damage for a while. Having Lee attack only from afar, they would have preferred to destroy Galactica first, an easy dead target in the water, THEN direct their missile launchers and their raiders against the Beast. The worst-case scenario for the Cylon would be to lose two Basestars while blowing the Beast from the skies. But, of course, Galactica had the huge Armor Plot advantage and Pegasus became expendable for some reason. Some said it was because they needed the studio space to recreate more Cylon Basestar interior rooms. However, that wasn't the battle I assumed the Beast would fall. I think the perfect battle would be in the Ionian Nebula, perhaps sacrificing yourself in a blaze of glory while trying to tank six Basestars plus your ensuing waves of Cylon raiders, both normal and heavy ones. That would be epic and make the situation MUCH MORE tense, especially when the remaining enemy fleet starts firing their guns at the civilian fleet. I love BSG: Deadlock, but it barely embodies the Basestar's mighty. First, they have a small payload for their incredible firepower, which means they'd be easy targets for what, six, or seven combat turns (nine if you know what you're doing, the game's AI is really trigger-happy and always suffers from friendly fire). Second, they have few raider squads. They should have the same amount of squads as Cerberus, as they rely on them for their own defenses and don't have bullet weapons. The best (modded) game to play this type of simulation is Homeworld (2), with the Fleet Command Mod installed. When you see two Cylon Basestars coming after you, you'll know you don't have much time to think about it, just fire the flak barrage, launch your vipers and raptors and all the ordinances you have against them, and pray another one doesn't show up at the Dradis. The OP should try it and maybe post some combat footage here.

@@Restitutor_Orbis_214 So I agree that it would have been best to not close out the story and just leave them searching. I mean if the show is going to be cancelled, which it was. As for the ending... I hated it at first, after I dug into some of the extended lore it started making sense and I actually liked it to a point (hint: it's Interstellar basically, at least in principle). But you shouldn't require viewers to do that, I understand that most people won't and I get it You could tell when the writers were getting boxed in with the recycled tropes, as you pointed out. That said, while I have my issues with some of the episode's plots, I've grown to love _most_ of the show. It was an attempt to explore human nature in a deep way which led to the writers sometimes bashing us over the head with messages about humanity being crude and prone to violence. The Rebel Cylons under Deanna immediately turning on the fleet and taking hostages still irks me a bit. However, while I hated the Gaeta mutiny arc at first I actually like it a lot now because it clearly displays the character and loyalties of almost every individual, and I was getting tired of hearing all the bitching about skinjobs this and that on Demetrius. The enemy of my enemy is... well if not a friend, an ally and the colonials were just acting like fools resisting this. It was nice to see perpetual malcontent and "revolutionary" Zarek finally make his move and get destroyed for it. There are people like him in real life and they scare the hell out of me As for the bar being swung too far... maybe. There were times when it did feel like they went out of the way to make the tech feel very retro, in an unbelievable way. To be an FTL capable civilization that has been spacefaring for (probably) millennia yet still be taking grainy b&w photos and using 1950s radio equipment stretched belief at times. On the other hand, this was supposed to be a civilization that was so terrified of technology that they willingly gave much of it up (takes a lot for humans to do that). Caprica expanded on that where we see that before the FCW they did indeed have very advanced technology. I can appreciate some anachronism too, as in trying to imagine another civilization where things just developed differently from our world. Personally, I believe science has taken a wrong turn in our world (within the first 10-20 years after Einstein published General Relativity, and in the late 1800s for the historian profession) but that's a separate conversation

@@Restitutor_Orbis_214 What brought me to this show initially, and what BSG has now brought me back to is the Homeworld games. It's like the best of both worlds. The core story of BSG is there, but the civilization(s) they created in that game are very believable as far as technology and culture. They had a real archeologist help write the backstory and lore, and it shows. Very little focus on personas or drama, just a depiction of the struggle of an entire civilization. I hope we someday get a series out of it. I heard someone say, "well it's just a battlestar clone" but it is much more than that. @@jakeg3733 I played them and really enjoyed them. Homeworld came in 1999 well before the new BSG. Hopefully whoever said Homeworld was a BSG clone was referring to the original series from 1978. My personal preference is towards classic science fiction that challenges and inspires the human condition. I appreciated the original series for its creativity and the fact that the Colonials truly felt a civilization from another star system. The new series really just felt like our cotemporaneous society projected into space. I know Ronald D. Moore was going that direction and even said he didn't see it as a science fiction show. I truly enjoyed the first season of the new BSG when it came out and most of the second season. They depicted some great struggles and compelling stories. However, by the third season I noticed the tendency for very obvious tropes. After the finale I found the rewatch value for me was completely absent. I can still go back and watch the original series and enjoy it (Not the farce that was Galactica 1980). I believe it had a lot more creative potential. The AI is really bad with the modern BaseStar. I've the AI throw processing power into its fire control even after it's run out of missiles, or when all of its munitions already only shoot one at a time. BaseStars will also never launch their full fighter compliment at once, dispite it's massive fighter superiority. The AI also doesn't use the tactical jump in a creative manner. Ideally, you set this up in multi-player, but I think the BaseStar's might trounce a Mercury given that most players will be VERY familiar with her.

Didnt she at least VAPORIZE one of them in the series? Those main guns as seen in new caprica orbit ONESHOT a basestar or at least crippling it. And 2 Basestars v a FULL armed Mercury? Yep, not a fair battle for the toasters realy. That out the way.... since when does Deadlock have mod support? There where no Mercury's in it as far as i know (as their post first war warships build to basicaly ANNIHILATE anything as their bigger, stronger armored, heavier armed than the older COLUMBIA class like the Galactica (ofc. not the Columbia's BUILD version with 64 main gun batteries and at the very least 3x the AAA) With mods fixing some major stuff it could be worth revisiting it for me at least. Last i heard is that the license holders put slytherine in chains not wanting to have this game be moddable (thats also why the HW mod was still supperior in every way posible despite it being abandoned and old)

Yep the main guns do obliterate basestars in a salvo. Deadlock also doesn’t have mod support. The second cylon war era ships are from a DLC.

It’s on steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and switch. You can find it on any of those stores. The ships used here are from the modern ships DLC pack, which will cost you a little bit more.

I think in your strategy you failed to consider that your Point defense guns and Flak systems are mutually exclusive because the PD guns are what fires the Flak. your ship was only using its Battlestar Artillery against the Raiders, which isnt very effective.

Aren't most of the Battlestar's guns on the dorsal side? If so, why do you keep trying to put the ship above the cylons?
@StantonSpaceGamir
@StantonSpaceGamir 10 ай бұрын
Most of the guns are at the bow, and are on the underside (this is how deadlock designed its take on the mercury). Putting them above the basestars and dead ahead gives me an optimum firing angle and let’s the big guns quickly tear apart the enemy.

Let's be honest the Cylons never expected anyone to survive their nuclear holocaust. They didn't expect even a single civilian to survive nevermind two fully armed Battlestars.

Actually not quite. In the episode “The Plan”, Caprica 6 is informed upon resurrection that the attack succeeded beyond their wildest projections. The Cylons DID expect for some colonials today survive the immediate attack.

No, Pegasus is a great ship for offence but Galactica was far superior for defensive purposes which is what they needed, not an offensive beast but a defensive screen which frankly Galactica was far better at so yes sacrificing Pegasus for Galactica was in my opinion the best trade since the Pegasus was just not built for the defensive role but an offensive one
