It's a misconception that this video falls into. The fact that an animal is bigger and stronger doesn't make it more viable. It also needs to consistently hunt larger prey. Look at how easily birds make it and how larger birds are a lot rarer. Its competition would be quite fierce with the American lion, the short-faced bears and smilodons. I mean, if the phorusrhacids couldn't keep up, what makes you think utahraptor could? Deinonychus would also have to contend with the American cheetah and the dire wolves, but the competition would not be as harsh.

Honestly I think the nivoraptor is the most likely evo -- going bigger in the face of insanely intense competition from numerous pack hunters and megafauna doesn't seem like a winner, but going smaller, on the other hand, seems more likely. It's one thing to say "this is what it needs to do to survive" with your bigger examples, but your smaller example, by becoming an epic endurance overmatch for its prey items AND accounting for truly massive caloric-drain issues in the cold, answers "how" they survive to evolve.
@HoboBrute
@HoboBrute Ай бұрын
@@russmitchellmovement agreed, I k ow a lot of spec Evo is rule of cool, but you take any group of animals and add them to an environment where there's already a large number of well established mega fauna, unless they massively outclass local species in some categories, they're a lot more likely to bully smaller animals out of lower their niches than to suddenly get massive from out of nowhere

Foxes and coyotes are much more natural competition to raptors than big cats and bears. They're a lot closer size wise to them, and that's probably the niche they filled in the Mesozoic anyway
@anhthai7005
@anhthai7005 Ай бұрын
Probably unrelated but he did also neglect one major of the details of them being domesticated (likely because it’s an absolute nightmare to do so). Breeding. They seem to be a sort of middle ground between dogs and cats, aka they’re incredibly useful outside of being a novelty. I’d imagine that over the centuries humans would create several different breeds of nivoraptors for specific purposes. While there’s no real of telling what these breeds would look like or how many there will be, I can definitely see them eventually achieving status similar to dogs, maybe even becoming “man’s second best friend” or something. Though this might also lead to someone with too money being inspired by fossils of large carnivorous dinosaurs, throwing caution to the wind and creating the modern equivalent of an allosaurus or whatever else. Dinosaur mounts may become an actual thing this scenario.

I think a fun one would be "Could the Ikran or the Turok from Pandora survive the Dragon Archipelago from HTTYD". Specifically before the Vikings came. Given the Vikings temperament before Hiccup came along, I imagine the Vikings would Slaughter both populations before they could carve out a niche. Fun fact: the Australian cassowary possesses a sickle claw, which it uses to mark territory and, being a herbivore, dig up roots to eat. To defend itself, it will jump up to 2 metres in the air, lashing out with the sickle to slash the throat of anything that attacks it. Although positioned differently (it is at the back of the foot rather than held up at the front), the shape and size of the cassowary's sickle is similar to that of a dromeosaurid, suggesting a degree of convergent evolution. It is thus potentially likely the dromeosaurs used their sickles in a similar manner. All this to say, the martial arts using dinosaur spec evo is surprisingly likely.

Three thoughts on Lemmeni raptors: 1. They are perfect and beautiful and should be treasured by all. Excellent adaptations to their environment and to human socialisation. They're probably also big enough to stand a chance against feral house cats after European contact. Also I bet that once they moved into Siberia and the Sakhalin, the Japanese would breed a version where the male's red orbital colouration extends in a circle across the skull, because they do that in fish all the time. 2. In terms of adaptations, alongside having an impressive layer of down, I think they'd develop feathers on their wide footsies like owls, the better to soften their steps and keep them warm. Since many birds have evolved fuzzy feet, it's not a far-fetched idea. 3. No idea why keeping them as pets would be illegal in Russia when up until 2019, Russia allowed people to keep fishing cats, caracals, and bears as pets. But it's your worldbuilding so I'll keep quiet. Because I loved this video.

Honestly I don't think Utahraptors would do much better than the Deinonychus in the Ice Age initially. It's easy to see "Oooh big raptor" and think it would dominate the ecosystem but Utahraptors almost assuredly didn't live in groups beyond possibly mated pairs which is why they became so large and robust to begin with. So all the social predators even wolves would give them a very hard time and their higher caloric needs would put more pressure on them which while yes are stronger to take down things like Elk, Moose and Bison, they would easily outrun them. Utahraptor was an Apex Predator of its environment and likely would be too inflexible to survive if brought to the Ice Age.

This type of video was actually done by someone else- Utahraptor would actually survive and dominate pretty well. It was a feathered and large species (better for cold environments) and about as large as the cave bear, and its main prey were ceratopsians, ankylosaurids, and hadrosaurs, so mammoths would have a genuine threat now if found alone. While they wouldn't be perfectly suited for the environment, they would do a lot better than deinonychus. Of course, this is assuming that their behavior adapts as well- a big part of adaptation is behavior, and some things have trouble with that

Speed estimates place Utahraptor at 25-35 mph. Moose and bison run at exactly the highest estimate’s speed. A female bison or moose seems perfectly acheivable as a food source, particularly if the utahraptor managed to sneak up on and ambush the bison. Alot of dromaeosaurs are nocturnal after all.
@thenerdbeast7375
@thenerdbeast7375 Ай бұрын
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 You seem to forget a key thing with that speed estimate: stamina. While Utahraptor would have an efficient respiratory system, it is doubtful it could move such a robust body at such speeds beyond an initial sprint. Lions can move at almost cheetah speeds (50 mph) during their initial burst but they are still outran by most of the prey on the plains should the ambush fail.

Here's an idea for video that can fit in with your more fictional content (Deathclaws, T. Rex on Halo, etc.) which technically is the case for all of it, but still: Wargs from Peter Jackson's LOTR/ The Hobbit. They're not too outlandish, but still the two "breeds" in either trilogy seem dynamically interesting enough to consider putting them in any prehistoric era, where they neither stomp or get stomped in terms of survivability. Probably not, due to the extra oxygen. Their avian air sacs MIGHT allow them to survive a time period with less oxygen like the Permian though.

Most specifically: Mondstadt: Coasts and Swamps Liyue: Deserts and Oceans Inazuma: Freshwater and North America Sumeru: Ice Worlds Fontaine: Forests Natlan: Islands Sletzyana: Badlands (perhaps better to ignore as we have no idea how the region is like since it hasn’t come out yet. I'm throwing my bid for a new run with this idea in mind. Yutyrannus I know for a lot of the same reasons you didn't go with Utah Raptor are just amped up more for Yutyrannus. Even with that in mind, speculating on how it would do in its home turf during the ice age and how it would handle the land bridge situation would be incredibly fun and interesting. Loved the choice of deinonicus over the others though Because the spec Evo was gonna allow them to end up almost the same as the other choices anyway.

Buffalo and moose are really aggressive, they've been known to gore grizzlies. As many a tourist has found out the hard way. Their thick fur, robust build, and attitude make them quite dangerous opponents. Mammoths, like elephants, might be a bit too clever for dromaeosaurs. Like elephants, they probably had really good memories and held grudges, as many a lion well knows.

Glad you brought up the possibility of domestication, as I think that’s a very likely result of human interactions with dromeosaurs. I could see them being domesticated almost exactly like you speculated for the niveoraptor (or whatever it was called lol) and I think they would take a similar place alongside mankind as canids or felids though more likely similar to dogs than cats due to their presumed social nature and family oriented pack behavior. I expect they would even end up being bred for aesthetics or specific jobs much like modern dogs and would display a huge variety of sizes, shapes, and colors.

One thing not mentioned about the Nivoraptors is that with their smaller builds, they would likely be able to at least glide with their wings and tails. With their hands and claws they should be able to climb trees that they can leap from, this would also help them keep an eye out for predators.

With troodontids sometimes also being included as raptors due to being closely related to dromaeosaurs and having similar sickle-shaped claws,I wonder how well would Stenonychosaurus or Latenivenatrix adapt to life in the Pleistocene,seeing as they lived in colder environments further north in Canada.

A cool idea for a video would be a what-if scenario, in which the meteor did not wipe out all the dinosaurs, but enough to give the mammals a chance to kick off the Paleogene Period. It's basically a long speculative evolution video, but I think it would be an interesting one with a lot of possibilities. That or Could Allosaurus survive either Pandora or Middle Earth. Just some ideas.
