City planners say it is not likely, but isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Weird that the distance between the two cities doesn't automatically spark discussions of bullet trains or some other rapid mode of public transport. It seems like our thinking is so limited & outdated.

If it becomes a major metroplex, it will probably be called the Austin/San Antonio metro.

Yeah they're working on high speed rail between Dallas and Houston. Seems like one between San Antonio and Austin would be easy. Run it along 35 with stops in New Braunfels and San Marcos.

Please elaborate. The Spurs play some of their home games in Austin. SA has long been supportive of UT athletics. Their high schools compete against one another. It's no big deal to drive from one city to the other to attend some cultural event.

Wall off Austin and keep it confined. We don't need that seeping into the rest of Texas.

I think the proper saying would have to be Austin San Antonio because it just sounds right
@vincentrockel114921 күн бұрын
Not when people realize just how fake and unsustainable the infrastructure of the city and county is. San Antonio is a city in which a suburban road system has been installed in areas with high city population densities. Because the city and county have turned over road development duties to the corporate developers, the road system on the outer edges of the city consists of overtaxed county roads squeezed between developments with no thur traffic flow. This leads to extreme traffic all the time and a very inefficient traffic flow. Spending ones time stuck in traffic is not fun. Worse yet is that the city and county residents will probably be on the hook to repave the roads in those developments that benefit the public, not one bit. This is what corporate oligarchy looks like. No thanks, I can't wait to get out of this clown show.
@danbarron807215 күн бұрын
With a few possible minor exceptions (i.e. gated communities), this is how all cities in America do this. Things might be different in China, but I'm pretty sure developers are building the roads there as well. Roads utilities and infrastructure are installed at the expense of the private developer, who then deeds them to the governing body that will maintain these things. The increase in land value covers the cost via property taxes. What is ridiculous is when people who bought in older neighborhoods expect the government to provide them with amenities that were not included when their neighborhood was developed. (i.e. sidewalks)
