I love head canons like this! I can definitely see the SandWings being glassblowers. Some of my head canons are that the RainWings do a lot of weaving to make baskets and hammocks, which my main OCs sell to other tribes to make money. I also imagine that there are small groups of RainWings that butcher animals to create leather for pouches and such, but that they do it away from the main village, since most of the Tribe is grossed out by dead animals. I also recently came up with a head canon that the MudWings make a lot of delicious potato dishes.

This idea is so silly in a good way! I’ve never thought about that before, for the hivewings, I’d imagine they probably make glass in giant furnaces, or however humans do it because of course we can’t breathe fire. I’ve never thought about specialties a tribe can have but it does make sense like for pearl harvesting and I’d imagine most of the jewelry coming from seawing or skywings.

I just naturally assumed that the hivewings used the flamesilk prisoners as glassmakers (involuntarily) and maybe after the events of the series some silkwings might have started their own glassmaking business as a rare resource after the flamesilks were freed.

I think about the economic aspect of the WOF universe a lot XD I didn’t consider glass making as a major SandWing industry, but what u said does seem to make sense! Regarding how it was impacted by wars and conflicts, I think that as a non-military kind of product the Queens would’ve been willing to allow trade in such items to continue, unless they were feeling particularly spiteful

Yes I agree with this assessment! Although NightWings are also known for glassblowing. In Pantala, only dragons with access to flamesilk have glass, the LeafWings are explicitly stated to be unable to make glass. My real question is: in Darkstalker, the SeaWings had glass, despite it saying they never used fire. But yes, they must have traded for it.

I actually have a SandWing OC who does clay sculpting, and she knows an egotistical SeaWing animus who gave her one enchanted gift, she chose a ring that makes her clay dry at her command once she’s done so she doesn’t have to wait. I think glass blowing would be part of her skill set, too. As for how Pantala gets glass, if we treat flamesilk like ordinary flame breath I think there could be workarounds. Although it does remind me of my own dragon story I’m writing, in which between the 12 different breeds, they all provide something specific in a massive trading loop. The crystal dragons living underground provide gemstones, the butterfly dragons provide their silk to turn those gemstones into jewelry, the plant dragons provide various luxury foods like pastries and their ingredients and they cultivate a special bee/wasp that produces black honey used as ink, etc. I like to imagine Pyrrhia has a similar exchange, like the SkyWings provide iron from their probably mineral-rich mountains, and in this case the SandWings provide glass. One big ol’ trading cycle that takes advantage of each tribe’s unique territory and its resources

Alright, I've always seen these dragons as a art kind of culture as well and I think glass blowing would be Amazing!! Maybe what they do is get like Sky wings and rain wings to help with it since they can withstand the heat, like the sky wings help with the heat, and rain wings help with the colors and maybe put some actual feathers and flowers into the design? And I'm not on Pantala yet but I think that they can make fire with rocks since if you hit it together you can create sparks and they could've done that to make the fire and they could have used minerals like granite to make the glass? Idk I usually make stuff like this as well and u really enjoy the theories you make❤

This is actually something I have thought about a lot including why books haven’t been invented yet. Idk if this is retroactive history, but glass is only mentioned in pantala and in Legends Darkstalker. (Dragonslayer too but it’s used by humans so it doesn’t count) No mention of Pyrrhian glass or glassblowing exists. So that begs the question: has it just never come up before or has Pyrrhia gone technologically backward since Darkstalkers time? P.S. this also supports the Nightwinhs being the history keepers/scholars idea and supports the theory that their unexpected removal destroyed a lot of modern advancements made in Darkstalkers time. (Like books and Glass)

Here's my take on it: After the war of Sandwing succession + jade mountain academy, trade between the different trives would be a HUGE deal. SO. With that said. Think about the dragon powers. Anything particular that you think of. That right. Skywings. Their fire can heat up so much hotter than any other tribe! So yes, what I'm saying us that Sandwings would trade Skywings sand for...whatever they would trade, and then Skywings would be the ones to make glasswork! Now of course other tribes would be able to do this too, like Sandwings as you said, but I think Sandwings would be the main sand traders and Skywings the main glass traders.

I haven’t finished the video yet so I might have to come back and edit this but I think it’s highly likely that Sandwings make glass because they can easily heat the sand and they have an abundance of sand. It’s probably one of their only exports because there isn’t much besides cactus that grows in the desert and the sandwings obviously have a good economy so they are exporting something. Ok I just finished the video and I think Pantala probably made their glass using flame silk and got the sand from the beaches on the continent. It would make sense if glass was a much more expensive and coveted resource on Pantala and now that more and more sandwings are going to and from the continents glass is becoming a much more available resource. Lord have mercy this was a long comment.

I think the pantalans had glass only through flamesilk. I remember blue seeing the greenhouses around Wasp Hive for the first time and realizing just how much flamesilk was used for. I don't think the leafwings had any glass at all.

honestly, i am wondering if the tribes even itneracted much with each other before the war? i jsut finished book two but a thing i keep thinking about is that the seawing palaces are not accesible for any dragon but seawings, and the lil air passages in the summerpalaces entrance got build for princess blister soo this means before there was no way any other dragont ype could visit the seawing kingdom for maybe political stuff you know? if the tribes would do trade together, wouldnt their tribes in general be in contact, including royals discusing stuff like terms of how they work together,w hats allowed and whats not etc. what if one queen decided she dont want certain items being sold in her kingdom ?

On the point of wether other tribes have glass, I think (at least in my head cannon) that tribes that have fire like skywings and mudwings wouldn’t struggle to much, but they might lose access to finer glass products like glasses, and glass would become much more expensive, leading to poor families even selling the windowpanes(do dragons have windowpanes???) when times get tough. But tribes like seawings and icewings would struggle A LOT, icewings not the worst as they might be able to trade with their sandwing allies, but seawings would have it really bad. Wow that’s a lot of text, sorry lol.
