Taking the profit motive out of the healthcare equation would be the removal of one conflict of interest that makes American style healthcare the way it is. That would be revolutionary and wouldn't be violent.

Absolutely not. We don't need socialized medicine. We need affordable medicine. The state running medical care is the worst idea. Do people seriously want their politicians to be their doctors? Because that's what will happen. They will tie the Dr's hands, so that they can only do what they say and not what people need.

There’s been creeping privatisation in the UK NHS for decades now and the right are continually trying (and possibly succeeding due to our incredible stupidity in the UK) to convince the working class that it’s the model that somehow is broken despite working so well for so long; rather than the deliberate underfunding by successive governments. If we were to allow the NHS to be privatised, we’d probably beat the US in stupidity. To have the best system and voluntarily give it up would have to be worse than never having the good system to begin with.

Socialized medicine ends up being a system that is for healthly people and the people with health issues not getting treated. The reason is that, the system is not efficient, runs out of money and they start to cut. Once you hit a certain age you will not get a hip, or knee implant for example, you won't get a certain medication because of cuts. People with conditions like Pan Hypopituitarism, and others requiring various medications, will get very limited treatment. Finally, when the government really gets desparate they will start doing things like euthanasia (assisted suicide) like how that is now in Canada. A system like this sounds good but in the UK, and Canada they pay a lot in taxes for a system that just like we have continues to get cuts and leaves people stuck in a system that is not meeting their medical needs.
