It may be practically impossible for the US to be invaded by a foreign government, but the biggest threat is from within. When joining the military, you take an oath to defend against all enemies both foreign and domestic. Tunnelling would face at least 2 massive challenges: 1. A tunnel large enough to handle battle tanks and other mechanized units would be _massive_ . It would require the kind of boring machines would be easily detected at the start point. 2. Any such tunnelling and subsequent armor unit movement would set off seismic detectors.

Japan was the last country with a passing thought of invading the USA until their top general surmised that an Invasion would not be possible since there would be a sniper behind every blade of grass. 1. Terrain. The U.S. has many many areas that eliminate the efficiency or ability to deploy tanks, drones, heavy armored transports, and accurate bombing runs. Anyone saying how citizens with guns amount to nothing against chemical, biological, and armored warfare doesn't know anything about warfare and certainly hasn't experienced it. Have fun deploying chemicals in some of these states as heavy winds blow it away from enemies and onto friendly forces, for one of dozens of examples. The field of battle is going to be different and draining on invading troops not acclimated, can't simply train for jungle warfare and deploy to Vietnam. We have deserts, forests, mountains, swamps, artic winters and blistering summers. 2. Civilian forces. The small arms survey and surveys from pew research center estimate between 30%-50% of Americans own at least one gun. This translates to nearly 100 million people armed at worst and over 150 million people armed at best. This alone is dangerous but now factor in skill. There are roughly 1 million law enforcement in the country, trained to operate weapons. Since you need a license to hunt, we know there are also 15.2 million hunters in the country. Between the census bureau, pew research center, and VA we know there are over 18 million military veterans in the country as well. This all adds up to over 34 million armed "civillians" trained to utilize their owned weapons, give or take a couple million for overlap and exceptions. 3. All 50 states, D.C., and three territories have a National Guard. These forces are armed the same, as they are the same, as any of our active military forces. Access to intelligence, logistics, satellite, extensive and reinforced communications and administrative support. Access to tanks, aircraft (fixed and rotary), armored transports, barrier and quick FOB deployment, heavy weaponry and more. 4. We would see it coming. Before you deal with any of that you have to understand the military logistics of the world. We have military forces, if not outright bases, and at minimum embassies in just about every major country in the world. Our patrol of the oceans and skies are vast and our shared intelligence agencies both civilian and military are extensive. It isn't ego or exaggeration to state that any major offensive would be seen coming long before reaching the U.S. territories in any serious capacity. 5. Military and Ally forces. As we have seen from the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, Syrian civil war, Anti-Somali Pirate operations, Sierra Leone conflict, Gulf War and more, we have several allies that would be quick to come to our aid. Then there is the U.N. and NATO forces that would support us. Then give or take a hundred thousand or so for reserve, overseas, or casualty status, the U.S. has approximately half a million active duty troops not counting reserve and national guard already accounted for above. 6. Technological supremacy. Anyone who has participated in training or war games with us and tested us like North Korea and China has, understands that while other countries do employ military tools comparably to our own, such as Russia and China's gen 5 jets, there seems to be performance or in most cases, simply quality issues by comparison to our own which gives us an edge. Then obviously deployment of anything less is pointless. Example, a gen 4 stands no chance against a gen 5 jet.

I hope the russia ppl turn on putin at this point. So many of them hate him but he has so many ppl loyal to him that the ppl against him r too afraid to speak up or end up deceased/severely injured. An attack on him from an outside force, even a successful one, would probably not help the situation much. It needs to be a large group of russian citizens that stop him and his loyalists I think. Geography also helps the interior of the US as if anyone tries coming through alaska or canada they would freeze as the cold is so brutal that even fuel freezes. california invasion you hit the mountains and people get lost in the valleys constantly after that would be the unforgiving heat of the Mojave meaning you are stuck as your vehicles overheat constantly. you try from the east most people would be swallowed by the unending forests and the crazy roads even the tight waterways around NYC are a huge challenge. you would like hit mountain after mountain and get slowed over and over. its really hard to try. florida anyone trying would get bogged down in the swamps and they would just get destroyed by the native wildlife. you pretty much are screwed attempting invasion.

Some additional information for you: Us Americans are VERY passionate about our guns. In fact, there's more guns than people in America. So, you would have to worry about the armed American people who would defend the country. There is also a National Guard in each state, which would further complicate an invasion. You also asked if digging a tunnel would be any good. It will not. Most likely, the military will detect movement underground and will act accordingly. America was invaded in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II. In that game, America activates an EMP, allowing for a quick counterattack to lift the siege on DC. Canada and Mexico are out of the picture. Canada's Armed Forces are miniscule compared to the vast strength of the United States Armed Forces. Mexico has their own conflicts going on right now and they fought us in the past. It was a war we easily won. Mexico doesn't want a repeat of that.

@@pmpowalisz Tell that to the north Vietnamese that was able to hold onto their homeland and defend it. Guerilla worked for them, and Japan almost worked for them on many of the islands, if not for the nuclear bomb. Being on the opposite side of invasion you have a certain will to fight. Will to fight is the disposition and decision to fight, to keep fighting, and to win. I'm not saying citizens will be well equipped to fight against an armored division, but certainly can reek havoc. Again we have a giant population and the will to defend your homeland is much stronger than the will to take ones land. Also the romans were complete experts at military units and movement. There are at least 70 million gun owners in the US. Most of them are either hunters, veterans, or both. No small number of them are part of what's known as the reserve militia, and can be called into service to repel an invasion. An invasion tunnel would take DECADES just to dig. Then you would need to enlarge it, (think Chunnel). All that requires huge amounts of time and money. Then there are seismic sensors and a need to be deep enough but not too deep, (MAGMA IS REALLY HOT).

One thing they missed mentioning was Alaska. The Japanese managed to invade and to occupy a couple of islands there for a couple of years. The Russians could also do that since Siberia is close. The Russians would be more likely to use Cuba as a jumping off point on the East and Gulf coasts. Like your mama said, nothing is impossible. Now, being able to invade and actually win is a different thing. Yes, countries have secret plans to invade almost every country in the world. The US has a plan to invade Canada. I believe it used to be called "Plan Red".

"War Plan Red" was specifically a plan for war with the UK, but some editions of it did involve invading Canada (mostly to keep the Royal Navy from basing out of Newfoundland). ETA: If it seems strange that plans for a war with Britain included an invasion of Canada, recall that the "Color Plans" were a pre-WW2 thing and in those days Canada was not seen as being very independent.

To answer your "silly hypothetical": No, it is not feasible to build a tunnel to invade the US. The USGS is a government agency that monitors for earthquakes via tectonic acoustics. That same technology is what the US used to monitor when Soviet Russia was testing nuclear bombs. We've used similar technology to detect tsunamis (as they're caused by earthquakes), and they were sensitive enough to detect the sinking of K-129, a Soviet nuclear missile submarine. The US's network of hydrophones and tectonic acoustics were sensitive enough to calculate exactly where K-129 went down on the seafloor. It was partially recovered during Project Azorian where the Hughes-Glomar Explorer attempted to recover K-129, only for half of the sub to tear away and fall back into the deep. After every piece of the recovered portion was studied and catalogued, the US government notified the Soviet Union that we had recovered K-129 and learned everything we needed from the recovered vessel, forcing the Soviet Union to completely review and overhaul their navy, hastening their bankruptcy and eventual downfall.

Hi, Diane! Recently started watching your videos, and have been enjoying them. As a US Navy veteran, this video grabbed my attention. I agree with your reservations about using absolute terms like invulnerable and impossible. We are the dominant world military power for the reasons stated in the video, but that doesn’t mean that nothing can go wrong. It could happen that our military could be spread too thin around the world, making us more vulnerable to invasion. Not a likely scenario, but possible. Especially if the goal is to achieve political ends, as opposed to trying to conquer outright. Not that I’m losing any sleep over it, but I don’t think it’s impossible.
@Spectre-wd9dl
@Spectre-wd9dl Жыл бұрын
Everyone in the US would have to be asleep. There's no way you're moving hundreds of thousand troops halfway around the world without the US noticing. Not to mention there isn't the capacity to do so. At best they'd have to use bulk cargo ship which are slow and completely defenseless. It's realisticly impossible to invade the US in any meaningful way. The only way you can make the argument is to hamstring the US in multiple unrealistic ways. The US could defend itself against its entire combined military power plus that of the world. Thus has already been tested and war gamed in simulation.

Diane, there are more guns in the US than there are citizens. There isn't a military on this planet that could pull off an invasion of the US mainland. If any military even tried, first of all, they'd be spotted gathering for said invasion weeks, if not months ahead of time. Second, (while this statement has been credited, possibly wrongly, to a specific military person) "There would be a gun behind every blade of grass". Between the military forces stationed here, the state "National Guard" units, gangs of all kinds, "Militia Groups", Police & SWAT units, and every law abiding citizen of age with at least one firearm, they don't stand a chance.

No tunnel could be built large enough to bring in even a tiny invasion force. And tunneling would only be feasible from Canada or Mexico, Assuming one or both of those countries forgot that they are by far our two biggest trading partners, it would be impossible get a large number of troops, arms and equipment into a concentrated area without the U.S. detecting it. Also, the main driver behind Mexico's recent burgeoning economy is U.S. investment in Mexican production facilities. Also, I understand from friends in Canada that their country would never under any circumstances give up having the U.S. to rag on.

A tunnel would NOT be practical. First, the time involved would be unrealistic, like DECADES. Second, the pressure would make an invasion impossible as the tunnels would be more than a mile deep The pressure at that depth would require pressurized transportation. 14 pounds per square inch at Sea level, increasing every 30 feet. 5280/30= 176 atmospheres. That, plus moving throu solid rock would make it virtually impossible. The deepest we have gone, so far, is a quarter of a mile. So this is VERY UNLIKELY. Not really impossible, just HIGHLY IMPROBABLE. Have a GREAT WEEK with Chewey.

There are other compounding difficulties for invading the US. First is the fact that you would need to somehow beat the us navy which would be extremely difficult. Then you would need to actually land, which as the video showed, also extremely difficult. Then you would need to fight off the army and the state’s national guards, again quite difficult. Then you would be hounded by guerrilla fighters who are all heavily armed given the fact that there are more guns than people in America and American citizens would have the home field advantage. Then add in the fact that America has so many different geological areas that you would need to equip your troops to fight in everything from swamps to deserts to mountain ranges. And that’s ignoring the American economy which can produce ludicrous amounts of equipment and the usage of nuclear armaments. And most importantly, this whole time, all of americas friends are ganging up on you as well. The US is a hard nut to crack and the best way to destroy us is culturally and ideologically rather than through a military conflict.
