The warranty and the price overall on the new MG's are fantastic for what you get, yeah a 5 speed in this day and age is something you'd expect in a small city car like a fiat 500 or c1 not a small practical family suv. I’ve seen lots of these on the roads since driving one! Agree with you that it’s almost got a Jaguar nose! Not sure what the 1ltr is like compared to the 1.5 but the dealer has already said they're sourcing an ev for me to compare so that will be interesting. We are away for the week and on the journey from Scarborough to Norfolk we saw loads.

Good review. We bought one here in Australia a few months ago, a few variations in the specifications, but they are even cheaper here. We paid the equivalent of just over £12000 for our ZS Excite 1.5 automatic, registered on the road. Fantastic value. One thing worth noting on that 1.5 litre engine. They are very tight when new and free up substantially with some running. We have just over 2000km on it now and it performs much better than when we first drove it. Cheers.

Almost a different car to drive. MGs are certainly great value here, the brand is now No.10 in sales from next to nothing three years ago. 7 year unlimited kilometre warranty with roadside assistance included helps, too. Cheers.

I have the Zs , very impressed with mine , only bad thing for me personally is I can just fit a folded wheel chair , But great value for money , mine had 240 miles on the clock with 2 grand discount from new price , carnt beat that anywhere

I bought a 21 plate exclusive in black. Agree with your review. One thing which is temperamental is the screen. Have had occassions where it totally blacks out then reloads and comes back on. Seems to be a common problem

Hopefully their maybe a resolve to this in the not too distant future as I recon that could be quite annoying. The demonstrator I had for the afternoon didn't seem to have any issues whilst on test but when I had the HS Demonstrator, the electric boot close was intermittent and would work 3 maybe 4 times out of 5, seems like a common problem since my test with it for others also. Thanks for the review. I have today purchased the automatic version of this wonderful little car here in Thailand. You certainly get a lot for your money! Over here we only get a 4 year Warantee strangely as the car is made here. I don't know about UK but here even the top of the range model comes without a spare wheel! This is because there is a button on the screen which gives 24/7 MG breakdown coverage for life! (Not sure whether that is for my life, or the car's) Amazing Thailand! :-)

That is a good notice, I'm not sure if this one I had did have a spare wheel or not. I am with the dealer on Friday so I will have a look and let you know. the 24/7 breakdown sounds great, here in the UK the new MG's come with a 7yr warranty. The auto is better, it was strange in the manual and especially with it only being 5 speeds. Which engine did you opt for? the 1.0ltr or the 1.5? the 1ltr turbo is the better engine between the 2. @@pittmotoring They only do the 1.5 engine in the top of the range automatic X+ model. Also, they only do Arctic White, Metallic Silver, Scarlet Red and Black Knight colours, not that nice blue that you have. It comes with 17" wheels and a sun roof and cruise control. The D+ version without sun roof has no 360 degree cameras, same 1.5 litre engine, no tyre pressure monitor, and 16" wheels. There appears to be no manual version. This may interest you too, from a report dated last year at Bangkok Motor Show: "Under the hood, a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four continues to power the 2021 ZS. It produces 114 PS at 6000 rpm, along with 150 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. Gone is the old four-speed automatic as it has been replaced by a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an eight-speed manual mode. There was no mention of a manual transmission for the Thai-spec ZS. This is in stark contrast to the Euro-spec ZS, which isn't available with a CVT or an automatic yet"

There isn’t currently a mk2 facelift MG EV available just yet but I hear this could be out Q3 of ‘21 with a 71kWh battery or 250 mile range. If you do not need this additional range then the 44.5 kWh mk1 version that I own is a cracking car and will offer 150 miles in summer and 120 in winter. Great car!

Wrong but this is my opinion. The big mistake people make about this car is thinking they need more power and thinking the turbo version is the way to go. Mistake here is the turbo forces you to pump the premium 95 Ron while the 1.5 uses 91 regular.

Thanks, from what I remember the clutch wasn't hard as in stiff but it wasn't soft so would say medium.

Hi Eddie great review thanks for the insight!. My partner and I have just purchased this exact model in black. Love the review, a question for you when you say the 1.5 engine is gutless it worries us a little. Could you shed some more light on this, is it so bad it couldn't pull you out of bed or is it good enough to get you around day to day and get you upto speed quick enough on motorways etc?

Hi Michael, I'm glad you found the review insightful. The 1.5 isn't the most torquey or powerful. The 1ltr is the better choice with more torque. For day to day it is ok, it will get you from a to b without an issue and I'm sure it is fine getting upto motorway speeds.

You didn't mention one feature that is only found in the new Skoda and that is the usb port on the drivers rear view mirror for a dashcam to be plugged into. Other than that a great review.

Also can it come with a sat nav or is that the next size up? Plus is it possible to add a bull bar and tow bar onto the car? Thanks 😊

I could be wrong but I think it is the ZS EV which has the rear armrest with cupholders but it could be something that MG have added in to newer models. The Exclusive model comes with a SatNav. You can get a Tow Bar for the ZS but I'm not sure about Bull Bars. Not sure if it maybe different in Aus, but I've not seen it here in the UK. I can confirm the lecky version has hellfire performance (it's amusing burning up badge snobs at the traffic lights, as it is not immediately obvious it is an EV). The interior of the petrol version is a bit more refined though. Would be interested to see what you make of the EV..

It is the torque produced by the electric motors isn't it, that's got me interested now as I thought that the interiors would be the same in the Petrol versions and the EV. My local MG dealer I'm currently partnered with have had super high demand for test drive of the ZS EV over the last month or 2 so I've not had chance to take one out to review as of yet. I bought an 1-5 petrol exclusive nice drive looks great, really pleased . Until I opened side windows and they in my opinion I’ll fitting. They rock too and fro. Took I back to franchise. There comments . Quote . They are loose aren’t they , it’s a design problem, it’s a characteristic of the car. It won’t fall out. If I replaced them they will be the same . They not adjustable. M G won’t respond I’ve been hitting a brick wall since probably around August 2021 . Still no joy. Bought it new June 2021.

Does the MG ZS in UK come with a full size spare wheel ? In the brochure there is no mention of spare wheel and it mentions a "Tyre Repair Kit" instead.

I couldn't find much online as I am not sure myself but I have been in touch with my local MG dealership who loaned me this ZS for the purpose of the review and they have confirmed it is a tyre inflation kit/repair kit that is included.

Spare wheel is available as an optional accessory. £250, (I think). It includes the Jack and brace etc. We get ours in 4 Weeks or so. (Mid November) Currently on a slow boat from China. have ordered the spare wheel

This car has been just launched in India too. Here we have 1.3L turbo charged engine and 1.5L NA engine shown in this videos. Can you tell which engine shall I opt for? We will have most usage out on the highway.

From what I have read online as the 1.3L Turbo isn't available here in the UK. The 1.3L turbo is the better engine option all round than the 1.5L, I found it under powered, sluggish. The 1.3L Turbo has better performance and economy. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

@@razerrazer8242 Hey, I have got the MG ZS brochure for the UK and it mentions a fuel economy of 6.6-7.2L per 100km. So it should translate to 14-15kmpl for India. Also the kerb weight of the car is on the higher side 1231kg for the base variant 1.5.

I don't think the 1.3 turbo will not necessarily have better efficiency than the 1.5NA. It will depend on driving style. Moreover the turbo comes only paired to a 6 speed AT so that reduces the mileage a bit more. But surely performance would be very much better for the same fuel economy.

Nice review. The 1.5 is very disappointing. As you said no torque. You have to work the gears. Recently test drove the 1.0 manual. Nice engine. Makes the car complete. With 7 year warranty and 0% PCP finance, it's our next car.

the warranty and finance deals are great aren't they. I'm yet to test the EV ZS hopefully soon, from chatting with the staff at the MG dealer I've been working with they are a good system. The specs are similar between them but the 1.0 is a better engine all round. Great to hear, I think they have passed the old vision of reliability issues and elderly rover esk images. PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! Worst purchase I have ever made. The fuel consumption is atrocious, so what you might save on the upfront cost of the car, you are going to more than make up for with running costs. I traded in a lovely VW golf thinking I would be saving myself money as the finance payments were attractively low. Oh how wrong was I. I was getting between 15-22mpg out of my zs and having to fill up every 5-7 days (normally I fill up roughly twice a month!). I thought there must be an issue with it or a fuel leak or something so I took it to the service centre only to be told there's nothing wrong with the car, that's just how it is. "These cars do use a lot of fuel you know" 🙄. The technician told me it's my own fault the mpg was low because I use the air conditioning!! First of all, in this day and age, who tf isn't using their air con and secondly, yes air con impacts your fuel economy, but it shouldn't cut it in half! Their customer service has overall been shocking as well so all around horrendous experience. I swiftly got rid of the zs and I'm driving a VW T-cross now which I am only filling up on my usual twice a month schedule, (even using the air con!) 👍 I would also like to add that the automatic gearbox on the zs is terrible, takes forever to change up a gear and switches back down way too readily. Even in manual mode it's really annoying to drive and doesn't actually let you change gear when you want to so it's kind of a pointless feature. The build quality is also really poor. I found I had lots of niggly rattles and squeaks as I was driving. The door pillars are wrapped in a weird vinyl and you can see the really obvious seams. You only have a one touch electric window on the front drivers side and nowhere else. Speakers are dreadful, probably the worst I have ever experienced in a car. God help you if you listen to the radio because even on DAB all the stations sound like old fashioned AM radio! The infotainment system is also really laggy and a horrible user experience. Adjusting the fan and air con settings is unnecessarily difficult and you gave these up and down clicky buttons that you gave to repeatedly press rather than a dial, so enjoy your RSI 👍 I could rant about how crap this car is all day so I think I'll stop there 😆 but moral of the story is save yourself the bother and get something better!! THIS CAR IS CHEAP FOR A REASON!

They won’t admit they have a problem it’s a characteristic of the vehicle. Please tell me is there anyone out there that can review the windows when partly open. Come on don’t let me down. Give it a go all you MG ZS owners, I will not accept this cannot be adjusted /rectified. If anyone tells me they won’t fall out. It has a very strong resemblance doesn't it. The newer Facelifted ZS has more of its own look to it. Similar with the HS too, that had a very similar look to the Jag F Pace (think its the F pace).

Very bad car for european roads. Too slow, too unresponsive, almost zero drive flexibility - accelerration 80-120 in more than 13 seconds only with driver, with full load more than 15 seconds - it is insanely long and dangerous in dense traffic.
