@LockerNuts Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is sad. But just as I've replied on other posts regarding this, the office doesn't accept those kind of items back unless the owner is in contact and specifically asked for them. Without that request, they only take photos, paperwork with social security #s, drivers license, passport, birth certificates, etc. We never contact prior owners directly for security reasons.

Jack, if you are leaving personal items at the office for the previous owner, please consider including envelopes or bags of hair with those items. It’s usually the hair of a deceased loved one. In fact, in the Victorian era, the hair of a deceased loved one was often incorporated into a piece of jewelry. Sounds creepy but it’s true.
@I_am_me8560 Жыл бұрын
That’s true of the Victorian era, but as a mom of 4, I would keep a lock of hair after my babies first haircuts! Makes more sense of finding it in a trunk of baby keepsakes than something creepy!

Jack, one thing that I don't understand is that when you started going through that trunk you said you were giving some paperwork back to the owner but then while cleaning out the rest of the trunk you threw out a lot of personal items that if it were me, I would have given back to the previous owner as well, such as the cards, the child's drawings and baby shoes, etc. I don't begrudge anyone keeping the trunk that the items were stored in or the baby blankets and other sellable items, but the items you tossed would have been precious keepsakes to the person who had held onto them & getting them back if at all possible would have been a blessing to their owner IMHO. Just my opinion, at least if you bundled them all up in a box and gave them to the facility to give back to their owner, at least you could say that you tried to give them back!
@LockerNuts Жыл бұрын
Good question. I would rather give all that kind of stuff back to the office, as they fetch very little money at the flea market, and often cost me to dispose of afterwards. But the facility management is very picky about what we give them, and they ask only for photos, important paperwork (such as court documents or anything with social security numbers), passports, birth certificates, etc. It's kind of understandable, as they don't want to get saddled with a lot of items that they then need to store and handle. The last locker I bought, I separated all this stuff, which fit in one box, and brought it to the office, but they refused to take it. I was like "Really? There are a lot of photos from the lady's youth and college years" but they wouldn't budge. If we start adding baby shoes and blankets and that kind of stuff, the management may be more likely to refuse it. I think the circumstances would be different if the owner was in contact with the office and requested those types of items, in which case the management would let me know. That does happen sometimes, but it's not all that common. Believe it or not, the majority of the time (vast majority, from what I've been told), the owner never picks up the box of personal stuff, and it winds up getting disposed of a month or two later.
@I_am_me8560 Жыл бұрын
@@LockerNuts , thanks for the reply Jack! Usually a mom saves a lock of hair from their baby's first hair cut, so being a mom I kind of freaked when I saw you tossing them out! I know in 50 years no one will remember whose hair it is, but I know that at least while I'm alive, it would be cherished by me! LOL But on the other hand, I'd never put my most cherished items in a storage unit! We did get a unit with owned previously by a semi famous actress and it had all her banking info with her social security and credit card info on it! I tried to give it all back to the office and they told me that they had no current contact info for her. If I were a shady individual I could have had a field day but I didn't even feel comfortable throwing it in the garbage and getting into the wrong hands, so it was all burned in our fire pit! I just wondered how and why you dealt with items that were more keepsakes than personal info, thanks for letting me know! 👍

I would love to see a sold video. I realize that you won't remember a lot of the prices, but it would be nice to see how much total profit you make on a locker. Also, did you happen to list the saw horses on marketplace.

Buying storage units makes you a hard MF'er. As I watch you toss their childhood in the trash, couldn't help but cringe. I get it. If they really cared they would have found a way to pay...but man that was hard seeing some of that stuff go in the trash. You did a great job turning back in some stuff, so no judgement. I want to get into this business, and it is very informative to see that I need to make some hard choices...I can't return everything. That chest was hard to watch.
