Nic, the non-subscription option for Tunecore is NOT a ‘one time fee’. It has a yearly renewal fee PER album. The subscription option is superior at between $14.99 to $49.99 per year for Unlimited releases.

Ahhh I understand! Thanks for the clarification. In that case yeh the subscription model would be better for sure!

What distributor do you personally use ?

Definitely the best in my opinion. Tunecore for originals (with or without splits). Soundrop for covers (with or without splits).

How does TuneCore handle mechanical licenses? Do they include mechanical licenses for cover songs?

Can you agree with your producer/musicians how many percent you have to pay them? Or can you not pay them at all? My daughter is recording with a producer/musician. I'm paying him per song. Is he still entitled to any royalties? He hasn't brought it up and I'm not offering!
@nicrollo Жыл бұрын
Hey! This is a tricky subject as it's pretty case by case. I would say, if there's been no agreement for master royalty % (so % of revenue made by things like streaming, cd sales etc) then you don't have to give your producer any. These things should be negotiated before starting work. If your daughter wrote the song WITH the producer, so perhaps she wrote lyrics/melodies to the producers chord progressions, then they are technically entitled to 50% of the songwriting. Although again, if there's been no agreement made on % (which there should be) I don't think it's a problem. Paying the producer $$ is compensation. In future I'd probably just have the discussion and clear it so you don't have to think about it in the future... hope this was helpful!

@@nicrollo It was. Thanks for reply. My daughter writes the song. She will go in the studio, play it on Ukuelele and sing so he has it recoreded and then will add guitar/drums etc then she will then add the master vocals and/or more ukuele if required.
