It's interesting how farm life changes over the years. So many things that were once a major part get slimmed down or eliminated as we find other things are more profitable one way or another. Old things get re purposed for something else. And space is made for new ideas entirely. We're 13 years on our place, and i hope to someday have everything running smoothly and self sufficiently. It's such a satisfying long term project, if feels like people were made to manage land like this.

100% we are constantly changing and adapting. We were so incredibly naive when we arrived. Learning all the time. I honestly think it takes many lifetimes to become a good farmer. Which is exactly why this industry is dominated by tradition and farmers are very conservative - they do what their grandparent do. The problem is that the world and economy is changing faster that our traditions now.

The worms have definitely been a great source of supplementary protein for our ducks, but I've not yet transitioned entirely over to worms and away from purchased feed. Mainly because I've not yet got my head around the logistics of it. Still learning! Watch this space

I like your approach - have you considered breeding tadpoles to feed your ducks? - Ducks love tadpoles, and they are very easy to breed.

@@parccarreg - When I was a kid I had tadpoles in a pond, and on the way home from school I found an injured duck. I took it home and fed it tadpoles which it really enjoyed. - I am in SA atm but hoping to be in the UK this month, - hope to find a place in Wales in 2025. Gonna start with a large veg garden and build up from there. Will continue following your adventures.
