Frankly ancestry DNA is pretty inaccurate to begin with. In about 20 years it'll be a lot better when all these companies compile their data but for now I wouldn't base your identity on a DNA test. It's interesting and you might learn something but it's definitely not 100% accurate.

@rosbaldiston79795 жыл бұрын
@@AshleeKnowsNot Ancestry DNA is VERY accurate especially if you have European ancestry. Ever since the last update in September or something last year, it has been THE most accurate and detailed in regions. Also gender doesn't matter for AncestryDNA. Ancestry DNA also has the most references to find your ethnicity. My GG Grandfather was Norwegian and what did it come up as? 6% Norwegian which is the average for a GG Grandparent. 2 of my grandparents were known to be English, and hey I got 49% English. Then Lastly, I got 45% Irish which makes sense when my other 2 grandparents were (1 full) and (1 mostly full). I also got extra regions in Ireland like West Beara Peninsula, Beara Peninsula, South West Munster, etc. Where my Irish ancestors had lived by. My heritage was so bad it had 21% Scandanavian, 14 English, 63 Irish and then the rest was Turkey and Caucasus.
@Voyager25255 жыл бұрын
Depends on how accurate you want to get. A chimeral person is still made of cells from related individuals (siblings), so if you are asking if a person is your mother/father, it can give you errors (like in the case in the video), but if you are asking what your ethnicity/race is, you will still get the correct answer.

I have two (slightly genetically different) spleens !!!! Also my left testicle has slightly different DNA to my right (strangely, all three of my children are matches for the right, not the left 🤔). 😅😂🤣
@koolpebbleАй бұрын
You mean you absorbed your fraternal twin? If you had an identical twin, your twin and you would have the exact same DNA. So DNA tests of any of your organs would, therefore, result in one DNA--not two. Therefore, you wouldn't even know that you were/are a chimera because there wouldn't be different DNA's to indicate so.

Mom would swear she felt like she had twins and was surprised when only I came out. It's interesting that it's possible to slip past the visible effects of chimerism. Really makes me think, and I'm damn near an identical twin to my mother, except I have hazel/honey brown dominate eyes while my mother's range from sea blue, sea green, lime green, amber, to steel grey. I swear her eyes have been the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my 23 years. I could never forget how many times I've been told by strangers her and I are sisters, there is no way she's my mother. I was bullied in school b/c nobody believed she was my mom! The only clues I had before finding this out were two things: My blood tests always came up with two blood types (apparently this sample got contaminated also, we can't figure it out mr. x). Two, when I went to get a vasectomy, i didn't have two vas deferens. When he opened me up to make sure there was not one on that side, he found one ovoteste instead of a teste. Other things were hints but subtle, like white lines along my skin in some places. I thought they were scars from cuts that healed.

My left boob is a full cup size bigger, when I put my hands up against each other there's a good millimetre or two in difference, one leg is longer - enough to effect me when I swim, one foot is half a shoe size bigger, there are certain expressions type things I can only do on the left side of my face, etc. Also I have a large build, I develop muscle as easily as a guy does, and I have a little bit of facial hair even...... Also fraternal twins run in the family. Two of my cousins are fraternal twins in fact. So........ I just wonder sometimes. I have no idea how to go about getting tested tho.

I wonder if you could do a followup on chimerism focusing on neuroplasticity, the malleability of DNA and other major biophysical mechanisms of change that can lead to conscious (or at least affective) positive systemic change?

I would disagree to describing anyone who is chimera as two different people. It's still just one person, but with two different building instructions.

This raises interesting ethical questions in the abortion debate (and contraception). Learning this impacts some fundamental assumptions of when a person is a person. Conservatively, many believe that the only obvious instant when there is a new "person" is at conception. For religious people, that would mean that the living being (a zygote at that point) at this instant is imbued with a soul. But, the example in the video of the tetragametic chimera throws a wrench in that theory. 2 fertilized "sibling" zygotes joining into one? Does this new "person" have 2 souls? Super interesting topic. Thanks for the great video!

WOOAAAAH guys. Hear me out. When I was a baby, doctors told my parents that I must’ve been switched at birth or something and they were super confused about my blood tests. I have one eye that’s hazel and one that’s completely green. I have a ton of autoimmune complications.... am I a chimera?
@besmart5 жыл бұрын
You might be! Those are symptoms often seen in chimeras. But consult a doctor to be sure.

I was born with a intersex condition that over the years I’ve come to suspect I could be chimera. My right testis was under developed and was in fact ovotestis. As a child I needed several surgeries and as an adult I developed stage three ovarian cancer. My DNA is male. My other testis was normal but never matured to normal adult size. I have always seen myself as both male and female while living day to day as a male. I have also married and we manage to produce two children over a number of years of trying. I would not recommend having a body like mine as of last year I’ve had 28 surgeries

My DNA proved my chimerism. A few doctors suspected it and now my health oddities and concerns make sense. Twins run in my family and I had two sets of them myself. I'm glad I'm not as strange as I thought.

May I ask how to get good medical dna testing? I'm curious about myself, whether I'm a chimera and it might explain weird symptoms and traits I have, but I don't know where to get tested.
@christadawnwheeler2696 Жыл бұрын
@sclark223 I was first tested by doctors in a health study. Then had ancestral dna done too. Mitochondrial and autosomal. Then another doctor did another dna test involving a health concern. It wasn't just one test. It was multiple sources.

I thought it was odd when a surgeon came to me after a surgery to tell me certain organs were backwards! Then another doctor asked if twins run in my family. And another. Finally I started getting answers.
