Do you have it takes to become a Roman Politician? At the end of the Republic, politics was THE game, and the stakes had never been higher. There were many ways onto the ladder - the cursus honorum - but it was easier for some than others.
Are you a member of the aristocracy? Are you worth millions? Are you even from Rome? If the answer to any of the above was no, then don't give up just yet! Even the lowliest of plebeians, and foreigners too, could, with a bit of luck and a lot of effort, make it to the first major senatorial position - quaestor.
Come along for a step-by-step guide to overcoming the odds and meeting each of the pre-requisites for the quaestorship in 70 BCE at the youngest possible time. Getting citizenship, joining the army, becoming a military tribune and minor magistrate and finally, getting the vote to Quaestor - all is covered!
And if you're Romulus incarnate, a true hero of ancient Rome, then you might even just make it to the consulship...

Thank you! And I think that was true of the Imperial Age, everything changed after Augustus... From what I could tell, in the Late Republic anyone of Equestrian and above could reach senator. Patricians were so by right of birth and had certain privileges even on the cursus honorum, being able to make ranks two years earlier, running for Curule Aedile rather than Plebeian Aedile, etc.
