MERCY!! Dead Presidents is one of my favorite movies. Fun fact: The disemboweled Marine was played by Michael Imperioli. He was also in Lean On Me, Good Fellas, Bad Boys, Girl 6 & Law & Order.

It's amazing that I watched this movie for over TWENTY YEARS and never realized that that was suppose to be his private parts, until I watched one of these videos. I just thought it was suppose to be a piece of his intestines. None of the characters SAY what it is and the edit is so quick it's hard to pick up on that fact. I'm thinking that was done on purpose by the STUDIO to downplay the true nature of what was suppose to have happened for the ratings system to get an R rating and not an NC 17 but that really went right over my head all of these years. 🎥

One of my favorites movies. No i would not want to come home without my private body parts. Seen this at 15 years old and 1st time i seen that done to someone on film it was brutal. Anthony was a real one comforting the 2 soilders that passed away in front of him. I would have asked him to do the same for me as long as he stayed with me I'd be scared. Also never thought about why Skip was alone after the war until now. I think the war messed up Anthony, Joe, and Skip, and had too many problems to live an ordinary life they wanted. Even Cleon seemed to be faking it just to make it being a preacher when he was nothing but a hardcore killer lol.

Yes, Skip became a junkie but is there something to be said with the narrative when Anthony first comes back and meets up with Skip and Skip says, "something got into me, and it ain't the heroin". Could that be an insight about all the agent orange that ended up causing damage but... Since Skip was a junkie to begin with... How do we know?

Another great question. I remember that scene as well and wondering what they were eluding to. To your point, there is certainly something to be said about what our soldiers endured during 'Nam and exposure to agent orange is one. Agent Orange is linked to bunch of different cancers, lymphomas, and tumors. This could be what Skip is referring to, seeing as how Dr's wouldn't have even known to look for these symptoms during the time referenced in the movie. Many of these effects weren't accepted into standard medical awareness until years later. But thats also my hesitation in thinking Skip is developing a cancer so soon after being exposed. As a chid, the lasting impression I got of this scene was that they were maybe pointing to an STD or other type of disease that he may have picked up either through lifestyle or being in the Jungle. I would be interested in what 'Nam survivors thought of this scene and what was being referred to.

You're talking about one of my favorite movies again! That part of Dead Presidents was always unsettling to watch. D'Amb rosio's internal organs were protruding out of his body and his male member was in his mouth. I honestly don't think I could live like that. D'Ambrosio didn't want to live in that condition, which was why he asked Anthony to euthanize him. My question is: Could he function normally even if he survived such a horrific injury? Would it be medically possible to reattach his male member?

Great question. In today's world of advanced medicine, it is in fact possible to reattach a severed genitalia with the hope that most functioning is restored. Depending on how clean the cut, how long its been detached and the baseline cardiovascular health of the patient, a number of complications can arise. That could be it has less sensation, has erectile disfunction, and worst of all, issues with urination. This is a different case than in the 70's. I did a quick search based on your question and found the first reported successful penile reattachment wasn't until mid 1970s. So this injury in this setting and at this time would have left him no options. Worst of all that I didn't mention in the video is the high risk of infection that may likely kill him in the next days-weeks. Flesh eating infections of the pelvic region are some of the worst known to medicine.
