Just love it (in a childish way) that in Kiwi pronunciation The Shetlands sounds like The Shitlands.

Thing I learnt recently: the colonisation of the Canary Islands was the first example of European colonialism (subjugating/genociding the population and encouraging migration/slavery to work on plantations) and was what Columbus referred to when he returned in order to portray his trip as a win/worthwhile

and after the Monserrat volcano erupted they did a charity gig in the Royal Albert Hall. There were quite a few recoding studios there and all the big artists recorded there... for tax reasons.

Fernando de Noronha is a beautiful island off the coast of Brazil (google some pics, it’s amazing!) . Hint: whenever you see “nh” or “lh” in a name, that’s Portuguese and not Spanish. This should help you narrow down some locations
@minamagdy412611 ай бұрын
Apparently, Galician also has this feature. Then again, it's one province of Spain vs a bunch of Portuguese and post-Portuguese areas
@rafarafa289211 ай бұрын
Galicia use ñ and ll instead nh and lh@@minamagdy4126
@MaikonGarcia3 ай бұрын
@@minamagdy4126 If I remember correctly the official form is still similar to spanish, lh and nh are just attempts of bringing Galician closer to Portuguese, returning to the natural evolutionary process of the language without interference from the Spanish crown/government.

Franz Joseph Land, Juan Fernández Islands, and Desventuradas Islands Franz Joseph Land is the big-looking archipelago, east of Svalbard, and north of Novaya Zemlya (the long, curved pair of Severny Island and Yuzhny Island). Franz Joseph Land and Novaya Zemlya are part of the Akhangelsk Oblast. The next major archipelago to the east Severnaya Zemlya, which was not on the quiz and I didn't know until this moment. I had heard of October Revolution and Bolshevik Islands, which are two of the bigger islands of Severnaya Zemlya. I'm sure I've heard of Severnaya Zemlya, too, but I don't recall the name. The Juan Fernández Islands are the southern ones in the quiz along the coast of Chile. They're most known for being where Alexander Selkirk was marooned for more than four years. He was the likely inspiration for Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. Its three main islands are Robinson Crusoe, Alejandro Selkirk, and Santa Clara. They're best known to me as the home of the Juan Fernández tit-tyrant. I'm not a birder, but I'm not immune to the odd tit-tyrant joke. The ones north of the Juan Fernández, on the same latitude with Rapa Nui are the Desventuradas Islands. I was unfamiliar with those until I looked it up just now. You had a couple dozen more than me, more than half of which was due to NZ and Australia. You also did better than me at Antarctic claims. I did not make that up with superior US knowledge. I was pleasantly surprised that I only missed one country in Oceania.

Got me four tries (and maybe some study) to reach 358/358. But only 300 on time, the others didn't count for the leaderboard. Thanks for this video, one of my favourites, and for the challenge. It has been so fun. Please come back soon. Greetings from your antipodes, from Spain.

it's so strange that they put Sicily and Sardinia in the quiz, they have a special regional status in Italy, but others regions in the mainland have it too
@Liggliluff11 ай бұрын
Probably because of their well knownness

Dutch part is called Sint Maarten and is in the south and the French part is Saint-Martin, which is in the north. You mixed them up, but still got it right haha.

The correct pronounciation of Curaçao is Kurasao.. Not Kerchau... Or in local dialect.. Korsow.. (I used to live there). ç is always an S sound in Portuguese.
