We are in San Felipe, Mexico and showing you a swap meet in an ex pat community and life in a Mexico town. There are a surprising amount of Americans and Canadians who retire here to live affordably.

We moved to SF to stay 2 years ago. Rent a beautiful house in town and love the convenience. We exist on social security and couldn't afford to stay in the USA. Viva Mexico.

Can I ask what you pay all-in per month for a house in town, with utilities, internet, etc? I'm on a modest Soc.Sec. retirement fixed income. Also best websites(?) for local rental accommodations. That would be awesome to get this info first hand from you. Thanx, Laird.

2nd comment after finally visiting San Felipe. Absolutely loved it there. Wasn't desolate after all. Part of me wanted to buy a beach house and live there. Your video was so well done but didn't actually show all the best parts. I'm glad I got to see the place in person. Hope you post more.

Ross and Marilyn here. We have been full time expats living in El Dorado Ranch, San Felipe, eight years now. Even through the hot summers. LOVE IT!!! Thank you so much for the great video. We're looking forward to the one on the tour of EDR. Anyone interested in good and bad and cost of living here, look us up on Facebook.

Used to stop at San Felipe to get ice in the late sixties on fishing trips farther south below Puerto Citas. My have things changed! These were quaint little villages back then that were visited mostly by fishermen after tatoaba and other sport fish.

I first visited in 73 and agree it was a sleepy fishing village devoid of tourists. That all changed when they built highway 3 from Ensenada. SF was never the same.

Beware when buying property or starting a business in Mexico. You have to have a lawyer who specializes in that. People say that u should rent for at least 3 months to see if u really like the place first.

My mother spent 16 plus years living in Mexico as a beautiful young blue-eyed, blonde and she was never bothered. Maybe it was because she spoke fluent Spanish. I traveled (as a young blue-eyed, blonde) with my grandparents and we were never bothered. Your attitude has a great deal to do with how we are treated and we shouldn't live in fear...best wishes for your future plans.

I don't know about retiring there ... but the more videos I see from the San Felipe area the more I'd like to head down for a few weeks to start. I generally travel alone now, but think I would prefer to have someone else with me. As a Canadian I would want to check Travel Insurance. I already have that when I travel in the US, but I would have too look into the Mexico coverage. It looks quaint and a pretty neat area to explore.

I trust Q-Roo Paul's expense breakdown (qroo.us/2018/01/10/retired-in-mexico-our-monthly-expenses/). He is in a different part of Mexico that is more expensive than San Felipe. I live in Club de Pesca in San Felipe where I bought my park model trailer for $10K USD, put about $6K into a 400 square foot screened in patio, pay $300 a month in rent 1 block from beach with 24 hour security. House rentals in good areas are from $400 and up. Electric never higher than $15 per month even in the heat of the summer (I am here all year but note I live in 400 square feet of indoor space). Water $4, cell phone $8 unlimited talk, text, 1 GB data in US, Canada, Mexico with Telcel. I use Netflix ($10.99) and share Internet with my neighbor (home phone and Internet about $30). No cable TV, but you can get that for $20 to $150 depending on what you want. Mexican private health care $850 per year ($1M USD coverage in Mexico) with $100K for emergencies anywhere else in the world. Auto insurance for the year $250. I have a Mexican car, so auto registration for about $70. Gas is very expensive at almost $4 per gallon, but I walk almost everywhere as I am only 1 mile from the Malecon and many restaurants and bars. A tank of gas can last me months. Food is very inexpensive. Once a year I fill up my propane tanks for the heater and stove. Beers in bars are from 30 pesos to 45 pesos. Where I live at Club de Pesca there is a store that always has beer on ice for 20 pesos and a patio right on the water where people play Mexican Train and Left, Right, Center in the afternoons. Come on down. The Chili Cookoff is May 5 on the patio at Club de Pesca.

There are tons of things to do down here in San Felipe that don't involve alcohol. In El Dorado alone, there are multiple things going on every day (www.eldoradoranch.com/resort/Calendar_Month.html). Free movies, games, tennis, water volleyball, pool tournaments, etc. There are also tons of volunteer organizations that do things like pick up trash, feed hungry children, spay/neuter animals for free, assist the disabled, raise money for the cancer clinic, provide free glasses and hearing aids, support the DARE program, etc. My dog loves it here because there are many places he can be that he does not even have to wear a leash (it helps that he is well trained and behaved).
