I live in Ensenada and have been living here just shy of 12 years. Kathy's advice at the end is priceless. For me it's paradise. I love the people , the culture, and all of the adventures it offers. She's also correct. It pays to learn conversational Spanish or already be bilingual in Spanish. Fortunately, I am relatively bilingual and that has just added to the wonderful experience of living here. I can't imagine moving back to the U.S. I enjoyed the video.

I've been living here in Cuernavaca Morelos Mexico for many years and also San Miguel de Allende. The weather alone is worth living here, 80 degrees every day and 60s at night with low humidity. Ensenada is San Diego weather without having to pay $2,500 USD a month for a small apartment there.

Thank you Kathy for sharing your life and love of Mexico 🎉I am also a widow (8 months in) and will be moving to Mazatlán in 3 short weeks. Some days, when grief and memories get in the way of my progress, I get discouraged and feel overwhelmed and I don’t think I can make the deadline… But seeing how well you are doing in Mexico gave me boost of energy today. Cheers ❤

@@javelinaflips-annie5000 Best to sell the house. I have my huge house for sale in Gold Canyon AZ. and my brother just bought a house just a few miles from mine. Mazatlan is a nice location and it's economical there, but I like Puerto Vallarta better given I've been visiting there since it was a small village. Jump into your new life with ALL FOUR FEET!!! My Uncle lives on Roller Coaster just N. of the River. Oh, visit Juanito's Restaurant on the street going along the Malecon in Mazatlan - it's in the hotel area N. of the McDonald's and on the RH side - the owner has another name, but this is his favorite restaurant and it has a lot of class. He was fun to talk to. Keep studying Spanish = phrases, vocabulary, grammar and use recordings for pronunciation. Good luck!!! I enjoy a circle of friends in P.V. and hope to visit this summer.

Try to focus on just getting one major thing done everyday. Don't pack your day with things you need to do and that way if you happen to get more things finished then you feel like you've really accomplished something. You will find it hard to sell or even give away most of your stuff and anything you may decide to put in storage, you won't miss any of it once you get down here. Believe me when I say that everything you feel you will "really need" is already here.

Try not to get discouraged, it’s very normal to feel overwhelmed when grieving, remember just keep putting one foot in front of the other and it will keep you moving forward, grief takes its own time we just have to keep walking through it. Also be Gentle on yourself if you are having a hard day, Wishing you all the best.

@@phildodd5532 I meant what I said. The water comes in "garafones". They are not bottles, they are jugs and they are not 5 gallons they are 30 liter jugs which is very close to 8 gallons. Of course, it is drinking water, what else would it be? I made it clear that the water coming through the faucet is not drinkable, nor is the water in the tinaco, and that I purchase water for drinking from the truck that passes by my house on a daily basis. I don't need any help expressing myself in English or Spanish or having my meanings interpeted.

Thanks for the insight Kathy!! I have visited Ensenada often over the years esp. when I lived in CA. I always liked Ensenada, but I've traveled all over Mexico over the years. My preference is P.V., but there's several places I wouldn't mind living in Mexico. Guanajuato and Huatulco are two other locations I also like. I'm in Mexico often enough, but I'll likely move there after I sell my current larger house. It's just more fun to live in Mexico!!! The hardest part is in assessing all that you want out of your ultimate location. We actually created a spreadsheet to help in that determination. We were able to narrow it down to about 30 cities that had all the checks for the boxes that we required. You need to take into consideration how it will be to live there when you are in your 70's or 80's. Medical care accessibility as well as for us, an international airport. We are now 5 months into our 4 year journey around those locations to gauge affordability and how we like these locations. It takes work, but it is worth it to find your perfect home here in Mexico!

Hi Mariana! Hi Kathy! Que bueno verte de nuevo. After surfing and beach camping along this stretch of coast for more than 45 years, I knew what I was getting myself into when I moved here towards the end of last year. I live just south of you off of Avenida Diamante. I was in that very Calimax two days ago to use the ATM! There are some great places to eat along Calzada Cortez. Whenever I drop my laundry off at Victoria's Ecoclean just down the street from you, I'll drive that stretch down to Mexico Ave and grab a bite at one of the many different places along there. I do that to avoid taking any of those pot hole ridden side streets to get back down to Diamante! When I moved here I thought that none of my neighbors really noticed me, they would always smile and say "Buenas dias!" and I would smile back and try my best for a cordial reply in my broken Spanish but on Christmas week most all of them came by with their kids to give the "new kid in town" tamales. I love it here! If I see you around town I'll stop to say "Hola!" Hope your leg heals up quickly so you can return to just walking to wherever you need to go. BTW-Whenever I talk to my friends up in the LA area they always ask me "Do you feel safe walking around town, is it dangerous?" I tell them the only thing that is dangerous is not watching where you step, because you may step into a hole and twist your ankle. Just like anywhere else around the World, you shouldn't flash your cash and I've heard you need to watch out for the occasional pick pocket when in the tourist sections. I also remind them that there is the Tourist Police, Municipal Police, the World famous Federales along with the National Guard, they all carry and show their guns and that not even one of the regular citizens own a gun. Buenas suerte!

I am just seeing this video 1 year after recording. Her monthly expenses are now $ 1,765 just due to the devaluation of the American dollar and the strenghening of the peso in the last year. Not including inflation. I also live in Mexico and compared to my monthly budget, she does not have any expenses going toward healthcare, no cellphone, she never leaves the city to travel anywhere and no expenses for her cat, ie, cat food, litter, and a dozen miscellaneous expenses. Just saying the viewers are being mislead to think that they also can live of $1400 / mo. just fine. Its getting harder and harder to do that in Mexico. FYI.

Kathy we live in San Carlos, Sonora about 7 months per year. The remainder is near Seattle. We are Residentes Permanentes and speak Spanish. We love Mexico, but the climate in summer near Guaymas is brutal. Some day in the future we will not want to drive the 4 days each way between Seattle and San Carlos. Ensenada is one potential option. I like that there is a major University in Ensenada. Questions: - How are summers in Ensenada? - Are seasonal rentals (July 1- September 30) readily available? - We currently live in and own a condo on the beach in San Carlos and love it. Is the topography in Ensenada such that many or most properties have views of the Ocean? - How large is the gringo population in Ensenada? Currently about 45% of San Carlos residents are gringos (in winter).

Very helpful! I really like the recent info on Ensenada! I hope Kathy's' leg is better very soon! Is there information in the guide that helps you determine if there is a water shortage where you may want to live in Baja? I've heard many times Ensenada is having a terrible drought. Thank you!!

I plan to get there in 4 years when I’m 67. But could be sooner if the cost of living gets worse here in San Jose CA. Thank you for the video. ❤

Great info from Kathy. Thank you. Glad she mentioned the water situation and the need for a tinaco. Thats hugely important and not something all americans would know. I'm curious about her health insurance. Does she have IMSS for her public hospital visits, and private insurance for her private hospital visits? Can she elaborate on her costs for her medical procedures? And did she need to pay for them up front? Did she stay in the hospital?

??? When I add up those MXN numbers (Pesos), I get a total much smaller. Approximate total of 20,240. If the list intended 3,000 for a Housekeeper AND another 3,000 for a Gardener, then the total is 23,240. Where did I make a mistake?🤔

That is just one of the better things about living in Ensenada, it's always has a very comfortable climate. The cool ocean temps in this area keeps it from ever getting too hot and it keeps the bugs down also. No A/C means you can expect a reasonable electric bill, saving more money for tacos!
