Could Your Solar Eclipse Glasses Be Counterfeit?

Eclipse mania is sweeping the country. On April 8, millions will be gazing up to catch a glimpse of the once-in-a-lifetime event. Manufacturer Mark Margolis says there has been a flood of counterfeit solar eclipse glasses that have hit the market. Inside Edition found an ad on Craigslist offering 500 pairs of glasses for just $100. An Inside Edition producer went undercover to meet up with the man selling all those glasses. Inside Edition’s Les Trent has more.

Get a vary hot and bright flash light and shin into your eyes it won't cause any lasting damage but will burn that's how I tested mine

Basically, the real solar eclipse safe viewing glasses won't allow you to see Anything but the sun or extremely bright lights, such as those when welding. When you put them on, it is absolutely pitch black. When you look at the sun with them, it'll be just a small circular round light, not even bright on your eyes. If you end up with glasses that show through more than that, it's not safe to look at the sun with them.

Use your flashlight on your phone. Put your glasses onto the phone flashlight. If the light appears like a small speck, it's real. But if the light is a big circle, you got a fake.

In the old days, we put pin hole in a paper aiming the sun/eclipse throught the hole onto another paper on the ground. Worked just fine without having to worry about going blind.

I'd rather use an ND filter on a digtal camera and look at it through the digital screen. Not worth the risk to eyesight to look at it directly.

I just got fake glasses from amazon.. had the ISO label but you cant even see a bright cell phone light up close, its completely blacked out. I guess that's how they get away with the ISO rating because I just wont see anything at all

I just bought a few pairs of these exact same ones from Canadian Tire. I know the NASA approved isn't true, but it also has an ISO approval, which is what it should have. Fingers crossed.
