Couldn't Grow ROSES until I Got This | Suburban Garden - EASY

I couldn't grow roses successfully in my suburban garden until I got this and it was so easy I want to share all my secrets in this masterclass for big success in a small rose garden. I am a home gardener who discovered how roses are grown successfully and want to share what has worked for me. When roses bloom, again and again, the scent and the colors are everything in the garden. The best is when you find what roses bloom all year, and which to plant in your garden for the biggest impact.
I received a very good comment and realize that I need to further clarify since I don't think I went into enough detail on a couple of points. This is what I do as a home gardener and what has worked for me so far:
FERTILIZING NOTES: I wanted to further clarify how I fertilize only around a cup per rose. I do every other week for the first month and then drop to once a month. If I see the rose is doing well with flowering and looking healthy, I scale back even more. The Superbloom is a strong fertilizer, therefore, I look at the health of the rose; flowers, leaves, and flower buds. It may be that you can use the rose fertilizer twice in the season if it is doing well.
PRUNING: When I shape my roses in the Fall, I don't keep new growth since I am concerned it won't do well if we have a freezer. In the Spring, I keep new shoots to get more flowers by having a younger one. This is the process I take, the healthier one, is the one I keep.
Thank you for commenting and bringing more knowledge to the community.

Trust me, i had watched tons of rose videos, i never understood the process of cleaning up the climbers, they talk terms like lateral stem cutting(greek & latin to me😂) i always wondered which side is lateral. Your videos are to the point 🎉 & easily understandable ❤ You earned a new subscriber🫶

Hi! Happy New Year! 🎊. Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed the video, it really helps me with creating future videos. I am so sorry, but the red roses I never got the names of, since I got it so many years ago. The peach ones, I did include the names on the video. The first one I showed is Bathsheba from David Austin. They have such gorgeous roses! I hope this helps! The white tree rose is Floribunda Iceberg. Do you have a favorite rose you are growing?

Thanks for that info. I have been growing a Crown Princess Margarita for a few years now with very little success. Yours looks so beautiful! I will be moving it in the spring to a sunnier location which I think is the biggest problem. But will also use other advice from this video. Wish me luck!!!

You are very welcome! Yes, the sun is so critical, I have another David Austin rose that is not doing well because I need to move it to the sun, and had it in a pot temporarily, but never got around to taking care of it. Like you, it is on my list. LOL! Enjoy your day and best of luck!

Hi Elizabeth! So happy it has helped you... The rule I use when I prune them in the Fall is to make sure they are dormant so new shoots won't come up and die out. Otherwise, you can wait until Spring and do it then. Best of luck!

Hi Melba, can you please give me some ideas what are some roses I can plant in containers with no thorns Thank you kindly Nancy
@cocoonraw
@cocoonraw 6 ай бұрын
Hi Nancy! Any rose will do well in a large container, but I love rose trees with annual flowers on the base. They need space for the roots, so the container should be deep and wide. Go on David Austin's site and search for thornless roses. They will provide a whole list of them. They have beautiful ones, I get so many from them. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! You have a lot of great tips and a beautiful garden. I’m ordered my first David Austin roses set to ship in spring, but unfortunately all I could get was the bare root roses. The one you recommended, Bathsheba, isn’t in stock now 😩

What do you do about pests? We have Japanese Beetles and Saw Fly that really do damage, I'm in VA.
@cocoonraw
@cocoonraw 7 ай бұрын
Oh, I remember the Japanese Beetles when I lived in Atlanta. The only way I could get rose blooms was to early in the morning, take a jar of soapy water, and drop them in there. I have to do this for the stink bugs in my zone. I never dealt with sawflies, but I believe that you can do the same. It worked well and was the only way I could deal with them. Best of luck!

Where do you get your fish compost?
@cocoonraw
@cocoonraw 7 ай бұрын
I get mine at Wilco, they carry it every year. Hope you can find it! If you don't have a Wilco near you, search for the compost on Google and see if they can provide you with a local supplier. It is much, much cheaper than buying it on Amazon.

Thank you so much for all the information. It is working for me so far, but I truly appreciate all the recommendations. I do understand such a good point. I keep the older shoots when shaping my rose bushes at the end of the season. I add new ones only at the beginning of the season. I should have been more clear. Best wishes to you also!
