Park History
Eugene “Gene” Louis Coulon (1916-1977) was the second Parks Director in the City of Renton. After serving in the Army during WWII he joined the Recreation Division in 1947 as Assistant Recreation Director and then was promoted to Director of the Parks Department in 1948; he served in that position until his death in 1977. He directed the department at a time of huge growth in Renton parks and was instrumental in obtaining the land for the beach park. The park was named in his honor in 1978 and then dedicated after its completion in 1982.
