Ha ha Thank you Mark! I felt a little funny in my last video not throwing the two but the day drew short and I just did not have the time. For this video I made sure to include throwing as it seemed to be the design purpose of the axe.

Good chance you’re already aware of these gloves.. but im in the middle of testing out the Mechanix Wear M-Pact ‘DURAHIDE’ version of their popular more heavy&robust line of tactical gloves. The durahide version was made for working/working with tools in mind so you got the tactical features and protection + dexterity that the usual mpact glove provides then you also have the more heavy duty leather palm/fingers for a work glove together. A nice combination if you ask me. So far i like them a lot. Compared to a lot of leather work gloves that are sort of big clunky extra material getting in the way,lack of feeling&movement. These give you that snug tactical fit, a lot more natural to feel and room for fingers to maneuver around, but still with the leather palm&fingers that brings all the benefits of having leather gloves which people look for (Picking up metal containers off the fire when you’re in the bush etc.) they’ve been good to me so far but its only been 3-4 months so I couldn’t tell you how they hold up to use over time. Anyway that’s my take and suggestion for leather gloves. Thanks for the content, cheers!

Great review! I love my flying fox. As far as gloves I've tried a lot including crud gjoras. Always come back to the wells lamont 1132's. I treat them with obenaufs LP before use and they last forever. Excellent for the $$.

I have the 20"ish handle version. Once the handle was thinned out a little and I tuned the edge up, it's a very useful axe. Council Tool's steel is a good balance of good edge holding but still easily cut with a file. I love mine. The hardened poll is very useful as well

Sticky means it’s cutting deep!!! That is outstanding chopping! Most hatchets don’t chop for shit! Because they are to light to any real world work!

I think part of the stick is from the really rough casting and grinding from manufacturing. One could easily sand the grind marks down and smooth it down to help with this a bit. The blade is also nearly parallel behind the edge for about an inch and a half. This works well for throwing and sticking but not the best for throwing chips when chopping. A few things I picked up on later after buying a few more of the "utility line" axes... they are a bit rough in the grind and cheek area.

Nice review. I've been looking for a new, beater backcountry camp axe. This looks like it could be the one. Fits in a pack, more utility than a lighter hatchet...sold.

Fantastic review!! By far the best axe, hatchet and/or tomahawk reviews on KZbin. I will definitely be looking into this one. Sadly, as for the gloves, I can’t find any good ones myself. Please spread the word should you find a decent maker.

Thank you very much for the compliment my friend! This is a very good axe for the price I think, I was able to find it as low as 39$! The gloves are another story ha ha, I found a few pairs of US made ones stitched with Kevlar thread ( the failure point of most min) but they are not cheap! I am going to order a pair and see if they are worth the price/if they last.

Nice job on the review. I've always enjoyed your videos and appreciate your time and effort to post them. BTW - I've been using Wells Lamont gloves for years, mostly for hunting. They have stood up well for me.

I too would consider a longer handle. Whiskey river used to carry a longer handle, looks like most their handles are sold out at the moment though.

@@bobsundquist2039 The mask I made myself, normally I offer them for sale but this model is not very uniform and the ground edges on the top and bottom makes it so I cannot guarantee fit to other axes. There is too much size variance from one to another.

Started saving pocket change to get the CS Hudson Bay, but considering it's only a few bucks more, one of those would make way more sense than having another hawk. * PS, I'd like to know who sells good quality leather gloves myself. Last pair of good ones I've had came from BNSF RR back in 2011. Every pair I've bought over the past 10+ years has sucked. PPS, Looked at the tag in the RR issue gloves and they're Wells Lamont & made in Chile. They're still in better shape 10 years later after doing heavy construction than new gloves I bought that had finger holes after a little light use. PPPS, Looked 'em up on online and they appear to be the "Wells Lamont 1132L Work Gloves with Grain Palomino Cowhide, Keystone Thumb - Price: US $24.73" on eBay. Hope that helps.

Yeah the Fox seems a good deal at 38-40 bucks for sure! I hear you on the gloves, the 1132 seems a popular choice. I have found a few US made gloves but the price is a little steep 50-60 bucks....if they last though I would be willing to pay. 20 bucks a year for cheapie imports that I have to replace is getting expensive too!

Ya know for its price and how its made in comparison to the camp carver i think its a better axe especially when u started splitting and chopping.. Im thinking the convex grind has alot to do with it as well.. it strikes a fero rod better as well... Not a bad tool axe at all i may buy this over the camp carver thanks for the review!

I just wanted to say , how would it compare to the Fiskars X10, and then you pull out the X11 😁. The Basque axes you would also like a lot I think. They have the tomahawk friction fit style also, and als thr Rinaldi axes, also friction fit.

Absolutely the X series are great tools for the price I think. I have X10-11 and the new N-10, great options! I have looked at the Rinaldi axes and would like to add a few to my collection at some point for certain. I will have to look into the Basque axe I am not familiar with them. Have you got experience on a spiked tomahawk, head size similar to coldsteel trailhawk? Lookin something to take with me when ice fishing. Can use the axe to make the hole bigger if needed and use the spike to pull me up when the ice breaks... and to make kindling to dry myself up, if needed...

The old Cold Steel Vietnam Hawk seems about what you describe, although I think they sold the design (American Tomahawk Co) and now they are like 200$. You could always run the CS spike hawk and modify the blade if you want a lighter tool.

@@theana86ar For the Cold Steel I do not offer international shipping, there is simply no way I can guarantee fitment due to variations in the manufacturing of the head itself. The shipping charges almost double the price and I cannot operate at those costs, I do apologize. The only sheath I offer internationally are the Fiskars because they are made to a tighter tolerance and I can guarantee they will fit first try.

Hahaha that glove issue has been a thorn under my fingertips for years.Ive been a carpenter/ wood worker for 30 years now and literally have been through hundreds if not thousands of pairs of gloves as I've always worn a pair even in screaming heet let's just say you can tell from my permanent tan lines

Did you grind the top so it could scrape ferro rod or did it come that way?

It came pretty sharp. Most the Council axes I have purchased were pretty roughly ground and can throw sparks.

I am using a 1/2"X5" Ferrocerium rod with antler handle and a piece of fatwood for tender.

I re profiled the edge a little. If I remember it came ok sharp but nothing like the pack axe or camp carver. To be fair though almost every axe/hawk I purchase I re profile.

@@timd249 No problem. This sheath was made by me for this axe, I do not offer them for sale because the council tool axes are a little too rough an not uniform enough. This one had rough grinding marks and a sharp bottom edge that I had to work down to get smooth enough to use a kydex sheath with.
