Swapping bad habits is unfortunately easier than stopping bad habits... How goes the social working? My take from viewing your channel is you would be highly beneficial to individuals & the community as a whole. Have you found something to make good use of your repertoire of skills? Is there any particular area you'd like to focus on?

Interesting... I wonder if it's more difficult to embrace our positive actions because our emotional appraisal is based on the macro - or overall feeling, and if the overall feels negative, then we dismiss the positives or underestimate their value since we can only focus on the net loss.

@@BenChanNYC I love your analysis of this. It's quite a common cognitive distortion humans have to naturally 'filter' out the positive, or to minimise it, whilst focusing more strongly on the negative. For example, you get a review from your boss, which is mostly positive, but you focus on the one bit of constructive criticism you might receive. I honestly just think negative feelings are more emotionally charged and stronger than positive ones. Have you also heard it takes 5 positive things to say to a child to overcome 1 negative thing? Same kinda situation. That's why it's so important to reflect on the positive from time to time because it is there! Just often lurking underneath the surface.

@@ASMRtherapist1 Makes sense. After all, our instincts are geared to focus on "the negatives" - to spot something wrong as motivation to assuage our concerns, since that's what lead to our continued survival back when humans faced life or death situations on a regular basis. It's the "survival" instinct that motivates our lizard brain, not the "positivity" instinct.(not until we invented drugs, that is) And even when something positive happened, we couldn't let it overshadow our concerns since those were potentially life-threatening. (now I'm imagining a super-joyful cave-person who only focused on the positive... yeah, they didn't live long 😋)
