Count Arthur told me that he performed the pack of cards routine in one of the many war films he acted in. "I'm not sure if I did it in The Bridge on the River Wye, The Heroes of Telemarketing or Saving Ryan's Privates", said Arthur. The man is a legend. I really do.

Wonderful! The Count's shows are the funniest things I've ever heard on the radio.

And when I see the Four... I see the Four Apostles: John the Baptist St George Paul And Riiiiingo Just magnificent. I will tell you nothing for that Update 6 May. Saw Arthur last night in concert at Norwich. Superb. Wife was a bit neutral beforehand but one minute in and she was laughing out loud. Met Steve after the show and he signed an autograph for me, had a chat and we had a pic taken. A true entertainer who appeals to ever ready......ready brek.....everybody, everyboddddddy. What a privilege. Count Arthur Strong remains a tour de-force. They honestly did.

I’ve loved the Count since I saw him in Bridge Over the River Kwai. His appearances in ‘Juliet Bravo’ and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ were all too brief and teasing. Peaking in 1968-9 of course, he can still conjure a great performance, but ...... what was the question again?

He's so much funnier on stage and radio. The TV show was far too watered down for my liking, and the supporting characters didn't really add much sadly. But that's not to say that the TV series didn't have it's moments. The flying lesson was a particular highlight for me.
@risvegliato6 жыл бұрын
yeh the radio show is much better, and as you say, the supporting characters like sally, wilf, etc are much better on the radio. It was nice to see Count Arthur and John Shuttleworth in the same universe together though...
@susanbrandt17243 жыл бұрын
Here in the USA, we only recently found radio and other standup from CAS. I enjoyed the series immensely and obsessively. And I miss it now that it's not on Acorn. I've listened and watched his stand up on KZbin and I like the series a whole lot better. I've seen one clip of 'Ask the Family" and that was hilarious!
@stephenguppy34663 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. They moved him out of his familiar surroundings, gave him a weak and entirely support cast and ruined the whole thing.
@louiep7772 жыл бұрын
For me the TV series was what elevated his material. I just saw him live and it was nowhere near as good as the series. He needs a straight man to counter his whittlings in my opinion.

I once played cards with Count Arthur once and suffice to say I lost my shirt. How he talked me into playing strip poker is still a mystery to me. Particularly, as we were playing "happy families" at the time. A case of one or two thriple scotches too many if truth be known. And it was from John Collie, so no rubbish! You couldn't make it up.

Comedy is what makes you laugh. The Count is to Clever for some of which you appear to be in a minority in the negation of his humor. For me idiots like McIntyre, Jimmy Carr and countless others are not funny but I sure as hell will not go round slagging them off.
