I cant understand the criticism of CAS. Since my father died last April I have felt devastated at times. The only thing that has lifted my spirits is listening to The Count Arthur Strong Radio Show. And why do people listen to it if they don't like it? haven't they got a life to get on with?

Count Arthur Strong brilliant and can be enjoyed on many levels. As for the dislike brigade it's probably because they really haven't got a grasp of the send up which is one of the levels, in the same way Python used the public school upbringing and applied it in away to show absurdity of it all.. An example of this is Arthur doing a lecture which includes the garden of Eden. He qualifies his knowledge of the types and mounts of fruits from is associate that drinks at his local, a fruit and veg man established 1963 and is an expert in the field. It's important to have even here an understanding of the world around us.

Malapropisms is something ingrained in the character. If it stops it's a different character. A child would understand that but not apparently the pofaced "I'm-so-educated" unimaginative middle class.

Some people laugh at custard pies in the face. Others laugh at puns and others laugh at Characterisations among other things. Count Arthur is a character who has been crafted by a comic genius. Those that don't like it are probably looking for a custard pie which is not easy on the radio. The wrong words are part of that character - I laughed for ages when in one programme he referred to 'Gerry and The Pastry Makers'. That's not a pun or a custard pie. It is a portrayal of a slightly senile old duffer who still has enough marbles left to function which is why in my opinion it is so funny. He functions as an individual but lacks certain social skills when talking to people. Alan Partridge, Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory both display these tendencies and along with Arthur make great comedy but they don't throw custard pies.

I have rang Count Arthur many times to discuss what constitutes good and bad comedy. Just because some people don't get the joke is this bad comedy. Alternatively if some people do get the joke is this necessarily good comedy? Its interesting to note that Count Arthur's opinions never waver. He has consistently said "Get off this line. If you don't stop harassing me I'll have to get the Police involved. Has Edward Woodward put you up to this? You couldn't make it up". An acquired taste, I really do.

Bring back Count Arthur BBC. He's a wonderful creation and I've enjoyed his stage show a number of times. I wonder what it is that the two studio critics actually do like.

A few years back, before retiring, I used to catch snatches of the Count and thought it utter tosh. Of late, I've been following CAS on KZbin - and I'm now addicted. He's comedy gold. However did I miss it? It was Little Tut who brought me to heel.

There's never been so much choice of television and radio channels. With such a choice why do some people continuously listen/watch something that they clearly don't enjoy, then proceed to let as many people as possible know about their discontent? Would it not be easier to find an alternative program that they actually like? The real problem, I would suggest, lies with these people rather than the program they complain about. Anyone with taste can see Count Arthur Strong is pure genius!!!

We can’t all like the same thing. Some people appreciate great comedy, and admire a comedy genius, and some (like Ian and Rachel here) obviously don’t. Negative Ian and Rachel are themselves very entertaining, with their sarcastic remarks, giggling and laughing about wanting to switch the CAS radio programme off (ho, ho, ho, I’d rather listen to the crashing of pots and pans than listen to this - heee, heee, heee, agrees Rachel). They both thought ‘what is going on’ (giggle, giggle) they they find him ‘silly’, ‘there’s no plot’. Come on BBC we get the point! But their description is not the Arthur we all know. For millions of us, CAS is a character who is forgetful, pompous, muddled and bloody funny with it. I feel sad for these two who will NEVER have the sheer joy and fun of listening to CAS’s escapades, his joy in seeing a ‘ffwwd’ button on his ‘toaster -“ooh you can fast forward toast!“ (It’s actually a VCR). Plus his James Bond audition. Please ignore these two humourless beings and listen to CAS yourself. We’ve seen him live and still talk about the sketches, the aching belly due to laughing. NB: in another interview (yes she pops up again!) Rachel doesn’t like his ‘fake old man voice and the canned laughter’. Sums her up doesn’t it!

Up to series 5, hilarious, & then in series 6 his voice seemed to change & I think they started running out of ideas. I haven't really engaged with further series but the first 5 contained moments of genius
