I think this was mr Basie's last live concert. The following year '83 he and the band made their last (Pablo) record "Fancy Pants". It was just a year later in '84 that Count Basie passed. This was for me, by far, the best ever big band! I was fortunate to see him twice in '79 (at his birthday concert) and again in '81, both in Holland. The happy musical joys this fabulous band bought me/us i'll shall never forget and savour! And particular under mr Basie's artistic foresight, direction, determination and of course his inimitable piano playing which was instantly recognisable for nearly halve a century. I play this truly magnificent big band Jazz music nearly every day and will do that till the day i pass..... Thank you very, very much mr Basie!

There are Rutger video clips and disc's available of the band after his death. I've only got the one with Frank Foster swinging the baton, at a Japanese concert. But somehow you sense/feel that the "soul" had gone. Good talking to you. Cheers!
