Saber said: (Fate/zero) I only joined this war to avoid spilling rivers of blood. Fight for the Holy Grail, no meaningless bloodshed, minimize sacrifices, one person taking up the mission of fate instead of armies of men and competing here! This is what we Servants should do.

"And there you go. You heard her, Iri. Our Heroic Spirit thinks a battlefield to be something better than Hell. What a joke. It's Hell itself. There is no hope on a battlefield. There is nothing but unspeakable despair. Just a crime we call victory, paid for by the pain of the defeated. But humanity has never recognized this truth. And the reason is that, in every era, a dazzling hero has blinded the people with their legends, and kept them from seeing the evil of bloodshed. True human nature has not advanced a step beyond the Stone Age." -Emiya Kiritsugu
@LeonGun85 жыл бұрын
@@saintjohnalabama Funny thing is Kiritsugu entirely missed the point Saber had. She had led armies in hellish war, all the while knowing every enemy she killed wanted to protect their own loved ones and fought for their own nation, neith side more just than the other. She joined the Holy Grail War expecting a battle between seven people, a contest of strenght between seven honorable warriors who shouldered the hopes of humanity by themselves without staining their blades with the blood of innocents. Saber in no way glorified war. She expected the Holy Grail War to be treated as it should be, a contest of strenght between heroes.Yet her own Master was just a non-repentant murderer who didn't even try to show respect for those he slaughtered and betrayed, and was willing to ignore innocents who claimed for help if it meant potentially saving more people in the long run. How exactly do you think Saber felt leaving the hellish battles of Camlann only to be summoned by an uncaring Master who forced her to stain her honor yet again?

The will of humanity, Alaya wanted mankind to gained control of the world and let the remnants of the old pushed further in the Reverse Side of the World. Though she is just one of the machination of Camelot downfall as it was step by step. So said the King who was such a good leader that his own followers betrayed him and then divided his land into 3 different factions. His popularity in Macedonia was even so poor by the end that they called him a betrayer and called in to question how he cared more about Persia than his own homeland. So yeah, glass houses. Also, shows how much Urobuchi actually knows of History when he kindly ignores the fact that Iskandar was great at being a general but had many missteps as a King.

@LeonGun85 жыл бұрын
@@mimirtells Gilgamesh is pride itself and he was created by the gods to BE KING. And of course Saber wanted to redo her mistakes. The entire tragedy of King Arthur is that it's a tale of a lot of good-intentioned leaders and Knights who all screwed up. There's such a huge conga-line of mistakes that EVERYONE IN CAMELOT COMITTED that only a clean reset can fix it. For example, depending on how much they borrow from the legends (we haven't been given enough details about the rest of the Knights) then Gawain is responsible for killing Pellinore and Palamedes in a blind act of revenge, as they killed King Lot when he rebelled against Arthur (King Lot is Gawain''s dear daddy). Then we have Agravain's infamous outing of the Queen, which leads to Lancelot killing Agravain, Gareth and Gaheris, which leads to Gawain and Lancelot injuring each other and thus being unable to save Arthur in Camlann. Even Tristan's famous words in the Fate universe that "the King does not understand human's hearts" were unintended and entirely the product of a vehemently depressed Tristan who had lost both his best friends,his old loved one and his wife and just lashed out at the King unfairly. And that's just marking a few of the famous bad events that befell Britain, especially those confirmed to have happened in Nasuverse (if we mention more from the regular lore that could be added we'd realize that it's amiracle Camelot didn't fell apart sooner since King Arthur was the only thing keeping them together). So basically, who wouldn't want to hit the reset button on that mess?
@silvershines5 жыл бұрын
@@LeonGun8 Except he was a great king who conquered practically the known world. He had no lasting legacy but that's because of his abrupt death with no line of succession. Alexander the Great was deified during his lifetime and his body inside a gold coffin was treated as a divine object for many decades afterwards and even played a huge role in the Wars of the Diadochi. It was well respected for a long time and further immortalised by the Roman Empire. His reign was eerily similar to Genesis Khan where the Mongolian Empire also fractured to several major powers. Imo, assimilating with the local culture is always expected for an empire unless you reign with a rule of might as the Roman Empire, British Empire or Qing Dynasty did. All of these empires spent practically a good portion of their latter history quelling rebellions. Also it's a very modern value where a good leader should have a lasting legacy. A good leader is simply someone who exhibits good leadership traits, e.g. Alexander, Octavian, Hannibal and Genghis Khan. 'Good' as in people will follow you until their deaths, where they have absolute faith in your leadership abilities. A skill that rarely exists in modern bureaucracies where the blame game just played too many times.

No matter the intentions behind it, murder is still murder. I honestly can’t get enough of this moral ambiguity conflict that Fate has. Especially when Shirou acknowledges that he’s contradicting himself. ‘I won’t kill anyone! I’ll save everyone in front of me!!’ and then, ‘I’ll kill them if they’re trying to hurt others!’ It does beg the question (not unlike Death Note) where is the line between a murderer and a hero? Is it a matter of intent? Remorse? Guilt? Regret? Either way, a life is lost. What can be seen as heroic to one side, is seen as sinful to their opponents. It’s a never ending debate. Truly, morality is fragile.
