@skibidi_skif Gothic romance has produced some real masterpieces and is one of the pillars of fiction, especially literary and feminine. That you don't like it is one thing and your absolute right, but not to throw out as a truth that it's a cringe genre. The Brontë sisters, does that mean nothing to you ? Wuthering Heights was also one of Robert Eggers' main inspirations for the Ellen & Orlok relationship.

After i finished the movie i kind of thought i liked it but then i couldn't stop thinking about it, i watched some of the interviews of robert eggers and i fell in love with how he studied history, folktales, and occultism to make this movie. The art pieces they took as visual scenes, the symbolism of how in that time woman's sexuality was repressed and frowned upon, the way they thought ellen should be kept out of sight just because of her melancholy but in the end she was the one who put an end to all of this by becoming free of society's expectations and sacrificing herself. I think she both liberated and sacrificed herself, her human side was in love with thomas, but her otherworldly side wanted something freaky and i am completely okay with how things came to an end(though i still mourn for thomas)
