RIP William G Stewart and Richard Whiteley

Richard Whiteley forever! - I have to say I just loved the guy and I never even once saw him in the flesh, never mind being up close and personal with him every day for decades like Carol was. So I can't even begin to imagine the devastating grief Carol must have suffered with his untimely death. He seemed to have an ageless quality to him that made his death all the more unacceptable. I.R.P.

I don't think this is regarded as a proper countdown episode as William G Stewart also hosted a This Is Your Life-style retrospective which was broadcast immediately after the 1999th edition. I think this is it,

That bit between 1:15 and 2:06 was absolutely awful. Just pulling silly faces which means nothing to the viewers. And that bit at 5:05 where the guy runs downstairs because he doesn't want to miss Countdown...which they just happened to have cameras in his bedroom to capture was one of the things that is sadly wrong about documentaries in the last couple of decades. Why didn't he just get up and go 10 seconds earlier? And that stupid bit right afterward of them all leaving the library in a hurrry. So dumbed down.

its obvious you were not a countdown viewer, the parts at the beginning is all about the uniqueness of the show and likeability of richard and carol
