It really comes down to, "if you have a 7, divide by 7 ... what do you mean, it takes too much time?"

Division by 7 isn’t the problem. With 681 you know that 630 + 49 can get you to 679, and you know that you can go +5 to get your mod 7 in 686. That gets you to 98, and you can try that with the other numbers. The problem is when the other numbers could never get you that answer and you wasted time!

For the first round, we can make it as: 2 x 10 = 20 100 + 20 + 8 = 128 128 x 4 = 512 512 + 1 = 513 For the second round, since 660 = 3 x 11 x 5 x 4, it is easy to get a factoring solution: 25 + 8 = 33 8 x 5 = 40 9 - 7 = 2 40 / 2 = 20 33 x 20 = 660 The third round is too easy, but there is also one simple factoring solution: 50 x 2 = 100 100 - 10 = 90 90 x 6 = 540 For the last round, another solution is from 675, since 675 is a multiple of 9: 7 x 10 = 70 70 + 5 = 75 75 x 9 = 675 8 - 2 = 6 675 + 6 = 681

I had 680 on the last one: 9 × 7 = 63 63 + 5 = 68 68 × 10 = 680

For the first round I found a more elegant way than working up from the 500. 100 ÷ 4 = 25 25 + 2 = 27 10 + 8 + 1 = 19 27 × 19 = 513

(8÷(9-7))×5×(25+8)=660 (10×4+50)×6=540 (9×10+8)×7-5=681
