BACKGROUND
Countdown is the channel’s longest running show and the first show ever broadcast on Channel 4 when it launched 40 years ago, in November 1982. The original version of Channel 4's Countdown is the French television programme « Des chiffres et des lettres » (literally "numbers and letters"), where the Numbers Round is referred to as « Le compte est bon » ("the total is right"). The show debuted in 1965 as « Le mot le plus long » using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. This year marks the shows 51st anniversary.

SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.

I got (4+5)x100=900, 10x6=60, 900-60-3=837. First time I've ever gotten it within the time limit and first time I've gotten it and the contestents haven't. I feel so smart haha

In the first numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution, and I also had these: 100 + 5 = 105 10 + 4 = 14 14 - 6 = 8 105 x 8 = 840 840 - 3 = 873 10 x 4 = 40 100 + 40 = 140 140 x 6 = 840 840 - 3 = 837 In the second round, I saw both contestants' solutions and also had this similar one: 100 x 3 x 3 = 900 900 + 9 + 2 = 911 And also this one: 100 x 9 = 900 7 x 2 = 14 14 - 3 = 11 900 + 11 = 911 But I think that's pretty much it for different solutions. You can rewrite them or use extra numbers, but they all seem to be variants of 102 x 9 - 7 or 100 x 9 and then getting the 11 in some way with the remaining numbers. In the third numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution, and I also had this one: 50 - 9 - 7 = 34 34 x 8 = 272 272 - 1 = 271 And I also had this one: 50 x 7 = 350 9 x 8 = 72 350 - 72 - 6 - 1 = 271 (you can also subtract the 1 from the 50 before multiplying by 7, but why not use all the numbers?) In the final numbers round, I saw the contestants' solutions and also had these: 100 x 9 = 900 900 / 4 = 225 225 + 6 = 231 100 - 4 = 96 96 / 2 = 48 6 - 1 = 5 48 x 5 = 240 240 - 9 = 231

Keep it simple. Use the numbers you have. There is a 6. What is 837/6? Well, 840/6 is 140, which is easy to make. Then take away the 3.

as a brit i agree, for two reasons , stone? when has it ever been stone? and the order is confusing to me, but my kids watched a youtube video from one of the kaji channels and one of the people there called it paper, rock scissors. and it crashed in my ears.
