Colin's very good. Projects a good attitude while speaking, and I like that he give the impression he's always playing along with the numbers as well, as opposed to previous hosts who said the target number, then promptly went to sleep. Slightly amused by his difficult with the words for the first teaser, but we all have a few of those, we're just not all on T.V..

My impression was that it means something rude or sounds like something rude. Because he said “I can’t say this in my LANGUAGE” not everyone’s going to laugh at my accent or no one’s going to understand my accent.

@@peterwilliamskelhorn6675 Hey man, no shame in it. Like I said we've all got a few, I know I do. Wasn't meant to be derogatory toward Colin, quite the opposite, the fact that he'd admit that he has a difficulty and have a bit of chuckle at his own expense on T.V. makes him more of a likeable human.

1) tricky - look for the divisibles! 11x18 - don't need the biggies (4+7 x 10+8) 2) dang - I missed the 770 option & only got 777 (different from contestant) 3) too easy at a glance: 500 (5x100) - 26 (25+7/7) 4) I couldn't find that 135 - dang

8:04 Target 675 has a digit sum of 6+7+5=18 and is thus divisible by 9... 10 x 8 = 80 80 - 5 = 75 7 + 2 = 9 75 x 9 = 675 ...not sure if Rachel's way is more straight forward; after all, it's multiple of 75 which is one of the possible 4 large available.

In the first round, I saw Claire's solution. However, you can omit both large numbers and solve it as a "four small": 10 + 8 = 18 7 + 4 = 11 18 x 11 = 198 I also had these solutions: 25 + 8 = 33 10 - 4 = 6 33 x 6 = 198 50 / 10 = 5 25 + 5 = 30 30 x 7 = 210 210 - 8 - 4 = 198 In the second round, I don't believe there are many alternatives, but there's at least one that I spotted because of my experience doing four-large numbers games. 10 + 3 = 13 100 x 13 = 1300 1300 x 3 = 3900 3900 - 10 = 3890 3890 / 5 = 778 What's going on here is that 100 / 5 is 20, so I've multiplied 20 x 39 for 780. However, I need to bring it down by 2, so that's where the unused 10 comes in, since 10 / 5 = 2. In the third round, one of Rachel's roundabout ways to spare the contestants' feelings might have been this: 10 + 5 = 15 25 x 15 = 375 375 + 100 = 475 7 / 7 = 1 475 - 1 = 474 Or it might have been done this way: 100 - 25 = 75 75 - 7 = 68 68 x 7 = 476 10 / 5 = 2 476 - 2 = 474 In the fourth round, the obvious solution is: 10 x 8 = 80 80 - 5 = 75 7 + 2 = 9 75 x 9 = 675 However, there's also another way to do it by factorization: 6 - 2 = 4 10 x 4 = 40 40 + 5 = 45 8 + 7 = 15 45 x 15 = 675 And I also had these alternatives: 6 + 2 = 8 10 x 8 = 80 80 x 8 = 640 7 x 5 = 35 640 + 35 = 675 7 x 6 = 42 42 - 8 = 34 10 x 2 = 20 34 x 20 = 680 680 - 5 = 675

For the first round, Clare's solution is obvious. Besides, there are several alternatives using factoring, one can even only use the four smalls: 25 + 8 = 33 10 - 4 = 6 33 x 6 = 198 4 + 7 = 11 10 + 8 = 18 11 x 18 = 198 For the second round, I get Rachel's solution immediately, and I cannot get any alternative. For the third round, it is easy to obtain Rachel's easy solution. I get the following alternative: 25 + 7 = 32 7 + 5 = 12 32 x 12 = 384 384 + 100 - 10 = 474 For the last round, I get Rachel's solution, as well as the following based on the fact that 675 = 25 x 27 = 9 x 75: 7 + 2 = 9 8 x 10 = 80 80 - 5 = 75 9 x 75 = 675

I'm sure we all got 198 instantly. 50*4=200, 10-8=2, take it away. I only managed to get 780, and I'll be shocked if 778 is actually possible. 100*(5+3)=800, take away 10*3=30, and then add back on the other 10. 474 was pretty trivial. (100*5)-25=475, 7/7=1, take it away. And the closest I got to 675 was concatenating the 6, 7, and 5. In actuality I managed 700 with 10+8+7=25, (5*6)-2=28, multiply them together.

(6:57) 675, the very lucky way : 8 + 2 = 10 ; // We have the 6 , the 7, the 5 and also two 10 to build this number like in school when you were six (hundreds / tens / units). 6 * 10 = 60 ; 60 + 7 = 67 ; 67 * 10 = 670 ; 670 + 5 = 675 ; NB : I don't want to be rude, and I know that something obvious to me won't be necessarly obvious to everyboby else (and vice versa, especially in Countdown), but ... Am i getting freaking good at this game or did the candidates miss the obvious for these four rounds ? (Spoiler : I still completely suck, I'm afraid ...)
@bjoern.gumboldt
@bjoern.gumboldt Жыл бұрын
I dunno, maybe... me personally, I see a multiple of 75 that's divisible by 9 when I look at 675. Reason for that is a) you should know the multiples of the four possible large ones and b) dividing by 3 or even better 9 makes the problem much smaller, so always check the digit sum. When you look at it from that perspective, the left three tiles can be used for 10 x 8 - 5 = 75 and the next two give you 7 + 2 = 9 just times them together and you're done. But I also like your way, just wouldn't be the very first thing I'd think of, but it's super straight forward.

@@bjoern.gumboldt The Nine-Time-O-Jutstu is one of the many techniques I need to master to get good. (We're more likely to get a target that is a multiple of 9, 8, 4, 3 and / or 5 than having the three digits and two 10 that kindly apears on the tiles) Sometimes, I miss the obvious too. This is why, for now, still suck at this game. #LongIsTheRoad
