She said she used her favorite trick...implying that it was the divisibility by 9 test of adding up the digits. Divide 738 by 9 and you get your 82. The main thing you need to know with your 82 times table is that 82 * 2439 = 199,998 = 2 * 99,999. That means that fractions with 82 as a denominator repeat with a period of 5, starting with the hundredths place due to the factor of 2. 2/82 = 1/41 = 0.02439 02439... 1/81 = 0.0 12195 12195...
