Counter Pressure Bottle Fillers vs Other Beer Bottle Fillers
Bottle fillers compared:
Tapcooler Counter Pressure Bottle Filler
Deluxe Counter Pressure Bottle Filler (the "Deluxe" version just includes a guage)
The Last Straw bottle filler gun (There are a ton of more simplistic versions of this)
Intertap Growler tip for bottle filling
Here are the ones I recommend:

If you have someone helping you the non-deluxe bottle filler is my favorite as it doesn't have any issues except for the tubes being in the way. I have a 1 year review coming out tomorrow morning on the Tapcooler as I've owned it and used it heavily since Jan 2020. I'll give you all the pros and cons in that vid to help you with any info you might need towards deciding on a better fit for you.

I still need to do the CO2 on the side to make it easier too. I am debating on either replacing my 1 to 4 splitter, adding a different regulator with two split offs instead of one (on the main CO2 regulator) or just splitting of my initial into 4 more and only using 1...to many things going on and so many things that need to get done but only so much time and $$$. Eventually I will get it done too. Did you get the T counter or the the Tapcooler? Both have their pro's and con's as I mentioned.

There used to be a guy (no longer available) that used to sell a silicon adapter to help convert it to a counter pressure bottle filler. I actually gave my "Last Straw" away as I didn't have any intentions of doing a Sci-Fi movie where I'd need a laser gun as it does still look like a cool laser gun. Overall it is a well designed product that just missed that one major detail to make it the perfect bottle filler.

Growler fillets are great(I’ve got the intertap filler - both- and intertap taps) if you’re going to drink the beer by the end of the day - growler filler - is perfect! Longer than a day - keep the oxygen off the beer or it becomes stale tasting (cardboard).

Great overview! Brewing both commercially and at homebrew level, I've used DIY fillers, and counter pressure filler brands. No matter the company there always seems to be an issue in being able to accurately control the process to get a really good quality fill. I hope the details on what makes a quality fill can be discussed; Mainly with counterrpressure filling, the importance on stabilizing the beer temp with the counter pressure and keg carb pressure, plus a quick capping for a quality fill. Furthermore when trying to fill bottles that will last longer than a growler fill, there may be some extra steps in tweaking your beer carbonation a bit higher and your keezer temp lower.
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 3 жыл бұрын
@@bmacsd Thank you for the recommendation as I do understand a fair portion of that but would want to research a bit more before discussing it on video as I try to provide the best info I can as I know we are all, always learning a bit and I actually like that about the hobby and industry as every appears to be from time to time. I actually run my carbonation a little on the high side for personal preference plus my keezer is at 34F most of the time but the big part I will need to research is what is the ideal temp and pressure increase (over the standard style) plus the hardest part is that the first beer or two get filled from a room temp tap and late into the 2nd beer or by the third the tap is about the same temp as the beer. I feel this would apply to any bottle filler unless maybe it was put in the keezer (or like) a few hours before usage to help it match the temps....Thanks for the insight as I just thought about that...and that makes a great idea before starting a fill. I'll try to cover this very soon as I think you are 100% right about the processes as I've heard all kinds of tricks but if your processes are as close to perfect as possible it would limit any limitations/issues with the device being used. Thank You for the insight, I get excited about brainstorming this stuff...even if it makes me a beer geek, I'm good with that.

Thanks for the video! I built a kegerator in ‘20 and don’t bottle anymore but I find myself wanting to bring beer with me to friends houses/gatherings. I mostly brew by myself (wife will help once in a while) so sounds like the tap cooler is the way to go. I like how it connects right to the nozzle of the tap. @BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing 2 жыл бұрын
The ball lock quick disconnect is a must have but the hose extension might not be. Mine only bubbles a little out the relief valve and when it drips, it drips into my SS tray that is designed to catch beer drippings. If you don't have a tray, a basic towel or a few paper towels could easily catch any drippings.

I’ve gotten great results with the Blichmann beer gun, but it can be a pita to set up for a few bottles. So if I’m bottling a lot of beer, like a 1/2 or whole keg, I’ll use the beer gun. A couple of bottles, the tap cooler. But if I’m packaging some beer to take to a party or somewhere, a simple hose over the faucet to a 32 or 64 oz growler wins.
@BitterRealityBrewing

Question - When you use the Blichmann beer gun, do you slightly over carb the beer to help balance the loss of carbonation when filling the bottles? Or do you do what some recommended by chilling the bottles down before filling them?
@FermentationAdventures
@FermentationAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
@@BitterRealityBrewing honestly, it’s been awhile, but I do over carb a bit, drop the pressure in the keg down to a few psi, and overfill the bottle so all the foam leaves the bottle. @@BitterRealityBrewing Yea, par for the course with most bottling to chill bottles. I take 4 bottles at a time out of the chest fridge/freezer, so they are not that cold by bottling here in our hot summer climate. One has to pay attention to releasing most of the pressure from the keg or fermenter first, with a little bit more pressure from the gas bottle. If you get no bubbles in the tube leading to the gun beforehand your good to go, and fast. If all goes well, not a drop spilt either.

This would be very interesting to see. I have the cheap counterpressure filler. I currently use a vice to grip it so it stays in one place while I push the bottle on to it rather and don't have to hold the filler. I also added John Guest fittings to the beer and gas feeds to make set up easier. Works well but I would ideally like to work out how to mount it properly maybe in a stand, with something like the tapcooler clip to hold the bottle in place. Even better would be to have the mounted filler operated by an arm like your capper so you could insert the bottle then push down the arm to press the filler into the bottle

Y ou have missed the best one by far off your list ! the boel itap, each of the ones you have shown you need to hold the bottles, or move the stopper up or down or hold the stopper in tighter some how while the pressure pushes its way out, spraying beer everywhere, you can knock bottles over , they are long and clumsy, where do you lay it down to keep it sanitary between bottles ? etc etc, i hang any size of bottle from a 330ml glass to a 3 litre pet bottle off the itap by the quarter turn bottle locking mechanism, and it holds it there itself, i purge, pull the beer style tap, open the valve and i could literally walk away and do something else until the pressure stops it as it fills up, if im doing a cider in a 2 litre or 3 litre bottle i can remove one from the itap and cap it while the next one is filling up by itself, you cant do that with any of these ones in the video, then again its Russian made so maybe thats why it doesnt catch on in the USA. The guys at itap are also willing to improve their designs, i was using some reclaimed glass bottles of diff neck sizes and one type was just a couple thousands too big to go in the metal one for the glass bottles, i took a couple thoughsands off the metal (made no difference to the rest and other kinds) and mentioned it to them, next thing they are asking me to send exact dimensions to the thousanth, photos of the bottle types, exact sizes of the necks etc which i gladly did for them, i dont know if they made the adjustments but i would bet they did as they were very interested to hear this from me and passed it to the design guys within a couple of hours, in a few years beer guns of these kinds will be a museum piece

Actually I saw the last straw had released a rubber stopper to help make it a counter pressure bottle filler. The key is that when filling it under pressure before capping it, you are able to retain more CO2 in suspension. This is where I feel a counter pressure filler is much better, especially if it is a highly carbonated brew.🍻

Honestly, that should work great for bottling and kegging. It might take a little bit of a learning curve for you, but honestly, I think the bottles will be the easiest as transferring to another keg sometimes you lose a bit more CO2 and need to put it back under pressure with an external CO2 source. Same situation: I started using a FermZilla All-Rounder, reducing pressure, then bottling (via bucket with carbonation sugar added). I have a CPBF but am still collecting the adapters & lines to xfer from the FermZilla directly to bottles. Like BRB said, I expect to have some kinks to work out, but it'll be a fun challenge and w/o any buyer's remorse as I won't be buying anything for temp usage...it's all long-term stuff. I think the trickiest part will be xfer'ing from FermZilla to bottles at room temp since I have no way to cool the FermZilla. (I'll need more CO2 in-solution at a higher PSI because of a 65F fermenter temp.) I'm considering an ice-bath to chill the FermZilla and bottles down so I can CPBF-xfer to bottles at a lower PSI. BTW, brewing a batch in the FermZilla in 3 days is pretty awesome! Next up is brewing lagers at 65F and still having them oh so smooth...

Hi, I have a question about filling. When a bottle is filled and you are withdrawing the filler, which will lower the level of beer in the bottle due to the displacement, is this a point that oxygen could be drawn back into the bottle? Should a bit of Co2 be added to cover this? Thanks
@BitterRealityBrewing
@BitterRealityBrewing Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I've never had a problem with O2 getting into the bottle enough to do any damage. You are right about the displacement but you also end up getting just a bit of foam from the change in pressure when removing the filler. For the very tiny amount of O2 that might get trapped inside, the O2 absorbing caps may be able to handle without issues. I've bottle probably over a thousand bottles now (I used to bottle instead of keg and now I bottle as needed or to empty a keg for a new keg) and I've never had any O2 issues from the bottling under pressure although I may have had issues from time to time when bottling direct from the fermenter but I can't guarantee that was the issue.

Sorry for the delay but this still might take a few replies. Actually on my system I use duotight for all the liquid lines but on the CO2 lines, I use a system like yours. I have to heat the ends up in very hot water and then to remove them, I have to cut the ends off with a razor. I am looking to move to 100% duotight for ease but currently on my CO2 lines they are 5/16" ID Ultra Barrier Gas Tubing, PVC Free with Gas mfl swivel with barb that screw on to my disconnects. (I believe the MFLs are 1/4" swivel flare nut with 3/8" barbs. And of course screw on clamps to tighten the hose down. It is a rock solid way of doing it as you don't have to clean the air lines unless you get liquid in them but it would be nice to have an entire system that can easily be broken down for ease of cleaning and changing of items.

I like them a lot especially the dual tap one for bottle filling where you can fill from two taps is really cool. I am going to probably hold off though as my wife is looking to sell our house, live somewhere for a short term while we have a new house built. At the new house she is bribing me with my own area to setup a small home brewery inside with any and everything I want (costs of course will limit me some as I'm not rich but I will leverage what I can into the mortgage if possible such as plumbing and wiring). I'm excited as I could brew inside without all the noise from outside and I'm strongly considering on running dual setups for testing reasons plus I have about 400 sq ft from my understanding which to me a lot of space. I may still brew outside if it is quiet and a nice day but as the house will be built downtown I suspect it will be noise outside most of the time. I hate moving but this could be huge for me and the channel long term although I am very concerned about the in between part as that is an unknown and I have too much stuff to go to an apartment so it has to be a house before our final house is built.

@@BitterRealityBrewing Yeah, we moved from a 2 BR into our new house. It was actually the neighboring dumpsters we raided after we moved in. Yes, the builders seem very wasteful, but that was our gain! 😁

Someone a while back sent me a DIY plans on how to build one and it was pretty simple and straight forward from what I remember.

@@BitterRealityBrewing I built a stand of four counter pressure fillers for my brewery that works great. You could get away from the clutter of beer lines and CO2 lines with a stand. Happy brewing!

I'm aware of that but maybe I need to re-watch my video to see how it might appear to users. I use to have a lot of issues with the CO2 purging button on top not sealing but it appears to be working much better after using the device a great deal.

Fully agree as I mentioned it really isn't necessary. I bought it with my first counter pressure filler as I was still learning about it years back.
