Introducing CS Rating-a precise display of your skill in Counter-Strike 2. With regional and World Leaderboards you'll know exactly how you stack up.
Competitive mode now features per-map Skill Groups, so players can master their favorite maps while learning others. And in Counter-Strike 2, match length is changing to 12 round halves, with overtime, to determine a winner.
And beginning today, we are starting the process of inviting as many eligible players as possible to the Limited Test. To be eligible, players must have CS:GO Prime Status, an active Competitive Skill Group, and play the majority of their official matchmaking games in one of the regions where the Limited Test is available.

@@i_drinkliquid It's probably fair to say that Team Fortress 3 is "in the works" but not close yet, consider how CS:GO to CS2 (the engine/visual/gameplay upgrade+transfer of stuff) is pretty much a simpler version of what they would have to do to go from TF2 to TF3. TF3 _will_ happen because TF is a profitable and loved franchise, but i don't think they are focussing on that one (even 'in secret') right now, as fun as TF is you can't deny that CS and "that other franchise" are a lot bigger in the public eye and a lot more people want those other 2 games, i think we _can_ expect TF3 at some point, but maybe in 2 years or something? for now CS2 and "that game that sparked the 3 meme" are the focus.

You do realise that unless Valve takes serious steps to prevent it, we're going to see game-ruining smurfing between maps - i.e. a Global on Mirage suddenly playing 3-5 ranks lower, if not more, on Cache - purely because it's a different map. I don't understand why nobody is talking about this; Valve never figured out how to prevent account smurfing in the past, I don't see why now would be any different.

Your second point is valid, though the ranking system was never meant to indicate raw skill on any given map or role - it was meant to reflect the totality of a player's ability throughout the entire map pool in all roles required of them. There's a big difference between playing as different characters in fighting games and a CS player that is a wizard with the AWP but doesn't know how to plant the bomb.

Unless they actually release the specifics of the algorithm they're using, we could well see a catastrophic smurfing problem between maps - i.e. a Global on Mirage playing as a significantly lower rank on Cache, purely because it's a different map. Valve haven't solved the issue of smurfing in the past, I don't see why now would be any different. I hope I'm wrong.

@@A5ha I think Value is more concerned with getting people to diversify their map pool in order to get more players into Premier mode and global rankings once CS2 launches. I see what you mean with the smurfs, but I would assume a global would just progress through the ranks fast until they hit their ceiling on the new map. Like a Mirage Global would start S2 on Vertigo but get to DMG or LE by the end of the week based on game sense and aim. But they'd have to learn lineups and prefire angles to rank up that last bit from LE to Global. It will probably take a week or two before things settle down, but I think it's a good change in the long run. For me personally, I can only play D2, Mirage, Inferno, and Overpass at LEM+ quality. I want to play other maps for fun but don't since I don't want to derank, but now I get a chance to do so without risk.

How? If someone is a Global in Mirage and silver in inferno, he'll be matched up with actual silvers in Inferno, how is that fair? Playing within your skill group is basically impossible now

@@jojoman4223 The one of main aspect of getting good in csgo is map knowledge. In this case, if youre in silver, then you prob lack the knowledge of pre aims, line ups, map control. You can outplay good aim players with map knowledge, especially pre aims.

Good for experienced players, absolutely horrible for new players. However, its highly unlikely that CS2 would attract and retain new players anyways.
