Stampin Up! has raised their prices so high that most people on a fixed income (retirees) cannot afford to buy from them anymore. You have Crafter's Companion in England that offers WAY more value for the price they are asking for their stamps, dies, embossing folders, paper and other products compared to Stampin Up! They also don't have the pyramid sales force which is why they can offer better prices and still remain in business these days.

I don't think Stampin' Up! is a pyramid scheme. It is a legitimate business. Salespeople (demonstrators) can be compensated for selling products and/or services. Additionally, demonstrators can be rewarded for recruiting new participants. In those cases, it is a business for those demonstrators, and they are building their individual teams. There are no membership fees though there is a minimum purchase amount per quarter required to maintain demonstrator status in order to get a discount on product. The demonstrators that I know work very hard on the introduction and sell of product as well as teaching and hosting "how to" classes. I am a demonstrator but do it as a hobbyist (which is the same for most Stampin' Up! demonstrators). I have never recruited anyone or been pressured to recruit anyone. As a hobbyist. I have no intention of doing it as a business so the probability of my getting commissions or any type of reward is nil to none. Totally in it for the product discount. Typically, pyramid scheme participants are charged membership fees and commissions, and must buy set amounts of product inventory every month in order to remain in the company. Little attention is paid to actually marketing and selling products.

I have been making cards using decoupage, stamps, dies and painting for, well just shy of 52 years now, through all its fads and have seen all its advances. I only make for family, friends and to give to charity shops and fund raisers. Stamps and ink have always been the most expensive spends, and now it’s very big business! I have never bought new stamps, especially from companies, unless on sale or what they now call ‘retired’ and I often recycle old store bought cards, which now are my most popularly asked for cards, vintage being very in!!!😊 I only have ever had a limited amount of money to spend, and you learn to use it wisely. I watch demonstrators, very gifted people, in awe of the latest products they advertise, and catalogues they walk you through, not much of which I can afford, and wonder when it became such big business, being crafty. I used to and still craft for joy and to help with my mental health, as many do I know, but I am sad to say, I think it does put some wanna be crafty people under quite a lot of pressure too! To have the latest thing with matching paper, card, ink. I still use stamps, a container of the alphabet I was bought as a youngster and still going strong, I had for over 35 years ago and a heat embossing tool I have had for 30! Those were the days, and believe or not, crafting was not the money making venture it is now! Things cost money, but were still affordable! These days, not so much! 😊Perhaps a slight adjustment in the way craft companies work may cut down the need for people to head to China to buy from there? Isn’t that where most of these companies go to, to produce these products anyway? 😊

Yes, there is a huge problem with copyright issues, because people can't afford to pay so much for things they will use just a few times. Hi Suzie. I saw your video and would like to share my take if I may? I have bought many stamps and dies off Chinese online sellers and by chance have found out later on, that some of them were Stampin Up designs. I did not set out to buy Stampin Up knock offs, but I'd like to add that sadly the prices of not just Stampin Up but other designers too are out of my budget and so I could not afford to but them anyway. Meaning that even if I was not able to purchase stamps and dies (and other craft items) off the Chinese marketplace, then I would not be purchasing anything at all. Therefore, neither Stampin Up (or other companies) nor their Customer Demonstrators like yourself would not be loosing any money, however I do understand how you feel. I hear many people say that they won't buy Chinese made items, without realizing that they are unknowingly doing exactly that as many stores are selling Chinese made items often hidden under the guise of the stores own brand so when they feel that they are standing up for what is right in their mind, they are often, without realizing it are doing it anyway. I don't know what the answer is but please know that not everyone is purposely doing companies or demonstrators out of money. For many crafters it is an important and very beneficial therapy for them and I hope it's not taken away from them but thank you for bringing this to our attention so for those who wish, they can be more conscientious in the future.

I purchase my stamps, dies, glue, sticky dots, masking paper, etc somewhere else ( same as Stamping up) and they all have been perfect for a third of the price. With the way life is so expensive, you can't blame people for trying to find them somewhere else cheaper.
@tracymeyers616 Жыл бұрын
While we all want affordable, I find it by far more expensive to purchase inferior product as they have to be replaced much more frequently. In addition, there is nothing like quality customer service and satisfaction that Stampin up offers. So even if the cost of an item from somewhere else is affordable, the cost in time and frustration dealing with a company or worse someone just out to make an easy buck is off the charts and nine times out of ten there is no customer service (or it’s severely lacking) and certainly no customer satisfaction. No, for me, purchasing quality made product from a reputable company with a good track record of caring about BOTH their customers AND their demonstrators is wealth worth the investment; and that is what it is, an investment and it is far cheaper in the long run then it is to have to replace inferior items either virtually immediately or even over a small space of time.

You addressed the packaging of the counterfeit products but not the quality of the products themselves. I compared two different sets, including stamps and dies from two different companies. 1). The stamps were not made of photopolymer. They were made of cheap acrylic. Therefore, the ink beads up on them and they do not stamp well. And they cannot even be “seasoned” to work! Also, they do not stick to blocks as well as photopolymer stamps do. 2). They were not the same exact size as the Stampin’ Up stamps; they were noticeably smaller. The dies matched the smaller size of the acrylic stamps. However, one of the dies was supposed to be a cover plate (the size of a standard 4.25” x 5.5” card.) Because of the reduced size, it did not cover the full size of the card as it should have. To me, the inferior quality of the counterfeit stamps are far more important than the inferior packaging. Think about it…the companies who make the fakes have to cut corners somewhere in order to be able to sell them so cheap. So they make inferior products and then package them in inferior products.

Example: Garth Brooks could either sell out every single seat and offer concert nights in between concerts because he choose to make all seats reasonable or he could play to a venue that was half full - get the idea? These companies could if they choose wipe out the fraud by lowering prices and have completely loyal customers by doing so and generate more product sold? Just my two cents - yes I have tried Temu and Ali Express after being told about them from Australian penpal. I have had no issues with anything! The reason we can find the products for 95% less is because they inflate the cost after production that high. An 80 year old woman is getting ripped off spending $50 on a craft product that is only .50 to make. You are part of a pyramid. Those above you make tons of money off from you overcharging 80 year olds for a craft item. We take nothing with us when we die. Let that 80 year old pay the actual value for an item. I have a customer that bought a “stampin up’” die set. She brought it to me to see it and compare. The dies have to be cut apart and when we tried to use them I had to run them through the die cutting machine several times and add sheets of paper for shims to make the plate sandwich thicker. They still did not cut well. You are going to get what you pay for. Stampin Up products are very good quality.

Stampin Up’s red rubber stamps are made in their factory in Utah not in China.
@evaj.1337 Жыл бұрын
many rubberstamps are made in Taiwan for companies such as Stampscapes yet they are excellent quality. All the survivors such as Hero Arts, Stampendous etc used to produce in the US and later on outsourced production to Asia. For instance Housemouse stamps were manufactured in California. Then Stampendous took over and no longer produces woodmount stamps. Look at Penny Black. They all go with the flow, trying to produce as cheap as possible. Stampin up survived because of the way they sell their items. Going to parties, such as Tupperware, Avon etc. gave customers a good feeling. If they didn't buy, they were no longer invited.

They also release at the same time as the USA. China's been doing this for decades. What are Chinese components? Do some research before making up stories like this. Allow me to be a conspiracy theorist for a minute. Most of these counterfeit stamps are being made in China. I am bombarded by ads from China while I am playing games on my phone or tablet. I ordered something from Temu one time, and with the product, Ii received a thank-you card with 3 Temu gift cards to give to friends. Temu is trying to build up their customer base by any means possible. That's why you see ridiculously low prices on everything from tech items to kitchen tools to motorized carts for the handicapped, and everything in between. We know that China, along with Russia, is our greatest adversary. All of these companies from China sell their products, made using slave labor, have increased exponentially over the last few years. Is this China's way of destroying the economy of the U.S.A.? And why is China trying to buy up our land? It may be for the purpose as sinister as spying on our defense capabilities, our technology, or our scientific knowledge and advancement, OR as subtle as trying to undermine our economy and strengthen their own. Just a thought.

Interesting. That stamp set looked famililar as I have been spending the last couple days getting all my dies in some sort of order. I found all the stamps (clear ones) and they are exactly like what you showed. The actylic sheet that the ones I didn't use still sticking well to the acrylice, but the used stamps are loose. I don't have any matching dies. When I went to Amazon, none of the listings indicated that I had bought it on Amazon. I kept looking and finally figured out that I had purchased the stamps in Nov. 2023 for $13.99. That particular listing is now closed. There was no indication that this was a Stampin Up set as if we don't use your products we wouldn't recognize a black rectangle at the top of the packaging in the picture and it wasn't on the package I got. My set was supposed to come with dies but it didn't. I would never intentionally buy a counterfeit product, but I have been watching a lot of KZbins lately, some of which are StampinUp dealers and the first time one of them mentioned the price of a set of stamps, I almost chocked. Definitely out of my league financially I think the one she was showing didn't have many stamps but cost $30.

Over the years I have sold stamps for various companies and with every one of them my commission was 50% not 20% like SU. Stampin' Up does have the advantage of having so many coordinating products. (When I sold for Lasting Impressions brass stencils etc. their products all coordinated too and my commission was 50%.) I started making cards because I thought it would be cheaper than buying Hallmark. I was wrong! In order to bring the cost down per card, I did start buying knock-off stamps and dies. Many sets only get used a few times which defeats the purpose of trying to save money. Most of the knock-off sets I have purchased are about 10% of what SU sells them for. And BTW, I'm in my upper 70's. I'm sorry the lady you referred to was confused but I know exactly what I'm doing. I do still purchase inks, markers, blenders, paper etc from Stampin' Up!

It's not just Stampin' Up. China does not have the trademark infringement rights that the US has. By making supplies in China for a supremely lower price and then selling it for an above premium price SU has done this to themselves as have a lot of companies that get involved in the Limited Edition craze. I stopped buying SU stamps nearly a decade ago because to me it wasn't worth the money to pay "$50 for a stamp set I use for one project. I started buying on the secondary market for all SU supplies that wasn't ink or paper and told my demonstrator why. I also showed her where I bought a 20 gallon container of nothing but SU paper for $10 at a yard sale - it was a retail of over $1000 of product that the previous SU seller had been trying for years to get rid of. SU needs to innovate like Tim Holtz and show ways of using their products for more than just greeting cards - no one in my entire family even buys cards anymore from anywhere other than the Dollar Tree.
