Funny Sam got that “Counterspell” for Liam right down to the 4th Level... This group is more synchronized than the Tomb Takers.

Lucian doesn't care if the tomb takers live or die and everything that the tomb takers do is of lucians will, all the rest of the tomb takers are just means to an end. The nein care about each other so it makes sense they know each other better.

When there is more than one wizard/sorcerer/warlock in the party and they are fighting casters npcs there's always these "Counterspell Wars". This is a common situation in DnD and it's great😂

I’m just gonna throw out there that Fjord’s counterspell was with a warlock spell slot, which for him is 5th level. He couldnt have used a paladin slot because he doesn’t have 3rd level paladin slots yet . Otis didn’t have to roll, which means unless Matt forgot he cast it at 5th too. So Caleb at 4th should have had to roll
@ripple-effect-mlp3 жыл бұрын
Not really. I think it played out exactly as it should have, and here's why. See, here's what we know: 1. Fjord used a 5th-level spell slot to Counterspell. 2. Otis used a Counterspell to try cancelling Fjord's Counterspell. (We don't know what level it used, but we do know what level it DIDN'T use; we'll get to that.) 3. Caleb used a 4th-level spell slot to Counterspell and try cancelling the second Counterspell. 4. Liam ended up not needing to roll in order to succeed his Counterspell. Since a Counterspell's success needs to be rolled ONLY if the Counterspell is cast using a spell slot that is lower than the spell that is cast, and since Liam didn't need to roll, this means that Otis must have either used a 3rd- or 4th-level spell slot to cast the second Counterspell. And it ended up not mattering which spell slot Otis used, because Caleb's 4th-level Counterspell would have passed either a 3rd- or 4th-level Counterspell.
@jovianarsenic68933 жыл бұрын
It’s also possible that Matt knew that caleb would probably counterspell that, so he didn’t bother rolling for Otis.
@ripple-effect-mlp3 жыл бұрын
@@jovianarsenic6893 I will consent to that possibility, though I honestly don't think that's the case.
@leahbeah15853 жыл бұрын
@@ripple-effect-mlp In that case Otis still would’ve needed to roll, no matter what way you spin it, technically someone should’ve rolled, but at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter
@ripple-effect-mlp3 жыл бұрын
@@leahbeah1585 But why roll for a Counterspell that was successfully Counterspelled? It's not as if a Natural 20 on Otis' part would have overcome Caleb's Counterspell. Fjord's, yes, but not Caleb's.

dnd tip: never join a counterspell train ! always counter the spell that you actually want to fail, ie in this scenario, caleb/liam should've countered cree instead of otis. by joining the train, caleb could've successfully negated otis' counter, but if fjord had to actually roll, fjord could've failed and that would've been useless. so always, always, if you're the 3rd counterspell and beyond, shoot for the OG spell!
@Cultureghost2 жыл бұрын
Sound logic, though in this case I think Fjord would have auto succeeded due to casting at 5th level via a Warlock slot.
