Based on the true story of Elisabeth Bathory, the eighteenth-century Transylvanian Countess who indulged herself in an orgy of murder and vampirism before before being walled up in her room by the authorities. The ageing Countess Dracula discovers by accident that the blood of young virgins has an unnatural restorative effect on her celebrated beauty. Years later, she becomes engaged to a handsome young Hussar and is forced to repeat vile atrocities with ever-increasing regularity to hold off old age. On her wedding day, her past catches up with her, and she ages through many years in a few dreadful moments.

Countess Dracula in my opinion is Ingrid Pitts best horror film. She was a very talented actress and every part she played to perfection.

There was a boom in horror movies at this time and 100 were better than this one. If you haven't seen Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders, The Blood On Satan's Claw, Don't Deliver Us From Evil, Count Dracula's Great Love, Blood From The Mummy's Tomb, Vampire Circus, Cry Of The Banshee, and Count Yorga Vampire, for instance, don't bother with this one yet.

Hammer had a way with making unique horror films, but I'll always prefer the ones with Cushing and Lee.

The best that don't have either of them imo are The Kiss Of The Vampire Die! Die! My Darling! The Horror Of Frankenstein (dry comedy marketed by Hammer as a drama and that has confused people ever since) Vampire Circus Lust For A Vampire The Vengeance Of She (strong acting by Edward Judd lifts a pleasantly typical genre movie) Imo the best of the Mummy movies is the last one, not the one that had Cushing and Lee.

INGRID PITT and her sublime beauty...unforgettable, gave a quality of eroticism, lust to these Hammer films and aroused in all men the desire to be possessed by her...a fantasy perhaps unattainable...Ingrid, may God have her in glory ..

And this one got nothing to do with Christopher Lee at all. This is based on a true story....this lady long ago, used to bath in virgin blood, to keep herself young.....not sure how well that worked.....but yea, it happened in the middle ages....or even before that...Ingrid Pitt, perfect for that part.....and pretty too !

Oh wow....lol Just like in the movie. Her lover was much younger, and she waned to look young for him lol But each time she took those baths, she got uglier each time, when it wore off, and she looked into the mirror, she was more uglier then before...lol It's hard to explain, u have to watch the movie, then u see what I mean....:)

@@kellyedwards6429 I've just watched this, and I've seen no teeth/fangs or anything that looks like a vampire! Also, she walked around in the day time,.. 🤔 The only thing I've seen to do with vampires is the blood, being put on the skin to give youth.. Which come to think of it, isn't very vampire like. I wouldn't say it's a vampire film ☺ just a cash in off the money they made using the dracula name.

Ugh, why did they dub Ingrid Pitt's voice? It sounds horribly ill-fitting. I'll stick to the memory of her in The Vampire Lovers, thanks.
@darrelljustice6105
@darrelljustice6105 4 ай бұрын
I agree with you. The director chose to dub the voice of the younger version of the Countess that Ingrid played because he wanted a voice with an English accent. Ingrid later described it as an "English Rose" sounding voice. But Ingrid had been hired because of her European accent. After the filming was completed she learned about the dubbing and was very upset about it. Thank goodness the director didn't dub her performance as the older version of the Countess. Interestingly even though we often think of Vampirism as preserving youth, in Countess Dracula vampirism even restores youth.
