Of course everyone is going to think PPL is better, it's their song! The question is whether or not the Counting Crows represented the song well. imo, they did a great job respecting the original and added their specific characteristics to the song. Just like Big Yellow Taxi...

Lol, you might be surprised to learn this, but covers can be done to show respect or honor the original song or band. It sounds more folky to me. But, counting crows was already popular at this point, plus this wouldn't be a song to cover to get publicity.
