Counting Flies On Cows: The Before and After of Mineral Tubs

Insects or flies can be a problem whether at home or on a ranch. Flies can especially be a problem for cattle. Too many flies can impact a cows performance. In this video we kick off the use of Purina's Wind & Rain Mineral tub with IGR.

@@PrideRanch I raise Black Bragus, like U. Just vaccinated last Sunday. Their doing really well. I have an Angus Bull and a Brangus bull on them.

I only own 2 Angus heifers. I’m breeding them to a proven Brangus AI sire. I will try DMR Empire. He is owned by CDP Brangus.

Out here where I'm at on the edge of East texas we use sulfur salt block there yellow

I was doing that approach at one time. I then moved over to pour ons for fly control and then I replaced yellow salt blocks with white. With some of the new information I've received, I'll be keeping white salt blocks out and I'll start using mineral tubs with IGR year round.

Oh ok your cows look very well I use to own cattle don't now but I stay busy helping a buddy he uses Angus and Charalia bulls.i think I spell that wrong yellow bulls lol

I just discovered your channel a few days ago and from what I can tell, what you do is talk about what you have done and what you're going to do but you don't do any of it on camera. Is that right?

So my question this, what happens to the cows after the study? Will the meat or milk be processed differently now that they have become essentially testing cows? Also is that the reason that you are testing only about 36 of your cows instead of starting will all of your cows? Were you paid the fill value for each cow tested? It would seem that for the safety, that there would be a lot of liability involved, both for the cows and also yourself as the cows owner?

Great questions!! I like your thought process. At Pride ranch or at my ranch I raise 36 seed stock and commercial beef cattle. Most of my herd consists of Brangus cattle and 2 registered Angus heifers I purchased from 44 Farms. As a result, we exposed 36 cows and 15 calves to the mineral tub with IGR. Cattle do not absorb IGR into the bloodstream. So there are no safety concerns. So I will keep all of my cattle. I wasn't paid for the trail. My program consists of mineral tub exposure on a daily basis. This trial was different because I was not using a mineral tub with IGR.
