Business owners in China’s central province of Henan are still tallying up their losses following record rainfalls that triggered massive flooding in the provincial capital Zhengzhou. The floods on July 20, 2021, killed at least 99 people, and submerged many underground spaces across the city including some busy commercial blocks. Authorities estimate the direct economic losses from the floods will add up to about 71.5 billion yuan (US$11.05 billion).

These disasters are a reminder to us humans on how much power we have when the fight is between us and mother nature. The answer is very simple, we have zero power. We think everything can be controlled but we forget that nature can't be controlled. When a kid turns a brat the mother has to teach a lesson and remind the kid what should be done and so the same is happening to us. Just curious. Why do they make shops underground? You know its a recipe for disaster, right? Even in Indonesia where flood will come minimum once a year, we rarely have shops underground/under 1st floor. Mostly undergrounds are parking area, which will be mostly empty during shopping hours. I hope that next time shopping areas and other vital areas can be build far away from the ground, like 2nd or 3rd floor.

bantu jawab gan.. kaya singapur gitu gan banyak mall yg mempergunakan basement utk toko2. semua mall di orchard ada basement, beberapa bisa nembus ke mall sebelah sampe mrt juga. sistem drainase mereka uda di kalkulasi, jadi mereka pede aja. kalo di zhengzhou kebetulan kapasitas ujan 1tahun jatuh selama 4 hari, uda termasuk extreme weather jadi ga nampung drainasenya.
