Pokémon Go is a 2016 augmented reality (AR) mobile game developed and published by Niantic in collaboration with The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android devices. A part of the Pokémon franchise, the game is the result of a collaboration between Niantic, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. It uses the mobile device GPS to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, which appear as if they are in the player's real-world location. The game is free to play; it uses a freemium business model and supports in-app purchases for additional in-game items. The game launched with around 150 species of Pokémon, which had increased to around 500 by 2019.
Pokémon Go was released to mixed reviews; critics praised the concept, but criticized technical problems. It was one of the most used and profitable mobile apps in 2016, having been downloaded more than 500 million times worldwide by the end of the year. It is credited with popularizing location-based and AR technology, promoting physical activity, and helping local businesses grow due to increased foot traffic. However, it attracted controversy for contributing to accidents and creating public nuisances. Various governments expressed concerns about security, and some countries regulate its use. By early 2019, the game had over a billion global downloads, grossing over $3 billion in revenue. The game also had over 147 million monthly active users as of May 2018.

Nah bro, keep it real. Don't back down because some people want to live in a flowerfield of delusion, I always appreciated your content and still watch even though I quit Pokémon GO almost 3 years ago now. From my time with the Pokémon GO Community a lot of people have a particular view of the game and some people feel "threatened" when confronted with the facts of how poorly Niantic has been running Pokémon GO in the last 5 years. Keep up the good work bro.

7:06 thanks for the shoutout! 😂 Jin, you are critical of Niantic quite a bit. BUT! That’s completely understandable. Niantic deserves all the criticism you give them as well as the criticism everybody else does. When they deserve better we will give them better. Until then, please continue to speak out against the bs

I enjoy this game, but there's so many criticisms I have. As a rural player, shadow legendary raids are near impossible to do because you can never get enough players. I don't understand why they don't do raid hours with shadow legendaries or a raid day so players can cordinate and have a chance. Also idk why Niantic dosent change up the pvp system like choose a team of 6 pokemon then you choose 3 based on your opponents team like pokemon stadium. Gym battles also need a revamp, just very boring anymore.

How many times did we play events and think wow I didn't get anything good only to find out afterwards that Niantic forgot to turn on the shiny rate increase or they forgot to turn certain spawns on? We've been screwed over time and time again. Did Niantic ever have an event that ran correctly and they didn't need a makeup day? Was there ever a time they actually remembered to turn on the shinies

You are not too negative; of course everything is not good and it’s important to talk about it. The “not good” drove me away from the game. Niantic happily took my money for years and then basically told me that I don’t count, my gameplay has no value to them. I was a whale who played all the time from the beginning. I travelled to go fest every year. I had a great time and made wonderful friends. Last summer I finally had to stop. Maybe I’ll come back someday, but probably not.

There's a difference between being negative and objective. You're objective because you explain your feelings/thoughts and make suggestions about how to improve the game because you enjoy(ed) it and want others to as well. You see potential in it and want it to be its best.

Here's the thing. Being negative, even out of good faith, will eventually take a toll on you. You trying to "hold back" and not lasting long is a symptom of your burnout from the constructive criticism you are doing--which has merit. I promise you, if you focus on the positive, focus on the community, focus on maybe new players or returning players, you'll find love for the game again. I promise you, you will. I follow pretty much all PoGo creatives and your videos and comment sections are the only ones that stress me out. Good luck Count. This game was based on community. You of all people have that in your hand to have a bigger than the average community. If you focus on that, you'll find love for the game again. What Im saying isnt about Niantic, its about YOU. What can YOU do to better the community and your experience? Ill tell you what it's not. It's not constantly making videos about how much a game or the company sucks. There's a reason you still play and make videos. Focus on that reason. If you allow your hardcore followers to keep hyping you up on all your hate videos (which, again, Niantic deserved it), you're going to continue your descent into madness.

No, you're real, not too negative. I have quit watching other PoGo KZbinrs because I find their over enthusiasm grating and dishonest. I started playing in 2020, during the pandemic, my first experience with Niantic was them listening to players and what we needed to make this game work in a changing world situation. I remember them promising they were going to work for more parity between rural and urban players. And then every decision since has been distinctly worse for my game play - I live in the suburbs, but of a big city, and it is just getting harder and harder to play the game with their decisions. I do believe companies should listen to customers or what is the point of their existence? To make products nobody wants? To lose money because people won't pay for what they make? I would really love someone from Niantic to come play here in January and learn that their vision is incompatible with real life. xD

I agree with one of the comments here that negative probably isn't the best way to describe how you are with Pokemon Go, but overly critical. Understandable as it's apparent you deeply care about the game and want to see/voice improvements but that can be a double-edged sword and can cause you to be disappointed which people can construe as negativity even if you're only pointing out a couple things for the betterment of others. I rather enjoy your videos, and think you should continue what you're doing - I'm so fed up with Niantic especially in aspects like pvp lag and rural problems and glad you brought up Blizzard during Blizzcon as I feel that describes Niantic perfectly - tone deaf company, never listening. Keep championing our concerns but don't stress too much Jins!

I haven’t played seriously long enough to feel like my feelings are based on a huge time investment. I do find my self often feeling like I should just quit the game before I start experiencing all the issues you describe. I initially started playing the game to be able to engage something my sons love, but enjoy the game on my own now. I watch all your videos with my sons and you have actually helped us understand the game better, so even if Niantic is not listening, players like you, through your channel have helped thousands of players enjoy the game better. There are things I don’t like about the game, but the same is true of all the games I play.

Thank you for doing this video and replying to your audience, that's great! And congrats on the 50k subs! I understand the specific criticism of features, of the direction Niantic seems to be giving to the game, with good arguments to defend your pov, your suggestions, etc. What is really annoying to me is the repeated comments like "the game is boring", and variations on that theme. Of course this is your channel and you are obviously entitled to express your personal perception of the game and where it is going, but I feel like the negativity is imposed onto me as I am simply trying to enjoy the game, and doing my best to live around the problems (and reporting them too!). In a nutshell, some of your videos with that feel are simply bumming me out!

Honestly you were completely fine to me, also agreeing that Niantic is such a greedy company 1. back in 2023 with the Remote price nerf I don't think deserved to be doubled the price then they suppose to be, probably 140-150 coins per pass and 325-350 for a 3 pack should been a good update 2. now with 2024 started even worse: The Avatar Update, its been a whole month since release and was a terrible update, hope it doesn't end up like remote raid nerf where they keep it...

Thank you for doing this raw video. I don’t think you are ever to negative but telling it like it is 👏. I’m like you. I’m passionate about this game but lots of things Niantic does really annoys me. I’ve been playing since 2016 and never stopped and play all the time. But I find my efforts becoming a waste with Niantic pandering to newer players making easy to get Pokemon/shinies. I feel the events very lack lustre as they shinies that have been out for ages rather than new ones. This coming Ferroseed incense day an example. I and so many of my friends have all those shinies already. I wish Niantic would listen to us as I feel like you they don’t. They have their own agendas as the Avatar change showed using the excuse of inclusive but it was far from inclusive as they cancelled women and men didn’t get faces ! I wish they would not be so stingy, fix the bugs, bring out more new Pokemon & Shinies and especially listen to us.

You’re spot on. The game seriously needs community management from the developer to its players. That will solve a lot of issues. The game is fun, mostly nostalgic for us 30+ year olds. Community in my city/suburb is really nice. Niantic does the bare minimum (barely) for the game, and it shows. As long as their shareholders are getting dividends they’re happy. If they really wanted this game to grow financially, they’d invest into the community management side and make changes for the betterment of the player.

Honestly, the company is so disconnected from its fan base its pretty much a given that they are going to receive a ton of negative feedback. not in the slightest. niantic is a company that constantly makes negative changes to the game and disregard how we feel about such changes (and even go so far as to do things such as double down by making statements that fit their narrative but ignore the actual issue or ask for feedback that they do absolutely nothing with, or even give “justification” for said changes, which later actions prove said reasoning false), a company that keeps increasing prices and adding paywalls for things that should, or in many cases, used to be free, a company that states that gatekeeping things people need to fully enjoy the game is a good thing, that players being unable to access these important things is what they want, and a company that claims to want to go back to how things were pre pandemic but has stripped away so much of what was actually better about those times as a matter of fact, one aspect i feel you could be more critical of is region exclusive raids. these weren’t exactly a problem in 2019 because none of the lake trio truly excelled at what they did, as well as without remote raiding, they could be easily treated like other regionals. but now that they have added very polarising regional raid bosses in the ultra beasts (some going as far as being the best raid attacker of their type). niantic always, in the past, tried to make region exclusives not useful so to not give any part of the world an unfair advantage, but with these ultra beasts they make one part of the world able to get these pokemon with their free passes while the rest must remote, which given the damage they’ve done to remote raiding, is hypocritical. not to mention the fact that all the ones niantic gives north america are among the better ones (worth noting michael sterankas pvp inclination when it comes to buzzwole, the only regional ultra beast that is useful in pvp)

I don’t think it’s just you. I am a Rural player who started playing in 2016, dropped out in 2017, and picked it back up in ‘22. In ‘22, I found there were certainly fewer players than there had been in 2016… but the community that was there was stable. I saw the same players in gyms regularly, maybe 30 of us active in a town of 3000. On average, you could hold a gym for 3 days…. But since the avatar update, I have found that I have Pokémon in gyms lasting for weeks…. I have a very small sample size to draw my conclusions from, but I wonder how much of the community they’ve offended, turned off, disappointed….

Yes, you are being negative. HOWEVER, YOU are NOT being unfair to Niantic. (That is ridiculous! The players can’t insult Niantic because they don’t listen to us.) AND your comments warn us of pitfalls in new events, etc., so that we can make better choices as to if we even want to do the challenges, game play, or not, or find ways to make them work for us. I appreciate your advice!

What boot lickers are saying you’re being too negative? It’s completely justified because Niantic is extremely out of touch with the players and not to mention it’s a pretty buggy game.

Well, lets be realistic. it doesnt matter what subjective opinions people have, one thing that is true is facts. Niantic did make a NERF on remote raid passes - reduced from unlimited to max 5 per day, AND DOUBLED the price of the raid passes. This alone already killed online communities significantly, and im sure caused rural players to be no longer as active. Me personally i am lucky to live in big city and STILL players around me all have negative opinions about this. Amongst all other issues that Niantic doesnt fix, they just aren't listening to feedbacks to get many people excited, so.. good luck to the ones that are hardcore and play. Me myself definitely hasnt been spending much.

Eloquently put. My hope is that they do something to help the rural playerbase

LMAO!! Niantic lagging TF out of the game, giving us GAYASS Avatar updates, taking away remote raids, essentially giving the middle finger to the rural players, yeah. Fuck Niantic. Thank God I started spoofing.

No your just saying what most of us is thinking, the last month or so has been most dry it's ever been I only been going out for a about half hour a day, where during the pandemic it was a big outlet for me I'd be playing for hours of end but recently lost a lot of motivation, I am a shiny hunter but it comes to a point where can't have fun just hunting for a new shiny due to its lack of spawns rates and not only that recently they done like 3/4 events with no featured spawns its not getting people out and that's the whole purpose of this game get out and go they doing a fine job... 🤣 not 👎

Yeah you come off as overly negative, but it’s not what you’re saying, it’s HOW you’re saying it. Try to be more cynical and irreverent about it. You’ll be fine.

Criticizing a critic actually means the criticizer is ok with the status quo. You suggest a lot of improvements and point out things that are unwanted. Remember when the free daily box had good stuff in it? Most newer players don't. Remember when we got a remote pass for 7 day field research reward? New players don't. Remember when you could get 100 gym coins per day? People who dont want to hear you criticize Niantic are used to what Pokémon Go has become and do not understand how the quality of the game has degraded over time. And btw, I am 61, but not a grandmother so far.

To be fair, being one of those who commented once or twice about the negativity of certain videos, I feel this was not an issue recently. It seemed pretty balanced to me and your criticism sounded more constructive. Whether that was just my perception or not, I enjoy your content and also the game, even with those ugly avatars lol. But someone who says there is nothing wrong with the game is delusional at best. Some may disagree about things like the remote raid passes nerf or the new avatars, and we could have an interesting discussion around how events or releases should be programmed, but someone that likes lag and glitches scares me.

There are a lot of mistakes they could improve the nerf og remote raid. out of reach for and trade with friends outside lucky or normal trade. Not good rewards from pvp. And much more

You are not negative. I like that you are telling the truth. Some of these haters are just mad cause you are talking about the truth and criticizing is good. Some people can’t take constructive criticisms.

IMO your not being negative. Your just stating your opinion and using constructive criticism niantic. We all have different opinions and their is nothing wrong on voicing what you think can make the community and overall the game better for us all. Just keep it real💯🤙🏽

There are definitely things i do think you are too critical on and on the other hand I totally agree with some of the other things you criticize but that's just my opinion if that's how you feel then you have all right to speak your mind on it

I watch your videos because you are not afraid to speak the truth. Shit dev needs to be called out. I quit this game when I got my first spoof suspension. I was having fun and giving them tons of money. I'll never play again because I live in a rural area. Niantic is racist against rural players.

No you arent too negative, the company could be doing so much better. It is a game, yet no one really enjoys playing it anymore. Niantics faults in the game are things they could easily fix. They just choose not to.

I will buck the trend and say yes. I appreciate that you are willing to call out problems with how Niantic does things and that is why I subscribe to your channel but you appear to focus on the negatives a lot. For example, if there is an event with bad spawns but great bonuses, I would expect you to make a video talking about how the bad spawns kept the event from being epic rather than a video saying this is a decent event but I would have liked better spawns.

The answer is yes, stop playing if you don’t enjoy it anymore, it feels like you hate it a lot. It’s not good for you. Niantic is FAR from a perfect company but man, this can’t be good for your mental health. Take care dude.
